I would like to ask those of you that have both DMC4 and AC which one is worth it? But before you answer I have to add in that I have AC already which I bought for 37.00 back when it was on sale, I haven't opened it yet though so I can take it back.

DMC is an excellent series I know this and in order to get it I would have to take back AC (and yes I can only have one) now if you who have played both were to chose which would you pick?

I bought AC for $30 a few weeks back ^_^. I think Devil May Cry is a lot more fun though. I spent $80 on the CE, too... which didn't disappoint :)

i got AC for christmas and played through it all and beat it and its a great game but i got DMC4 today and i like it better so far and it goes along with the series great. The games are alot diffrent though as AC is more realistic type fighting well DMC4 is more intense action packed fighting. It kinda sucks u can only get one but i would go with the one thast has ur fighting prefrence.

Why not just download the DMC4 demo and try it out?

Why not just download the DMC4 demo and try it out?

DARKCHOAS

The demo (much like many others as of late) is not representative of anything beyond the general gameplay... that is the frenetic fighting... outside of that, the cake is much sweeter. But yeah, I recommend that he try the demo for DMC4, and then go buy DMC4. lol

Everyone is going to say DMC4, because it's brand new,
they are far too different to compare honestly,
if it was totally on "personal preference", I'm going with AC, because I'm not impressed with DMC4 to this point.

Well lets see, a game that is the definition of repeatitive, or a game that is really fun and has a STORY, im going to have to go with the latter, DMC4, hoping i can get it in the next 24 hours

I'm assuming you never actually played creed.
I've found that most people that call it insanely repeatitive "heard from someone" it was :(

right, no one is going to say DMC4 because they actually like the game more. nope, they're all saying it's better because it's brand new, and for no other reason

I never liked the DMC games, so i chose assassins creed, even though i have not started it yet, stuck on COD4, UNcharted. and besides that i just got my ps3 after dumping the 360.

There's a number of ways of kill people, you are literally open to do whatever you want when you want to, like you could go around hunting the eagle vision points before doing anything, or go assassinate guards, using the various methods at your deposal, go steal a horse and ride around, etc etc, I don't get how an open ended game is considered repeatitive, while GTA is considered "god like", I assume people didn't try using stealth in missions or something, and just went in, killed the guards using counters, not assassination, and didn't both searching for eagle points or anything along those lines, that's the only way I could see "insanely repeatitive".

Here comes andrew again, explaining why everyone is wrong. Assassins Creed is very repetitive. It's like a more refined Tenchu Z imo. (Rinse and repeat comes to mind) It's not bad, but it sure wears out the formula. DMC4's level design and boss fights are hightly repetitive. However, DMC has a key advantage: It has an ever expanding base of customizableskills that you can constantly interchange, 2 playable characters, and a jillion different difficulty modes. DMC isn't just being voted as the better of the two because it's new, imo, I think it's because it's genuinely better.

gta is repeatitive to, reason creed is, is because i didnt want to find all the flags, didnt want to try and find other ways to do everything, cuz every way i tried was simple, and boring, after doin it throughout the game and beating it, ill prolly never pick it up again, although ill prolly be dumb enough to pick the next one up, just for the fact they were smart and actually did something toward the end that intrigued me, and now i want to know wat happens, thats all they wanted, was money, and now they will make a butt load more for the sequel

Have you actually played the game this time Staryoshi, or are you still making arguments based on what you read? Because I'm honestly not getting into another argument with you if you haven't touched the game yet again, arguing about something you actually know about, like something you've...you know...tried yourself, is cool, but, claiming to be knowledgable about something your own eyes have never seen like last time, is useless.

Yes, I have. On a side note, people are damn free to decide where and how they come to their conclusions. If they don't want to like a game based on criteria that doesn't meet your satisfaction they are more than free to do so. By your logic reviews, gameplay footage, feedback from players, and othe valid sources of information are rendered obsolete. According to your logic, I can't dislike being punched in the face after watching a video of such just because no one has ever punched me.

I'm not saying that reviewers can't be wrong (I liked Red Steel, Ninty Nine Nights, and other poorly recieved games), but it's not an invalid option to base your purchasing decisions on the criteria listed above. The whole point of videos, reviews, previews, etc, is to give you an idea of what a game is like. Gameplay footage is the second best experience next to gameplay.

actually, you're quite limited to the number of ways you can do things. you climb all the eagle towers pretty much the same way over and over. you do the investigations the same way over and over. save the citizens the same way over and over (and by the way, they are all thieves and they shall lose their hand for that!!). you could change the way you kill your targets, but again you're quite limited and most of the time you're exposed and pretty much forced to just kill everyone. you become so insanely overpowered that halfway through the game you pretty much forget there are even hiding spots since you can kill off any number of guards you want easily. it's a matter of taste really, but you'll find that most people will see this as being repetitive.

