I am in a dilemma of what I should buy next. PC or PS3? So i thought that I should post a topic here so I can see different opinions on the PS3. I had a PS when I was a kid, and I loved it, but I have become more of a PC gamer over the years, and I got used to it. But my single-core PC is going old, so I can't decide for PS3 or a new PC. XBOX is out of the question, I want a serious gaming console, not some console that needs feeds for MP, and have little kids on their network. Plus, I like the PS3 exclusives, like Little Big Planet, inFAMOUS, Killzone, Uncharted, and the upcoming Dust 514. So, what are your opinions on the PS3. Is it worth it to buy a PS3, or collect more money and buy a decent PC???

P.S. Also, for former PC gamers that turned towards the PS3, is it hard to get used to the controller???

If it's the exclusives you want, then the PS3 is the console. The PC has a larger gaming library (with the best version of multiplatform games) but it depends on how much money and time you are willing to spend. The PS3 controller is a cinch to get used to. It shouldn't be a problem at all. I personally think a gaming PC + PS3 combo is better than owning just one of either. But if your budget is low, then it's best you get a PS3. Get the following games : Uncharted : Drake's Fortune Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves Uncharted 3 : Drake's Fortune Killzone 2 Killzone 3 Heavy Rain God of War 3 Jak and Daxter HD Collection ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Zone of the Enders HD Collection Sly HD Collection Ratchet and Clank Future : Tools of Destruction Ratchet and Clank Future : Quest for Booty Ratchet and Clank Future : A Crack in Time Heavenly Sword Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots Journey Demon's Souls inFamous inFamous 2 inFamous 2 : Festival of Blood Resistance : Fall of Man Resistance 2 Resistance 3 Little Big Planet Little Big Planet 2 Ninja Gaiden Sigma Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Valkyria Chronicles Yakuza 3 EDIT : Updated the list. Sorry about the last time. The current got cut :\

If you get a PS3, you get to be one of "those" guys on the Internet. Don't know what it is about the platform but Sony fans run rampant on the webs it seems.

The advantages are fairly simple but go a long way:

- Blu-ray player (I mean, duh!)

- Free online play (while the 360 may have a better "community" setup, PSN still has a fairly good one, so in my book it beats paying for a monthly membership)

- Exclusives, exclusives, exclusives! Not only are there more of them, but for the most part, they are amazing and warrant the console purchase on their own.

- Looks. It just looks better

- Controller. It kills the Xbox controller by a milestone, just in comfort alone.

I have PC + PS3 as well. It is the most optimal combo. I also use my PS3 for fighting games, if you're into that console centric genre.

He's comparing it with a PC though so exclusives is the only one of those that has any relevance. I really don't see why you'd shift from PC to PS3, not that the PS3 isn't a great console, but PC is just a whole lot more. If you already had a good PC though PS3 is well worth it as a secondary platform, I find the exclusive games differ more from the PC whilst the 360 has a lot more stuff like Halo and Left 4 Dead where you can already play it, or similar games, on PC.

this will not be easy for you to chose i just bough my self a new PC wath you have here is :

ps3 : endless exclusive games list most of them are awesome

PC : ( if u buy one as powerful as mine ) you will get a performence 3x time better than what the ps3 + xbox can do in terms of smoothness and graphics , the PC also have its own exclusive AAA games and GENREs ! you wont find MMOs and BIG RTS games on consoles

if you have the money i would suggest trying buying PC + PS3 is way cheep now , but if you cant and since you are a pc game for a while now buy PC coz u will be missing the mouse and keyboard

PS3 games worth getting that you can't get for PC:

Metal Gear Solid 4

Tales of Graces f

White Knight Chronicles 2 (It includes all of WKC 1, so don't bother buying the first one.)

LittleBigPlanet 2

MLB the Show (Best baseball sim on the market. 2k can't compete! lol)

Star Ocean 4

Sonic Unleashed

Catherine

Soul Calibur V

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

I love PC gaming too, but there are too many console exclusives I like more than PC exclusives.

Yeah, that's also a reason why I want to get a console, the exclusives like those (especially Catherine...), and I don't care much about the graphics, and other "cosmetic" factors, I just want to be able to play the game. I have played so many games on my Sempron processor, on 5-10 FPS, and i'm so sick of it, that I don't care about the graphics, I just want to be able to play the game.

Think about it this way, with things I heard about the Next Gen consoles coming out, ( Ps4, the new Xbox) i'd say get a PC. Considering that's what everyone should have anyway. ._.

Im a multiplatform gamer but I think us be better off with a pc. It will give u the best of the multiplatformers available as well as some great pc exclusives, a huge library of games and the best graphics. It's also seems its,a system ur already we'd to.

There's no doubt that PC can do alot more. Just depends on how much you want to spend. PS3 can be had for $249 MSRP, and there are even some $50 gift card offers floating around (so you could use that gift card to throw in a few cheap games that have been out awhile, such as some of those on your list). At that price it seems to be a no brainer to just go ahead and get it. Now if you get up to $500-600 and can build your own PC, there is no doubt that multiplats will play significantly better and you get some more flexibility. And if you REALLY build a high end rig, then you are basically ready for next gen already. However if you go all the way (like with a GTX 680), you're pushing $1000-1500 easily. I'm not willing to do that personally, but I've often thought about building a HTPC in the $500-600 range. However for now my PS3 is keeping me extremely busy with gaming, so i'm not exactly in a hurry (and hell at this point before blowing $600+ on a PC, I might as well see what the PS4 can do, worst case is if I keep waiting I will just have better PC components fall into my price range, but in the meantime my PS3 is going strong).

