I used to be afraid of my own voice. Not that I didn't pronounce things right, just that I was just afraid of what I sounded like. So I was pretty quite when I was small.
Now I'm the most obnoxious (spelling?) people with friends. Just keep talking and you'll gain your confidence :)

I was about the same. I was too nervous to talk because of how I thought I might sound over the mic. In my case, I used a mic for Vent while playing WoW. I had a part where I had to tank, so I pretty didn't have a choice but to chat over Vent for the fight to go well at all. After awhile, I built up enough confidence to chat with people.
Just do it. It'll be worst at first, but it'll get easier the more you talk. I wouldn't worry about your accent or anything. In my old guild, we had one person from Sweden, a guy from Scotland, and a couple French Canadians. The most I've seen happen so far is just a conversation get started up about where the speaker is from. Well, and one girl I played with drooled over every guy with an accent. :P
