OK, so this game is no "Dark Souls" or "Skyrim", but is anyone else pleasantly surprised by the demo? I thought I would check it out for a minute and delete it (as I do with most demos, these days), ended up using the entire 45 min. cap on the demo... And I really liked a lot of what I saw. A few minor glitches (to be expected in a demo, and nothing game-breaking just more like a hiccup). The graphics really catch my eye, the colors and such are trippy, and I can't wait to delve much deeper into the character leveling, crafting, and options that open up with the skill trees...

... This is written by Salvatore, right? The story seems like it's going to go into detail in the tradition of said writer, and the characters and world seem very fleshed out, even in the demo.

Are any of you diggin' on it? Does it make you :D ? Did for me. I don't see it being Day-One on my purchase wish list, but it's definitely gonna be in the library.

Thoughts?

This is the by one of the creators of the Elder Scrolls series (a series I am very fond of...warts and all...though you and I will never agree on this Monkeyspot). I have great expectations for this game (I haven't gone for the demo, but I might yet.) I have been watching this since I read of it in Game Informer.

The demo had the opposite effect on me. I was very excited for it, but after the demo I'm not expecting much really. Still getting it day 1 though.

Character creation was so limited. I had a bug where the sound went away and the dialogue auto-skipped every line, the artstyle feels very warm but graphics are just meh.

Combat was fun though, stealth especially felt awesome. Leveling is very MMO-like and I feel I can nerd on it ^^

You guys probably have seen this if you are keeping track of KoA news, but go to youtube and search "Kingdoms of Amalur PAX East"

It's an hour demo/conference/Q&A session of the game. Pretty cool to watch.

The game looks like a world of fun to play, Looks like another game I will have to pre-order. So far I have Twisted Metal and SSX, now I may have to pre-order this. Lots of good games coming out this year.

I just gave the demo a go, not bad. It seems a bit...childish compared to other open-world RPGs, but it seems to work well (a few glitches, but then, this is a demo and so, not perfect). Since I have so much in terms of a backlog, I will wait on this one, but it does look sweet!

I loved the demo, even if it had a lot of bugs. Thank god it's am earlier build. But I really enjoyed what I played, considering how open and customizable everything is. After 100 hours of Skyrim and a platinum later, I can't wait for the next big RPG to engross me. Apparently it takes 200 hours minimum to speed-run everything minus the dialogue, so I'm sure it'll soak up my time.

I like genres like this. I mean ever since i got the PS3 i fell in love with WRPGs.

Even without the DEMO if it's as good as you say then count me in.

I only started playing the demo because of the Mass Effect 3 armor, it seems like it would be a good distraction, although i don't care for the art style and the combat seems a little shallow.. With so many big releases around it already like Soul Calibur 5, FFxiii-2, Darkness 2, and Syndicate i don't see much reason to play it, not to mention the Vita is like a week after.

I thought it was awesome, I had high hopes it would be good. I also agree with you about the colors and artstyle. It's day one for me.

been watching this game for months, I like the immense possibilities with the factions asking different missions, some of which you can voluntarily fail to get to another faction ; the skill tree is split in utility skills and combat skills, the craft seems nice, the combat is good enough (difficult to be original in thei game genre)(nice to have chakrams), graphics are good for me

already pre ordered

I have also seen videos of bad guys disappearing and reappearing into existence. The game seems to run different for each person it seems. The problems that happened to me did not happen to others. The problems I saw in videos were not present when I played the demo. It is funky. If this is any indication of the final build, then people should forget about this game and move on. Thanks for reading.

I also say this game is pretty sweet. Went the a panel about the game at San Diego Comic Con and I was literally drooling at all the artwork and the footage. Doesn't hurt that one of my favorite baseball players is a gamer as well.

Am really looking forward to this game! I've been following it for a while now and have had my preorder in place since I noticed who the devs were. What I played of the demo was great. I really like this style of rpg and graphics. I didn't play the full time limit though. Played enough to confirm my excitement for this game.

With all due respect, if people can play through and around all the BS of "Skyrim" on a PS3 while waiting patiently for patches, and still rave and rave about the good things while basically ignoring the bad, then this game should be given equal amounts (if not more) of consideration for what was done right, and for that judgement not to come until the game is released, and played to completion by some real gamers.

Your use of the word "if" should be stressed to all readers of this thread. You make a good point with "IF", so I respect your opinion. I feel that devs should never release a game that upsets as many people as "Skyrim" has, for sure. But conjecture on a final product based on early-build demos is not fair.

Posters discussing "Battlefield 3" slapped me with that, and I agree (I retracted my judgemental statements about BF3 based on that demo/Beta they released). Same should apply here. Do you agree?

:)

I don't see how the console fanbase for skyrim would be disappointed, I think the disappointment has more to do with the PC version which was very consolized. What I mean by that is, even on the PC version of Skyrim, it's more controller friendly then a keyboard mouse, which is what disappointed the PC fanbase, they didn't change anything to make it best for both, the menu system when using the PC is atrocious. Yea, the lag is bad on the console once you get up to an 11mb save file, but after the first patch I barely notice it, it's still there but not nearly as bad, but then again, this is coming from a person that also plays games on the PC, so I learn to deal with a little bit of lag. The navigation of the items on the PC should be different compared to the navigation of the items on console, currently it's a huge disappointment in that aspect.

First of all, this being the PS3 forum we don't really care about PC discussion. I hear what you're saying, but my statement was focused on the myriad troubles the PS3 version is having. If this game (Amalur) was created by some folks who branched off from "Skyrim" and most of the PS3 players are willing to give it ("Skyrim") a wide swing on bugs, glitches, and out-right breakage on the PS3, then the same consideration should be given to this game. On the face of it, though it's a different presentation and possibly a less-complex game ("Skyrim" being so ultra-huge and flexible on approach to play), it should still be allowed to be released and played in it's "final" form (patches pending, of course) before it is judged on it's competency of construction.

I mean no offense when I say that the PC version of "Skyrim" doesn't matter here in this discussion, because you have some points to consider above, but honestly it's not germain to this particular conversation.

All Respect to you.

I downloaded it (mostly for the Mass Effect stuff :P) but didn't really care for it. I admit 100% that it was because it wasn't my type of game and otherwise, if you like that genre, it looks pretty cool.

ive been hearing more and more about this game. i guess i should download the demo and check it out. i saw some footage and it doesnt look bad, although it's definately not a first day buy for me. i gotta be more cautious about buying anything associated with elder scrolls after skyrims lag and bugs (although i still love that game). but ill prolly get it eventually.

1 think i love about the game is that it's action oriented...... which is a basic concept most of games lack despite having large content....
