Use the Blu-ray Damn You!
Jeremy, when do you think we will see third-party multiplatform PS3 games that have extra Blu-ray content on them compared to Xbox 360 versions? For example: Oblivion PS3 has the "Knights of the Nine" expansion right there on the disc. Will any other developers take advantage of the large space divide?

--Paul

The Darkness allows PS3 users to watch Nosferatu in its entirety.

A handful of upcoming games are already using it. Rainbow Six: Vegas (AKA: the shooter whose release date perpetually melts) will have extra content not found in the original Xbox 360 version; 2K's The Darkness will have several full-length films that can be watched on in-game television sets, and Spider-Man 3 (special edition) will include a truckload of behind the scenes footage and an entirely unique playable character (the New Goblin).

Extra space is your friend.

Very nice.

Although I'm still waiting for the day the actual game eats up 50GB. Not extra content, not some film, not a truckload of behind the scenes footage, and not just an additional character.

A whole, fully-immersive, blow-my-jaw-off game!

Btw, fantastic sig :D

They wont unless its un exclusive. its way easier to make a 360 game and port it so if its a multi platform it would just be minor additional content. im waiting for mgs4 for my jaw to leave y face but i kind figured out that im going to get my ps3 moneys worth a little down the road.

Whoa.  So even if The Darkness sucks, I'll at least kinda have a copy of Nosferatu that I can watch on an in-game TV on my real-life TV?

That's so totally Escher.

It makes me wonder if the devs for The Darkness will let Jackie sit down to actually...watch...TV.  Or if it'll just be on as you go by, like in every other game out there.

The couch potato side of me wants to occasionally take a break from shooting people and demons in the face to watch some classic vampire action. :D

I know. I wasn't saying it to insult a system. I was saying I'm genuinely awaiting such a game. MGS4 looks awesome thus far.

Also this is a start how third parties will use the bluray as an advantage, while first parties will fully implement it, like MGS4.  Another example from third parties can be Burnout 5 where it will have 1080p and perfect for many physics intensive crashes.

Who knows by first parties taking the benifit of the bluray will pull over third parties to use the PS3 as the base console.  We will see alot more examples in the near future why the bluray is needed and its advantage....starting from LAIR and Heavenly Sword.

Some part of me is making me think that Hollywood's going to get in that action.

"Buy the new Casino Royale videogame, only on Playstation 3.  As a bonus treat, the movie Casino Royale is included in its entirety in stunning 1080p visuals with 7.1 channel surround sound audio, brought to you only on Blu-Ray Disc."

Just wait, man.  It'll happen. >_>

Not according to Factor 5.

"You'll have a hard time if you port without having a PS3 game in mind when you created the 360
version. That is where a lot of complaints are coming from. They created the 360 engine with a
unified memory architecture in mind, with the embedded frame buffer with its advantages and
disadvantages, and not thinking too much in early stages about multicore. If you try to get that
over to the PS3, you're in for a bad surprise. The PS3 is all about streamlining about the two
different memory pools. They are separate. You don't have to do tiling because you don't have an
embedded frame buffer. All of these advantages of the PS3 turn into disadvantages if you don't
start making your game on the PS3. Hence the griping. If you create first on the PS3, it is
pretty easy to port it to the 360. A lot of companies coming on board now will probably start on
the PS3 and move to the 360. The lucky thing for us is we didn't have to think about the 360 at all."

Q&A with Factor 5

It's easier to make the full game and then step down to the 360 version instead of pulling yourself up to the PS3 version.:P
