So the game Afrika has been pretty elusive and now its finally been released in Japan. It's pretty much a snap and shoot Safari like most people speculated. you can drive around or walk on foot. You can't kill anything, but you can be killed, and there are thousands of true-to-life animal interactions to witness thanks to National Geographic, which had alot to do with the game.

To me, this sounds great. I could watch shows like PLANETEARTH and BLUE PLANET for hours, and the prospect of traversing an accurately depicted virtual Africa sounds great. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to be an animal, or go kill stuff, but that would take away from the details invested in the environments. Maybe save that for part 2.

I Just want to know what most of you guys think of a game like this and would you buy it if they ever ported it over to other countries?

I thought it was coming to other countries. Is it a Japan exclusive?

It was announced globally but I believe it's a Japan exclusive. How often do you see this style of game in the United States? Never. I'm hoping it catches on, especially since National Geographic had such a large role in the game.

That's all I meant by port. It's already a PS3 exlusive, all they would have to do would be localize the game for each region. Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult really.

I'm really interested in this game, but unlike the OT, I have zero interest in being an animal and even less in killing animals, some of which are endangered. It sounds like a nice experience though with a little survival mixed in. As long as it isn't too expensive I'd buy it.

Really? i think this would be a really cool feature to add in later installations. Imagine being a meerkat and traveling within an extensive burrow, digging for grubs, and evading predators. Or being a bird and flying over a majestic landscape while looking for prey.

I think it would be a cool feature and add another perspective. It would be ALOT of work to implement though. At least now they have a solid foundation to work with. The main thing I want to do is observe anyway. The animations on the animals are amazing if you've seen any of the videos.

no even though i want the game so my kids and i can have fun and finally a game that is educational for the kids instead of killing stuff.

but if you can't read this game in japaneese then there is now way of playing it considering it rely on reading.

sony should put up a poll and see if enough votes to bring it to other contries

i thought about that to like they can make an mmo and you level up the food chain your with your pack and have to survive while doing missions that go with your animal sch as a zebra make it to water hole without getting killed by higher leveled lion or something. but this idea culd be really boring though

I just got the game and he is absolutely stunning. most of the game is in Japanese but its not that hard to understand the concept and what do you need to do (at least in the beginning).

it looks beautiful. it really does.

BTW with the Afrika delivery i also got the playstation eye. Mesmrize is some f#%& trippy thing. really makes you wanna have a smoke.

Yeah, it is. But then again, that didn't stop me from dropping $80 on PLANET EARTH. I can imagine myself spending more time playing this game then it took to watch that entire series. At least I like to convince myself that's the case to justify the purchase, lol.

Maybe if a large chunk of the proceeds went to animal conservation efforts I could justify spending that much.
