Don't get me wrong. I like games that are original and stray away from the typical shooter formula.

But I felt that LA Noire got really repetitive really fast. I just finished the game yesterday night and i felt that halfway through the game, the game's core mechanics really lost its novelty. The game simply boiled down to: search for clues, interview witnesses/suspects, occasionally chase after said witness, and then interrogate. This and the lack of polish in the controls really kept me from enjoying the game.

I know most games follow a repetitive formula, but great games add something to the mix to keep the gameplay fresh throughout the campaign, whether it be a really cool action sequence (like Uncharted 2 does) or a new type of weapon (like Batman AA). I'm not suggesting that LA Noire should have done any of the previously listed examples, but it would have been nice if Rockstar tried to do something to make each case feel unique. Even when changing case desks, the cases all feel pretty much the same.

Gameplay yeah, I did lose the enthusiasm I had when I first started it. The story however is great, so I'm simply playing it to see what the story holds. In fact the car chase sequences are getting on my nerves, and I'm wondering how I'm gonna get 5 starts on all missions when I have to go through those without hitting random people and cars in the streets.

That being said, it's a great game. Unique experience and more than amazing atmosphere and city. Seriously, every time I drive aorund the city I get awestruck but how spacious the streets are, how lively the city feels and how awesome the details are. I can't wait to finish the game just so I can walk around and look at the city (while of course trying to get the platinum trophy :P).

I really don't like it much at all. The Homicide section was good but thats it. All the crimes are pretty much cut and paste and i am really starting to loathe how EVERYONE looks like the prime suspect until BAM someone else is.

The interview system is extremely flawed and poorly executed as well which mostly kills the game for me. Picking what i think to be the perfect question/response in an interview only to be inexplicably locked out of a line of questioning is unsatisfying. This would not be a problem had they given you the option of beating the response out of someone in the event that diplomacy fails.

Its like, sorry, you didn't pick the write button and now you have to get up and helplessly walk away from that person who is blatantly lying. And you WILL like it.

Truth is really easy to read for the most part just going off of eye contact. Doubt and Lie are insanely inconsistent. With the wide variety of facial expressions among the unique cast it is at times simply reduced to a crapshoot between doubt and lie with you having no idea which one it is.

Doubt ends up being the right one when you thought lie was and lie ends up being the right one when you thought doubt was. I have not at any point in the game felt like i could control the outcome of an interview or interrogation. Outside of the obvious sessions it feels like a "press this button and see what happens" sort of thing.

I am totally underwhelmed. Not because the game is not good but because of how good it COULD have been.

im with u dude, this is strictly my opinion but for me its over rated boring game, def one im trading back, the combat portion of the game sucks compared to GTA or Red Dead so im disappointed on that, other then the face motion and part of the story i felt the whole thing was over hyped.

I wasn't paying much attention to the game because I wasn't sure if I was going to get it. I decided to pick it up yesterday and so far it is fantastic (not even far). I am happy with the purchase and (along with Undead NIghtmare) I am occupied until Infamous 2 :)

no your not i have heard a few things one being from my brothers friend that didn't like how it looked like gta and mafia 2 but the player isn't able to kill people, but i love l.a. noire the story is the best from anything with a rockstar logo on it and the detective part is fun and the 1947 feel and atmosphere is just awesome

I guess it can be considered boring if you don't like or are not used to games which are rather slow paced, but even then LA NOIRE has a lot of exhilarating moments, can't comment on all the content since I just finished the traffic cases. From what I have played I really loved everything, just an amazing game.

I have loved this game so far, it has done everything that it promised. Yes i will admit at times it can feel a little slow but then something happens or you find a clue that changes the entire case and makes it feel that much exciting. I think the best thing about this entire game is that its not trying to be like GTA and RDR, both of which I found to get extremely boring after a while. I think this game has lived up to the hype and then some, and lets not forget how good this game could get with with DLC.

Very true actually. You can't think of this game like any other game, you have to read, move slowly, drive slowly and take your time to think. Not just run/ run over and shoot people. So yeah, I can imagine the target audience not being your usual gamers.

I think the game is amazing so far. Taking the role of a detective is something new in the gaming industry, and i'm really glad Team Bondi focused exclusively on the Mystery elements and not make the game a "Die Hard" rehash.

FYI. Rockstar only published the game, they didn't develop it.

If you play an entire game that long for an extended period of time, especially one as slow as L.A. Noire, it's easy to get burned out. If you were getting tired of it at the halfway point, you should have taken a break. That just made you somewhat disgusted with the last half of the game, regardless of how good it might have been compared to the first.

