Well when i hook up the ps3 to the 720p i just get a blank screen. I can hear the music in the backround though

or your tv doesn't have HDCP?

do you have component? try it and if it works then your tc doesn't have HDCP

change the setting on your tv perhaps? my tv has a differant setting for every hook up on it (basically i hit the tv/video button and a list pops up and i select one) and it has one for hdmi and composet and your tv is probably getting the sound out if you have a dvd player surrond sound type thing

The tv im using does not have a compenent ins or outs it just has hdmi. i don't think there is a way to configure the video ports. My tv/video is on hdmi and all i get is sound and no picture.

you dont really need hdmi if you tv only has 720p. components are good also, but do you want 5 wires vs. 1 LOL

I have a 24 inch 1080p moniter. Would it be better to hook it up to it?(it have a port for an hdmi plug)

yes. 1080p is the highest hd resolution. in fact, it's the best

Try this. When you hook up your ps3, turn on your ps3, but hold down the button for more than 5 seconds. Make sure your monitor is on
