I'm kinda going through a bit of withdraw here. I haven't played a really good open world, turn based, lots of level grinding RPG in a long time. Everything these days is going the way of games like Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur, which aren't necessarily bad games, they just aren't my cup of tea. I was hoping there would be a few good turn based games like the older Final Fantasy games, but I haven't really heard of anything except for Tales of Graces F, but I didn't get that because it's not turn based and I'm not really into the whole anime thing. If anyone knows of anything similar to Final Fantasy(like I said, the older ones, not that hideous monstrosity FF13-2) that's kinda what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Um, you don't gotta be so rude. If you don't know of anything, don't answer.

He's not really being rude, just honest. There isn't a large market for those kinds of games nowadays on console so they're mostly getting pushed to handhelds because they're cheaper to develop for. If you're really interested in old school turn based RPGs I'd suggest investing in either a 3DS or Vita.

Man, Tales of Graces f is a great game. The combat system is really fun, despite being in real time, not turn based.

Open world, turned based rpg's do not exist anymore. It's a shame.

If Dragonquest 8 comes to psn, then get that. If you have a ps2, buy it. Awesome game.

There is a strategy-RPG game called Rainbow Moon coming out on PSN soon. Don't know if that's what your looking for butI think it might be turned based and it seems you can sink a lot of hours into it because of the level grinding you have to do.

Gamespot doesn't have much coverage on it but the playstation team at IGN seems to have a lot more.

Anyway that's out on 4th July is the US but I think you'll have to wait a little longer for a UK version.

Eh, not really seeing anything I haven't already heard of. Maybe I'll just stick with the PSOne Classics for now. Thanks for the answers.

Why not give Dragon age origins a try? It's not the traditional turn based style you might be used to from older FF games, but it's still got some turn based elements, and real time...kinda hard to explain, you can pause during combat often to select attacks, but at same time you can just select on the go...you and the enemy will both fight simultaneously instead of taking turns...regardless it's a fantastic game that I couldn't recommend more for anyone who prefers older style RPG games...and it's very cheap right now because it's a few years old.

If anything, check youtube to see the combat, might give you a good idea of what it's like.

That turn based JRPG style you are looking for seems to be a dying breed. This generation especially.

I did. I never even got through the whole game. Story wasn't bad, but personally I thought the combat was a tad boring. Like I said, I'm looking for turn based games. These newer ones despite the graphics and expansive worlds just aren't doing it for me for some reason.

I know it's been out for a while but Resonance of Fate might be something to look into. I never played it but the combat systems looked to be either turn based or turn based inspired.
