I'm not trying to start any wars here or anything i am in the market for a ps3 and wanted to know if there are any known problems with them that i should know about. I had a ps2 and after about 2 years of owning it it became a paperweight because i got those damn disc read errors. Does the ps3 glitch up at all or freeze, does it ever overheat etc. I just want to overlook everything before i drop $600 on one. Have a Wii and 360 already so why not buy a ps3 to complete it.

It'll be the most stable system you own if you purchase it. ;)

It eats children. No joke.

I've found it more reliable then... actually, no I can't say that. I've NEVER had a console break down, or give me ANY errors. The PS3 is no exception. Some people complain that there fans don't quiet down... This could be because it's to warm, or they're just crazy people (Im used to sound as one of my CPU's has 8 fans in the thing). The other known problem mainly lies on bluetooth conflicts / bluetooth adapter problems.

It's normally a "if it's not defective when you get the system- it won't be defective" problem though. These are just things I've heard on these forums. They're so rare though considering how many people own a PS3 and how many complain- and you got no proof they got one.

Also, the system has no even been out long enough to void a 1 year warrenty... So, there really isn't enough experience testing the reliability remember. The Xbox 360's errors started appearing just outside of the 1-year warrenty. I thought I'd make that logical point when people "praise" the PS3. You never know, but... All tests show it's reliable.

Jip very stable machine.. And Very much to be expected after $600.

I checked it online before buying one (alwaays wary of launch consoles) and I found almost nothing..

And I think I might have the fan problem but only when I'm watching a dvd for some reason.

Absolutly no bluetooth problems though.

Just picked one up, i set up everything just now and started downloading some demos. Only question i have is how do you cancel current downloads or pending downloads. I see no option to cancel the download once you hit download from the playstation store. N00b question but i am a n00b to the system.

If you look at the download section on the XMB, the downloads in progress and pending should be listed. If you highlight them and press Triangle, it will give you the option to cancel them.

heres a poll that was posted at beyond3d.com. this site generally doesn't have any immature kiddies posting, and everyone is fairly honest and mature (ie, not many trolls/fanboys). http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=41013

It's a stable system!! No problems what so ever!! But you got to remember not to lock it up in an entertainment system.  Give it room...let it breath!  Don't overhat your room as well. Keep the room at normal temperature...and place it closer to a window or something....so you can open it up sometimes let some fresh air in. Don't ever hit it or kick it (many people do that and then they are complaining that it stopped working). Keep your disc's cleen and when you take them out from your PS3 put them in their covers don't just throw them on the table.  So basicaly treat it as an expensive item as it is and you should be fine!  And also it's not a portible system...so if your friends want to see it they should come over not the other way around...you know what I mean?

Paranoid... anyway the problems i had with the thing is when it is confined it gets LOUD and sometimes (not when its hot) the connection between controller and system it lost. Dont know why it just happens. Hmmm..... wifi cuts out a lot, its weird cause it doesnt cut out wen ur playing games online or downloading demos(which is good) it just cuts out wen ur on the web or do other things not internet related. It just annoying to see that stupid message at the top of ur screen keep popping up. Umm... yup thats it. Nothing extreme like the "red ring of death" (my friend just got it, that mine 360 is fine so far).

no malfunctioning problems but here's some that people have noted

1. PS3 won't upscale 720p games to 1080i only TV's (forced to play in 480p)

2. Chance of freezing on web browser (like 2% chance)

3. Controller may start doing random things when wireless (not interpret buttons, uncontrollable) for 1-2 seconds (happens around once a month for me)

4. PS3 fan getting a bit loud after a while (nobody cares bout this one)

5. PS3 may spit out disc for no reason (defective, only seen one or two in my life on forums)

6. WiFi may get weak (your problem not the PS3's)

7. Headset compatibility may cause problems

8. Makes the air around it warm.

Not really any issues eitehr than these and these are so small that they'er unnoticeable. If you're one of the 4 million with a PS3, don't expect any issues. there's less than 1% of the people with one that have a defective ps3 (my guess lol)