I don't know if burn out is the problem. I've "marathonned" my way through many other games (FF13, Mortal Kombat, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, etc) and found them enjoyable. I guess another problem I have with LA Noire is that your choices have no real impact on the game. Convict the guy in interview room 1 instead of room 2? Doesn't matter. Choose lie instead of doubt and blow the line of witness questions? no biggie. The game gives you the illusion that your decisions matter, but in reality they don't.

Exactly what I've been saying. This game is definitely not for the short-attention-span youtube generation. I honestly recommend anyone under 18 to avoid this game. Not that there aren't some teenagers that will enjoy it... I know some do. But most of them are going to play it for 10 minutes, see that you can't "rampage" or shoot hookers, and then come on the forums and cry about it. And to whoever said it's just "press a button and see what happens" you aren't paying attention. You have to keep track of the evidence. You only call someone on a lie flat out if you have the evidence to back it up. If you know how all of the evidence you've collected pertains to the situation, then you can usually tell when to call them on a lie and what evidence to use to back that up. Not to mention, a lot of the times when you call someone on a lie, your character will say something that hints to which piece of evidence you need to select. Also, if you use an intuition point to help you, if you select "lie" it will narrow the selection of evidence down quite a bit and if you don't have the correct evidence, it will cross them all out. You can back out of "lie" by pressing the circle button too. I'm not going to claim that I always get it right, but usually it all makes sense, and most of the time when I get it wrong it's because I forgot something, or wasn't paying close enough attention.

the game's an acquired taste. i can understand why people compare this to action-oriented titles like gta and red dead, but if you've been following this game for the past year or so, you should know by now that it was never going to be action packed like uncharted or red dead. this is exactly what happens when you blindly shell out $60 based on hype, visuals, and strategic marketing by the publishers. i love the game and i knew what i was getting myself into.

I'm not saying i didn't like the game because it isn't like a typical shooter (IE COD, GTA, etc). Far from it. I read the previews about LA Noire over the past year, and was pretty intrigued by it based upon the previews. I wasn't expecting this game to be a typical shooter nor did i want it to be. And no, I'm not a teenager with ADD, I'm an adult. I was hoping this game would have less repetition and follow a less "formula" approach to the cases. In terms of storytelling, the game is a step in the right direction as far as what single player campaigns should strive for in the future. But from a gameplay standpoint, the game falls short. Like i mentioned before, your decisions in interrogation and line of questioning have little to no impact on how cases turn out. Although it has little in common with it, Heavy Rain seemed to succeed where LA Noire fell short and vice versa. Heavy Rain had some real emotionally gripping interactive moments, but had poor voice acting and plenty of plot holes. If there was a game that combined LA Noire's polish in story telling with Heavy Rain's emotionally gripping gameplay sequences, it'd make for one heck of an interactive game.

I pretty much agree with the OP, I'm getting close to about half way through the game and it is a very repetitive game. They throw some random happenings in there for good measure but all in all the game is rather bland. I'm still sticking with about an 8/10 rating, it has decent core mechanics but nothing to really keep me very interested. I'm just glad that the story is decent, my girlfriend even seems to like helping me figure out which people are guilty of homicides and such.

Me too but the more Im playing the more confident I feel about reading people, course it does get harder and the people become less obvious with their expressions. You just have concentrate on their faces and when you get the notebook out use the R3 to look up, usually they do something that gives them away, and if they don't they're telling the truth.

Heavy Rain isn't based entirely on being a detective. And all the other 2D games don't compare with L.A. Noire. It just gives an entirely new experience.

I agree. I understand what Rockstar was trying to do here, but there really should be more action and variety. The game does get repetitive fast and I was thinking this halfway through. I don't know if I will finish it. Red Dead Redemption is much more fun in my opinion.

I think people get sick of games because they play them for too long. TC, you only had Noire for a few days and you finished it. I've had it for four days and I've only just got the second promotion. It'll probably take me another week to reach the end credits. If I played games like some of you do, I'd probably get bored of them, too. Honestly TC, if you were getting annoyed with the game by the half way point, you should've give it a rest for a while or played something else.

I don't think its a fatigue factor for me. I personally marathon my way through most of the single player campaigns in the games I play. I finished Heavy Rain, Batman: AA, Uncharted 2, and Mass Effect 2 each within a two day span respectively and enjoyed all of those thoroughly.

Yes the storyline is really boring. I didn't expect such a game from the creator of GTA!
