Okay guys, I have just recently purchases a PS3 but now I am going to need a TV. I am a college student with around 700 dollars to spend. I don't know very much about HDTV's other than 720p and 1080i which i believe corresponds to resolution? Anyways I am really only concerned with getting a 720p but I dont know which brands to go with because most reviews I look at on line, one place likes a specific TV and another hates it.

Sorry if this question has been beaten to death but it just seems like its so complicated to find a good deal on the right TV these days.

I agree, Sony/Samsung. But I guess it depends on what screen size you want. Since you have a PS3 looking for a tv that supports 1080P is the best way to go,,dont get me wrong I have Samsung that has 1080i and it looks really good, but I also have a Toshiba dlp 1080P tv and when the PS3 is hooked up to that via HDMI in 1080P all I can say is MOTHER OF PEARL!!

Well I was looking for the 32-40 inh range, but like I said only around 700 dollars am I willing to spend. I know the jump in price from 720p to 1080i is expensive but is it worth it for that small of a TV? I also heard something about the sony bravias being excellent.

You being a student and all I'm guessing you can't have a really big one also with only 700 to spend you shouldn't get a big one if you are looking for good quality.

Toshiba REGZA

Sony Bravia

Samsung LNT

This are some really great tvs that are guaranteed to provide you the best quality for your money. They are not too small, not too big. Also, don't buy a 1080p if it's smaller than 50inches because you won't see it.

Yea I just purchased a Samsung LN-T2642 for my Dorm room. I think any larger would have been too big. The HD on the Samsung is great. Lots of customizations, from 10 lvls of backlight, color temperature, and zoom. It does a decent job at standard cable television, but not as good as my 12" CRT that I replaced it with. I'm satisfied awesome TV. Btw I brought it from this store called Frys

www.frys.com

I paid around $580 with shipping and there was no tax being shipped to New York City.

Yes you will and read this carefully DO NOTspend more than $20 for them.

Here's a good one:

Here

If you try and buy one at retail stores they will charge you $30, $50 up to $200 for a cable that does the same thing as one for $8.99.

Yea you need to buy a HDMI cable and make sure the TV has lots of connections. At least 2 HDMI's, S-video, headphone jack, Component, and maybe a PC input so you can plug in your computer to it as a monitor.
Also make sure the speed of the screen is at most 8ms.

The Toshiba one looks very nice of the ones you linked. I think I am prolly gona go with that not to mention it is extermely cheap and has all the slots in the back that you guys suggested. Is amazon the place to buy this from, or should I go into a best buy and look for one there?

Best Buy is way overpriced, so I'dcheckonline and see what they charge for shipping, etc. I've seen an extra $100 tacked on depending on the size....

If you live in the Continental US, www.frys.com is pretty good. They only charge tax to certain states. But I saved around $100 from buying from there instead of somewhere like BestBuy. Delivery was about 4 days on DHL service.

I have a 32' Bravia LCD that does a great job although it only goes up to 1080i (I saw a news program where some techs were saying that 720p and and 1080p needs such a high bandwidth that it may not be ready for broadcast for a while).

well , you can check if best buy has that model and check the price, if it's the same go for it. I recommend going to the store anyways to at least look at it and see if you like it, if it's more expensive then buy it from amazon or newegg, both are great websites and usually way cheaper than retail stores.

Okay so I looked at the 37' Toshiba of the same model and it is only 270 more making it 950. I am wondering if this picture quality is going to be just as good as the 32' one and is it worth the 270 more dollars do you think? because I would enjoy a bigger picture more. Also what would you say is the distance you are suppose to sit from these tv's without them looking like crap?

Just stay clear of Vizio and you'll be fine.
