I really don't see that happening. After the wave crested six or eight months ago, I thought that should be obvious. Devs are treating it like any other feature, and for the games where it might make sense, they've made it available, But the biggest reason why I think you don't see more of it, is that most devs realize they need to make a really good GAME, first. That's the biggest hump to get over right now. So adding stereoscopic visuals has to actually bring something TO the gameplay, or they'll be called out on the carpet for relying on a gimmick, which is a sure and fast way into the dumper...
3D hasn't been used to radically alter the way we play games, the same way motion gaming didn't replace a gamepad, and Segue riding didn't alter human locomotion... These things are neat little gags, but unless it brings something of a noticeable enhancing nature to gaming (and it's widely available & affordable with other video programming so that you're not spending $1000s of dollars on a one-use display), it's just not going to stick.
I like the splitting of screens so that 3 players can use the entire display when "split-screening", but outside that, I haven't seen anything which makes me want the tech. And definitely not for prolonged gaming sessions, that would make me sick...

Sure, why not? One more extra feature, no matter how useless it is, is still one more extra feature.meetroid8thats what im saying, why not have the option??? i would play all the games in 3D, and i actually buy 3D games over non 3D games if faced with the choice between 2 games
Why? 3D sucks, it's the same crap from the 80s.Fightingfanno, this is streostropic 3D, its not the same at all. honestly guys, its way more immersive......i mean, once 3D tv's, which are selling everywhere, become the standard, and games make amazing use of this 3D effect, you will all wish you wrote the devs sooner...
I have two 3D TV's but I am yet to buy glasses. Sitting in front of the TV for hours on end wearing glasses is not my idea of fun. It might be ok for the duration of a movie but there is no way I am playing through a game from start to finish wearing glasses.
only people that talk smack about 3D tv's are the ones that don't have them. And if you say you have one and still think it's a gimmik then you must post spoon pics with your 3Dtv or you don't have one.

Shhhhh! Keep your voice down! You're likely to get flamed for this! Oh, wait, hang on a minute... too late.
Honestly I agree with you for the most part. The people who say it's a gimmick are wrong, but they are entitled to their opinion ;)
Seriously though, so far there are around 100 games for the PS3 that support steroscopic 3D and some of them are amazing (Uncharted 3, MotorStorm Apocalypse, de Blob 2, Avatar, Gran Turismo 5, God of War HD games, SOTC, Wipeout HD, SSHD, ...). In almost all cases 3D adds to the game (hell, even Happy Feet 2 is much better, really) but there are a couple that are down right bad in 3D (Sonic Generations, Dungeon Defenders, Tetris and Crysis 2 come to mind).
I don't think that *every* game should get a 3D option, but for those where it makes sense and is technically feasible it should be an option. I'd guess that the top third of allHDTV's selling at the moment support 3D. Not everyone is going to buy one (and 3D doesn't work well for everyone) but a lot of people sure are. With it reportedly costing around 2% of dev budget to add stereoscopic 3D support to a game3D gamerssure appreciate the effort.

why bother when a low percentage of users will utilize the feature and it requires extra processing power that could be better spent in other areas of the game.

Atm I only want a 3D tv for Silent Hill Downpour. Should up the Horror even more that way.only people that talk smack about 3D tv's are the ones that don't have them. And if you say you have one and still think it's a gimmik then you must post spoon pics with your 3Dtv or you don't have one.

Ugh. More "3D isn't needed; it's a gimmick" comments. Isn't HD a gimmick? What about surround sound? None of those make the game, or alter the actual gameplay, but they sure as hell add to it. 3D is no different. When playing a well done 3D game, the extra depth added to the game really helps pull you into the world. It seems like a lot of people have either never seen a good example of what 3D can do, or they think it's just an attempt to stick something out of the screen at your face. Not true.
Today's 3D is like a window into the TV. We see depth and distance in the game world like our eyes do in the real world. Without 3D, there's no sense of space or distance because the TV screen is flat; our eyes don't see the real world as flat, so why should our game worlds be flat? 3D allows us to see the game world as our eyes do the real world, and, when done right, it's a remarkable thing. Again, it doesn't make the game, but, like HD and surround sound --also "gimmicks"-- it really helps immerse you into the game world.
Before I bought my 3D plasma last year, I really didn't think much of the possibilities that 3D offered. I thought "why do I need something poking out at me?" Little did I know that objects poking out isn't the point, like it was during the last big 3D phase. Then, after scoring a fantastic deal on a 3D plasma, I bought it, a few 3D movies and 3D games, and I totally understand its intended purpose and uses now. What's exciting is that it's only going to get better with time and experience.
I understand not everybody has seen great examples of it, and that not everyone's eyes can see the difference, but 3D is more than a gimmick; it's another step in accomplishing what developers want and that's drawing us into their world even more. With HD, surround sound and now 3D, we can really be immersed. As a game and movie lover, I've always wanted to be as immersed as possible in the world, and that is more possible today than ever. I'm quite excited for that.

So he's a troll for liking and supporting 3D? Where do you get that from? More importantly, why bother posting that? Either contribute to the topic at hand, or perhaps don't comment at all?
Why? 3D sucks, it's the same crap from the 80s.Fightingfan
You couldn't be more incorrect, Fightingfan. This is a comment made out of ignorance. 3D today is nothing, absolutely nothing like 3D from the 80's. That can't even be disputed; it's pure fact. Perhaps brush up on 3D, as well as experience it, before saying something like that because, again, it's factually incorrect.

There's certainly some merit to this, but it's not fair to dismiss all 3D dislikers as those who don't have 3D TV's. To be fair, some people literally can't see (as in their eyes can't see the difference) what it brings, and some of them just don't care for it; there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody has to like 3D. However, your point (people not having 3D TV's) is true in many instances.
Bullcrap. 3D is a gimmick, and I really dislike you. You write to them. Good luck with that.ShadowsDemon
You dislike somebody because they like and support 3D. What is wrong with you? Yet another rude comment that brings nothing of substance to the conversation, so why bother?

Downpour is a great game in 3D, H_M. The depth to the game is great and it really helps place you into the world. I very much recommend Downpour in 3D.

Yeh, I don't mind 3D, a friend keeps telling me of small 3D tvs for small rooms etc at good prices but I'm holding back until September/October. Seriously, for some games, 3D is brilliant, I heard Assassins Creed Revelations (I think it's this one) looks perfect in 3D, so does Uncharted 3.Please write to your local devs to support this.

Okay I like 3D games but it is not right for all games. It takes up power so that means that there is power aviable for other aspects of the game.
Next Gen 2016 (make a patetion) would be a better time as more TVs will have 3D and processing power will be up to speed.
Though i didn't try 3d games i dont see why some people against it! its just extra features, and if i have to choose between a same tittle, a game /w 3d or w/out, i go w/3d of course, as i remember theres 2 type of batman aa the other type is 3d support, same goes for tv i go w/ 3d rather than w/out 3d.. Dont hate it if you dont have it, and if have it dont use it if you dont like it. simple as that
i would play all the games in 3D, and i actually buy 3D games over non 3D games if faced with the choice between 2 gamesPinnacleGamingPI'm the same. All other considerations aside, I will play the game with 3d over the flat game. Especially on my 3ds.
I do not like 3D at all.unrealtronin that case you should walk around with one eye closed all the time.
Singlehandedly the best comeback I have ever seen in regards to gaming :P:|
And each game released henceforth must also be a FPS :P
