Ok so I have had my ps3 since launch and everything has been working fine until yesterday, I tried to start up Fifa 09 and was greeted with "An error occurred during the start operation. 80010514" this is only happening with fifa, I tried a few other games, Dead Space/Resistance and the both started up, but with fifa all I'm getting is the error code. I have done some research and it seems there is a mixed opinion as to whether or not this is a hardware or a software issue, I can find much information past April last year and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this as my ps3 is out of warranty and I don't fancy forking out £300 on a new one?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Mine did that once, except it wouldnt start ANY games. Not even the demos on my hdd. I just turned my ps3 off for about a day and left it alone, and when i came back the next day it was fine.

If it's only happening with FIFA then I would assume something is wrong with the disc. Perhaps you can go to a local used game store and ask if they could help you troubleshoot the issue with a different copy of the game. Also, ask if they can test your disc. Otherwise you should be able to send it in for repair to Sony. They will charge you a fee though, here in the US I believe it was $149 for PS3 repairs.

Is it possible that the disk is dirty or damaged?
