I apologize if this is a common topic.

I am interrested in getting some true 5.1 channels surround sound system for my PS3 (and HDTV). I looked around, and found the Logitech X-540 to be a good choice. However, that device does not have optical port, meaning that it emulates 5.1 sound from stereo.

I wonder if any of you guys have a good setup that you would recommend. I really don't want to spend more than 200$ on this though.

Thanks for the help :D

You wont get much for $200 but I've heard the Logitech Z5500 should be decent for what you give for it.

Just get the Z-5500. Nothing comes close for both good music and movie/gaming.

I have the sony HTS-s370. Take a look on the sony site. I use it for my Blu ray movies and games. Modern warfare 2 online is awesome and I can hear footsteps easily. I paid 350 for it and it is one of the best home theaters in a box you can get. You won't find anything good around 200.

There is no such thing as cheap optical surround sound. This is another example of one of the 'hidden' expenses of console gaming. You could try searching online for a Dolby Digital decoder and combine it with a set of analogue surround sound speakers but it would still cost a considerable amount.

Uhm, you can try to get this Insignia surround sound system at Best Buy, ( I know it sounds stupid but hear me out). I work there, in home theater listen to it all the time, sounds good, and it's made by Onkyo, full HDMI 1.4 and optical support, and it decodes DTS-HD. Think it's 400. Its also this new Sony system that's 350, slimmer speakers, not bad sub woofer either. But I doubt you'll find anything worth having for 200 though, if that was your asking price. I say try to save up if you can.

The Logitech Z-5500 system is by far the best choice if he's willing to fork out the cash for it. It beats many more expensive systems on the market and has remained one of the highest rated surround systems since its release years ago.
