Newer consoles like the PS5 Pro, Switch, and Xbox Series X are easily the best consoles. Not because they are the newest, but rather yet because they are really starting to encompass all the games from past generations as well. It's only a matter of time before consoles add PC launchers or make it a lot easier to play PC games in some way, shape, or form, and then THAT will be my new favorite console.
PS3. We had a realatively healthy AAA industry (though you could see signs things were starting to strain) and online allowed the indie scene to take off. But this was also Sony's best generation of first-party output. Yes, they began moving towards big, cinematic stuff, but still gave us gameplay focused things like Motorstorm, Sly 4, Warhawk, Twisted Metal (hot take, the best one), The Puppeteer, Modnation Racers, and Little Big Planet. And really, even games like GoW and Uncharted weren't so bogged down with cutscenes just yet. Huge variety there. Something for everyone.
I think in the long run. PS3 was the best console. Like their is the ylod but beyond that I could watch blueray, buy video games, buy movies, connect online, play ps1 or 2 games(2 sometimes) and so much more! Amazing graphics too. No microtransactions.
PS3 was so good it had Uncharted 2 and The Last of us on it which people glaze for some reason.
For its time the PS2 was the best. Sony started building their first party and they had so many third party exclusives that if you were a gamer the system was a must have. Add to the fact it had full backwards compatibility with the PS1 and we really didn't know how good we had it.
The PS5 will get shit on but it is a great console. The problem is it's just kinda redundant and if you own a gaming PC you don't really need one. You may even pick an XSX if you like GP and have no interest in Japanese games. Sony's first party has fallen so bad that it's no longer a selling point for the platform.
PS2 hands down. To this day the console has the most games that where only available on PS2. At the time it was backwards compatible, played DVDs, and had an onslaught of super unique and creative games. I still have all my rare PS2 games because it's the only way to play them unless they are emulated.