Realistically,
the only thing you can trust in regards to a game is your own feeling on it,
reviewers aren't you, and people giving feedback, especially on an internet forum,
can be literally full of crap. Trying something yourself is essential to the process.
I could sit here, and lobby people to say Vampire Rain is the greatest game of all
time, and someone would listen, since people are saying it.
Gaming is far too individual of an experience to put 100% faith behind a single
reviewer's opinion.

So Andrew, you're saying you didn't find AC repetitve at all? I liked it, but after a while it did feel like I was doing the same thing over and over again, just with different people. Even my cousin who watched me play asked if I would play something else because he was getting bored of watching the same thing happen over and over again.

Oh, I found it repeatitive, I don't disagree with reviews that say it's "a little repeatitive", what I disagree with, is the people who go" AC IZ THA DEFINITION OV REPEATITIVZ! NUTHIN N THIZ GAM IZNT REPEATITIVE!"
It's a little repeatitive, not "insanely" repeative, or "the most repeatitive game of all time" or "the definition of repeatitive", but, all games are a little repeatitive.

well i can honestly say its the most repeatitive game ive played since the atari, nes, sega days, but those games were meant to be repeatitive, they couldnt really do much else in them, but this is 2008, they should be able to do something where i dont feel like i might pass out and snore like a little baby while playing it, and its in that reference that i say its the definition of repeativness

I'll agree with you there. I dunno why, but I didn't notice the repitition until the 5th assassination. After that, I got kind of bored and just started killing random people.

Dude i really like AC but the game stinks of repeatition. You do the same thing the entire game. Its repeatitive, no denying. And i also dislike GTA but to compare the 'open endned' factor of AC is just silly. GTA contains much more varied missions. And DMC is a much better game then AC, Ubisoft vs Capcom..... no compatition.

I've only plaed the demo of DMC4 so shouldn't really comment on it, got it pro-ordered and should arrive tomorrow. What I got from the demo was that it has very fast paced action with graphics which is pretty good.

AC on the hand is a very repetitive game, but if played the right way it can be very enjoyable. Hasn't got a difficulty setting and the fighting is soo easy its laughable. Since its meant to be a stealth game, I dont really mind. Game can be really annoying at times, but the ending is amazing.

Very obvious that these games cannot be compared with each other, but I guess thats not what you asked. So to get to point, 1st question you asked was which game is worth it. The price for AC is worth it, I presume you mean $37 and not £37 right, not really sure if AC is worth the full price. 2nd question is which one would you pick, I think I would have to go with DMC4, since I normally like japanese anime style game and storylines.

Why not keep AC and buy DMC4 I'm sure you enjoy them both.

Both games do offer a little bit of different approach. You should not skip neither of them, since you mentioned you are familiar with previous DMC series depending if you like them or not you will receive - exactly the same, more of DMC :)

Assassin's Creed of course can be played as action style but in that aspect it doesn't touch DMC gameplay, AC is more of a stealth/silent approach to the your targets, you're assassin, not a huge wielding two-handed sword half demon. Suspense and approach of target elimination favors more of a "careful" approach with Assassins Creed.

It's a different gameplay, and yes it does get little repetitive, but it you can look over it - it's a great game.

I'm about 5 missions into DMC-4 and since I enjoyed previous titles = I got exactly what I wanted, more kick a** blood boiling action.

In Assassins Creed I absolutely loved walking around the huge city populated with many people and looking for the best approach to take out target missions.

You can check both of my Preview so far of DMC-4 and my review of Assassins Creed on my blog if you desire so.

I'd not skip either game, but because I'm an action/beat-them-up junkie DMC is one of my favorites. :)

I'm like two hours into dmc4 and it's already surpassed ac imo...I just find it funny that Van Bored said dmc4 was repetitive and in the same token he credited ac for how revolutionary it was...go figure :?

I respect Kevin's reviews but I need to finish the game first before I can agree with him on backtracking receptiveness as of yet.

I do know Gamespot is quite understaffed at the moment and they do try their best to finish all games for proper review in least amount of time. :)

Well lets see, a game that is the definition of repeatitive

Andrew_Xavier

I'm assuming you never actually played creed.
I've found that most people that call it insanely repeatitive "heard from someone" it was :(

naw man, just admit it, its repetitive lol, still fun, but its no DMC, maybe the second and third will be better.

I'd pick DMC 4 personnally... AC's only good for the storyline.

You gave Assassin's Creed a 9.0, and DMC4 an 8.5, obviously, based on your own reviews, you prefer AC.

I own both and Assassin's Creed is the better game. DMC4 is sooo last gen in terms of level design and the camera. Plus you have to beat the same bosses time and time again, and you also have to run across the same environments. It's just as repetitive as Assassin's Creed, but Assassin's Creed actually has current gen design, while DMC4 has last gen design.

Assassin's Creed isn't that great. DMC4 is, as far as I can tell, very underrated.