PS3 has better games, is built for gaming, and plays split-screen games 4 player and has some games like wrestling games that play 6 players. It has a good online store to buy from as well that PC doesn't have.

A PS3 is $249. What is a PC going to cost you? Much more. If you're buying it for gaming then PS3 is your better value for your money.

Theoretically PC but let's talk consumer strategy.

PS4 should be coming out late 2013/2014.

So you could get a PS3 now for cheap, plunder the backlog of the last 5 years.

Meanwhile for the next 2 years save up $1000 and play your PS3.

PS4 comes out, the library slows to a trickle.

Rebuild your PC and start working the Steam sales, play WoW, Diablo, whatever.

Meanwhile PS4 will be building library and waiting for a price cut.

Every few years switch out and play the backlog, wait for prices to drop, rinse repeat.

Now is the best time to get a PS3.

Also might want to get a PS+ subscription right now.

It's $17 and you get 12 games to play for the next 3 months, as well as deep discounts, themes, avatars, and so forth.

It's a good way to build up your PS3 library in the beginning.

Wait on the PC till the PS4 comes out,.

Not really. You'll get used to them pretty quickly. In the list that I gave, I only mentioned PlayStation exclusives. I did not include other multiplatform games. If you want, I can give you a list of multiplatform games too.

What is this, System Wars? Anyways, the PC has the largest library of games, with the most AAA titles (ancients, classics, slightly old, new), the most control options (controller or mouse+kb), vastly better graphics (if you spend at least $500 on your rig), daily sales, mods, etc. I own every console (this gen), and if you take your gaming seriously, you owe it to yourself to get a modest PC setup.

Ok, so I readyour comments, and it looks like that the PC+PS3 combo is good, but now I have a techical question. Is Athlon II X3 445 good for the games nowadays, or do I need something stronger? I don't plan on playing the games on HIGH settings.

Most people who know me on this boards know I'm primary PC and PlayStation gamer, I started with PC and PS1 so I can give you little experience knowledge answering the question.

Definitely pick up the PS3 - it will complement your PC very well as there are games you can't purchase on it for the PC alone, it also broadens your environment of fantastic, unique games. You will spend some time getting use to controller with FPS games. It took me good month to get better with it, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was my first FPS on PS3 and it was frustrating at first but you will enjoy the comfort. Over time, it will become second nature.

You said you wanted to try Catherine, it's unique and very fun game. Kind folks already gave you superb examples of other games to try so I won't list them again. All great choices, I definitely recommend Heavy Rain, Ico & Shadow of Colossus HD, Little Big Planet and so forth.

To answer your last question -The Core i3 will be much better and OC much more. If you can, sweet spot for money and great performance would be Core i5. ;)

well i was a PC gamer for about 6 years, a few years ago i switched back to consoles because i could juust no longer justfy the cost of upgardeing ect on the pc. how ever i will say while i was a PC gamer i loved it. if i had a larger amount of cash to blow on hardwear id def get back in to even though i dont like how every thing has shifted so far to digital games. the retail for pc has dried up in my area, walmart, gamestop ect hardly carry any pc games any more when used to they would have tons. but IMHO ps3 is the better bang for the buck, but both offer great exp that are uniqe to the platform. but like i said i just got sick of droping nearly as much for just a video card as a whole console cost. throw in mother board and cpu upgrades, ram ect ect it can get pretty dang pricy.

If the most recent console you've played was the PS, you have missed out on A LOT. You need Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The first one if you've never played it. There is a long list of games you've missed out on, but play that one for sure. One of my favorites.

I'd go for a PS3, it's got some pretty awesome exclusives, Blu-ray, free online play (why pay through the nose for a months membership on the xbox?), PS+ which is discounted at the minute, the boomerang controller is very comfortable and you can cross-save with the vita :D

The absolute best platform to own at all times is a PC.

But I don't have one and am content with my PS3, 360, Wii combo along with handhelds.

If you have the money, go for the PC. It's better in the long run.

Playing games on PS3 in my opinion is so much better than a PC. I could only play city-builders on a PC and could never get used to playing a shooter of some kind without a proper controller. PS3 also happens to have an array of fantastic exclusives (offers the best imo), and is overall the best console out (imo).

The system has some good exclusives (most people here overrate them anyway) but still good. Blu-ray (off-t, you're able to buy blu-ray in pc ofc. ^^).

But the network is very slow and prety much laggy multiplayer compared to pc.

I'm not allowed to say this on this forum, but if you're able to get a new gaming pc, then get a new one. Those console only games and exclusives are not worth it compared to what pc has.

So... the advantages short said:

-Blu ray (also possible in pc)
-Some exclusives, console only games (just an opinion maybe you would like them very much or maybe not)
-You can play old ps1 games on it,legal. (ps2 games not bc)
-Controller (not realy advantage against the pc)

Thats it.

I have both, and honestly it depends on your local multiplayer. Local Multiplayer has kinda been lame in these consoles, but if your going to have friends over a lot then you should totally get a ps3. Not to mention there still are a fair amount of multiplayer games. Call of duty is fun with 4 players, lucha libre is an amazing wrestling game, twisted metal recently came out (One of the best party games). Mortal kombat. Theirs lots of fun you can have multiplayer. But if your not gonna have friends over, the computer wins by far

It has better graphics, it can be easily and legally modded, it is a mouse (which is easier to shoot on) and just runs better.

Also, you can play ps2 games on a ps3 depending on what generation you get. I dont know the generations, but i've had mine since '06.
