Any must-get ps2 games for my ps3?

Forgot to mention the Grand Theft Auto series, Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Resident Evil Code Veronica X & Resident Evil 4, Okami, Bully, Prince of Persia series, Shadow Hearts series, SOCOM series, TimeSplitters series, Tomb Raider Legend & Tomb Raider Anniversary, ICO, Odin Sphere, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, War of the Monsters, and many, many more...(if I remember some more games, I'll keep up posting them).

LOL I bought my PS2 in 2001 and only discovered the beauty of Kingdom hearts last week. Pure magic.

You guys are making me happy I got a PS3. Can't wait to see these franchises coming to nextgen.

For PS2 God of War is awesome. Ratchet and Clank are good fun too.

They've all pretty much been said so far, but my must-haves were:

ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Suikoden III, Silent Hill 2-4, Okami, God of War 1&2, Devil May Cry 1-3, Star Ocean 3, Soul Calibur 2&3, Grand Theft Auto series, Tales of the Abyss, Rogue Galaxy and Fatal Frame 2&3. Sure I forgot something, but that's the majority.

I think I saw somewhere there is about 1200 PS2 games and don't forget about the PS1 games that you may want to play as well. Then the PS3 games out now and the ones coming out soon.

And just think everyone says there are no games for the PS3.

Literally. I played through GoW1 for first time two days ago and completed it in 6 hours.

My list would be Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, God Of War 2, Final Fantasy 12, Kingdom Hearts 2, Soul Calibur 3, Guitar Hero 2. Picked the best game from each of the best game series IMO.

I would recommend: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I and II, Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms, Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect, Star Wars Battlefront I and II, Resident Evil 4(the only one I've played), as well as God of War I and II. Here are some runner-ups: Dark Cloud I and II, Burnout Revenge, Gran Turismo series, Heroes of the Pacific, 007: Nightfire (last great FPS Bond game), Socom series, ICO, and Shadow of the Colossus. Have a good day, and know that many will envy you getting to experience these, and other, excellent PS2 games for the first time.

Especially if you got a EU PS3, I heard Ratchet and Clank don't play well on it.

A lot of games listed aren't compatible with the PS3. Devil May Cry 3 is, but MGS series isn't, neither is FFX, but FFXII should work alrightish, I don't know about GoW or Shadow of the Colossus, but you'd best check on the compatibility site.

Hmmmm good question... there are a bunch... here goes some of my favorites:

Beyond Good and Evil - Adventure Zelda like game with very original story and characters

Bully - Grand Theft Auto type game set in schoolyard ( i liked it better than San Andreas)

Dragon Quest 8 - Awesome soundtrack and a great Japanese RPG.

Final Fantasy 10 and 12 - Both are probably the best Japanese RPGs in the platform

God of War 1 and 2 - great, bloody action game

All the Grand theft autos - sandbox galore

Ratchet and Clank - great platforming and IMO the closest thing to Mega Man in spirit in the past generation of consoles

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus - two games that approach art, play ICO first though

Mark of Kri and sequel - fun action like God of War but with different controls

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 - classic sneak games.... 3 is the best so far IMO

Okami - gorgeous game and LONG adventure game (over forty hours)

Rogue Galaxy - from makers of Dragon Quest 8, therefore its quality, fun space adventure RPG

Silent Hill 2 and 3 - scary stuff but so worth it. 2 had a great, touching story

SSX, SSX Tricky or SSX On Tour - great snowboarding games

Twisted Metal Black - Dave Jaffe classic car combat - good times

XMen Legends 1 and 2 - great if youre an Xmen fan like me

Are you crazy I just finished Metal Gear 3 on my PS3....All mine on my list work on the PS3...

The list is very very long. Check my game collection to see all the games that are worth in my opinion. It's more than seventy i think.:P

This is an extremely useful thread because I am tyring to get all the games I missed on the PS2.

If I was to recommend just a few games to a person new to the Playstation brand I would recommend

Final Fantasy X , God of War, Metal Gear Solid 3: Substinance, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne,

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Ratchet & Clank

I didn't want to overload you because from the post above I think you have your hands full.

All of the above plus:

Jak and Daxter series

Tekken series (Or just Tekken 5)

Onimusha

Socom series

Digaea series (If you like RPG tactics)

I think that should keep you occupied for a few years. :)

MGS3 and FFX definately work on ps3 (with emulation). Also GoW1/2, GTA:SA both work fine, although I haven't played GTA:SA the whole way through on it.

To be honest I haven't found any games that didn't work.

Avoid that game. It looks like a tragedy to nowadays standards due to it's horrific framerate. Good back when it first came out. On the PS3 it looks like a joke.

Metal Gear Solid Series, Midnight Club Series, Kingdom Hearts Series, Grand Theft Auto Series, and the Jak And Daxter Series. But those are just my top five PS2 Series, there are a lot more and it depends on your preferance.
