Am I the only one who hates the L2, R2 buttons and the mushroom sticks?

I've been playing Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 since launch and I never realize how stupid the L2 and R2 buttons really are. I had the chance to play the exact same game on my friend's 360 and the control is just so much better. the 360 trigger works better for firing, and the top shoulder button didn't have any delay when you want to use equipments and even the analog sticks fit your thumbs better than the mushroom design on the Dual Shock 3. When i got home I tried to configure the R2 trigger for firing and it sucks, huge delay and doesn't work well at all.

No wonder there's a madcatz made a controller just for this game, I think I have enough reason to buy it already.

Well you have a few options

  1. Buy a pair of these. Real Triggers
  2. Buy a 360
  3. Take the risk with the madcatz controller. I heard that they had terrible products though.

I personally love the L2 and R2 buttons, and even more so with the real trigger things on. You should grab a pair of those, they sell them at gamestop (or they did anyways). They only cost a couple bucks. The sticks definitely could benefit from a concave design though, and possibly more grip.

Yeah, I love my PS3 and all, but I never did like the controller. I like the fact its smaller than the 360 controllers but I had the mushroom stick tops and I find their location to be a pain as they force your thumbs to the side as opposed to a more natural virtical position. I find the controller fine for most action adventure games but really awkward for shooters. I did go out and get the Madcatz MW2 controller and I can say it is a pretty decent one at that. It feels durable, the L2 and R2 buttons have way more spring to them and the rubber side gripping is a bonus. Only faults with it are the L1 and R1 buttons have a flimsy feel to them and they are very easy to decompress. This means many times I went to to aim down my sights only to jump back to the crosshairs because my finger lifted just a slight bit. This became so annoying that I switched my control scheme to tactical, which I found works alot better. The other thingI dont like is that they still chose the mushroom tops for the control sticks which have a slicker feel than the offical controllers and become very slippery once your thumbs get moist. I have MW2 for both my PS3 and 360 but I prefer to play the 360 version because I like the controller better and more people have mics.

Meh, I don't mind them. The only time I have a problem the dualshock 3 triggers is when I sit the controller down while watching a movie... it fast fowards.

I thought the way they made the R2 and L2 buttons "dip" for the PS3 was a poor choice for Sony. It was better on the PS2, in my opinion.

well the L2 & R2 triggers are no problem for me, but you are right about the analog sticks.

pretty much what ravenSquad said as far as the concave and had better grip..then they would be perfect.

I use the R1 and L1 buttines in FPS games formy PS3, seems alot faster then the 360 triggers imo. And i preer the ps3 sticks, the staggered 360 sticks just feel odd.

i find the ps3 controller uncomfortable as well (well not the whole controller, just the triggers and analog sticks, i actually like the feel of the controller) which is why i buy all my multiplat games on 360, i guess its just cuz im not used to it as i didnt have a ps2

I have no problems with L2 R2 triggers. I actually like'em especially when shooting. ''Mushroom'' sticks are very ergonomic. Mythumbs always feel relaxed and comfortable on those ''mushrooms''.

I know people have their own views on things. BUT anyone that thinks the toggles are fine is kidding themselves. Sony toggles have always been their downfall. They are far too sensitive and the "mushroom" tops are horrible after just a few minutes of playing. My thumbs have always slid off them.

People sticking up for a developers controllers knowing they have faults is like me sticking up for the DUKE , the original Xbox controller. I always "loved" it and swore it was just fine and I still love it..BUT truth be told I got the S-controller as soon as it came out and never looked back.

Xbox controllers are better as far as the toggles go shape and sensitivity wise...

No, you are not the only one that hates the L2/R2 triggers. Yes, I know the RealTriggers exist, and have them on my DS3 controllers. But even with this, I hate the fact that I had to spend extra money to make the stock controller tolerable to use. I know I had been futzing around trying to find an acceptable substitute, but almost all of them have the same nature of problems when they do fix the issue with the blasted triggers... Only now does it seem that rocketfish (best buy brand) have a third-party controller that uses bluetooth like the Sony controller (so it can turn on the system proper), have proper triggers and integrated turbo functionality. If I didn't have two DS3's already, I'd have given it a try already.

same here, and i dont mind the triggers at all, matter fact when i play fps games, and it gives me the option ( like MW2) i use the L2 to zoom and R2 to shoot) and i play alot better with it that way, guess it depends on the gamer/player.............oh and someone posted about puttin the controller down and it fast forwards, well i dont know how hard u slam the controller down, but i honestly never had that problem, if u want u can always turn off the controller since theres no reason to have it on, unless u want to pause it and that takes wat 5 sec to turn it back on and do so?

i never use L2/R2 as actual triggers, as i find positioning my fingers over that area of the controller for repetitive use (i.e. shooting) uncomfortable; regardless of whether it's a DS3 or any other controller. As for the analog stick(s), can't say i had any issues.

I really cant understand how you manage to slide your thumbs off the sticks.Seriously?.The material theyre made out of provides the grip, unless youre pushing on them too hard its really hard to slide off them o.o

the only thing i dont like about the ds3 is the analog sticks there should be a crater in them like the 360"s but u can take the rubbers off and go buy new rubbers with craters in them cause the shroom stixs are just to slippery

Hey dont get me wrong...THE 360 toggles need to be angled instead of straight..My thumbs dont rest on toggles straight up and down. THey are always at an angle and end up hurting. So no controller is perfect. N64/Gamecube controllers IM TALKING TO YOU BOTH ALSO!!..

I'm usually good with L1 and R1 as aim and shoot. I have issues with L1 though because like someone else mentioned it tends to ease up and go back to not using the crosshairs. R1 is perfect though.

Yes yes yes... A mix between 360 and PS3 remote would be great. So 360 design but in the PS3 dimensions (size) with an internal battery. I hate the 360's bulk and battery pack placment and i hate PS3 thumb sticks placement, my thumbs bump into each other while playing.

I've always hated the sticks, I never had as much of a problem with the tiggers but I haven't played that many shooters on the Playstation systems, I don't like them but I thought it might just be because I'm not used to them.

The dip on the 360 analog sticks hurt my thumbs. I found it imposible to aim in L4D2. A few years back i did not have this problem at all. The only thing i like better about the 360 controller is the size, fits perfectly in my hands. Everthing about the DS3 is awesome. ( bar size ) I wish there was some adapter that would allow me to use my DS3 on 360.

I like the sticks on the PS3 more than the 360, don't ask me why, but the precision and control and accuracy I have on PS3 is better than what I have on the 360, as for the L2 and R2 they are better than the buttons on the dualshock 2 but still worse than the 360.

Each controller has its strengths. The Dual Shock 3 has better face buttons and a better d-pad. The 360 controller has (far) better triggers and better sticks. Real Triggers solve the incorrect curve problem on the Dual Shock's R2 and L2 triggers, but not the lack of resistance.

Get a pair of real triggers and your L2 R2 problem will be solved. But since it sounds like you can't stand the award winning design thats been the staple of the PS brand. I suggest you do a internet search on how to mod a 360 controller to work on a PS3 it might be a pain to do though.

I also like the PS3 controller over the 360. Although neither one is bad. :)
