The 1st one I bought for my PS3 was FF13. Preordered it. Loved the series until then. Finished FF13. Will never buy a FF sequel again. Awful.

Recently bought star ocean: the last hope. Playing it now, fighting myself @ every turn to keep playing it, but once I manage to get over the horrid and irritating voice acting and generic story, this game might just turn out ok. Exploring and fights are great.

Also tried Folklore as I've heard good things about it, but so far it's been extremely weird, boring and no fun at all. So I'll skip that.

Anything else out there worth playing?

Thx

P.S. I should add that I've played most titles such as mass effect 1-2, Oblivion/Fallout , the witcher, etc. So the PC titles are out. Only console exclusives.

You may be right. I tried the demo a while back, liked it, but never quite got around buying it. Always seems a bit weird...not really your typical jRPG. But the reviews seem great, so I'l put it on the purchase list.

Any other titles worth playing?

FFXIII wasn't *that* bad.xsynth

Don't even get me started on FF13... That game prooved 2 things:

1. Square assumed they can stop making quality games, and replace them with oversimplified, linear, uninspired and overhyped RPG look-alike's and that people will be dumb enough to buy it without thinking.

2. That Square was right.

I weep for the gaming comunity of tommorow.

You might like the next installment (versus looks brilliant) Maybe try disaega? I haven't played it but heard people like it haxsynth

I'm all for story over graphics, but there IS a limit. A game that can run on my phone with FPS to spare is not smthing I'd consider buying for my PS3. I did hear it to be a great game, though. Maybe there's an iphone version... :D

I've recommended this JRPG again and again but I'll say it one more time - Resonance of Fate.

Saw the review. Looks promising. But they keep mentioning it being very hard with dying often...? Is it true? Or do the reviewers just suck @ it?

The demo doesn't do the game justice. Trust me. You should try Disgaea 3 and Resonance of Fate. Both are fantastic JRPGs. There's also Atelier Rorona, Eternal Sonata, and Trinity Universe, although I haven't played those yet.

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it.

gonna be bashed for that, but Enchanted arms was nice, bet you can find it for about 10$ now, very interesting battle system with a grid for each side and attacks have a different pattern and you find golems (108 I think) that you manage in your group

You said "Will never buy a FF sequel again."

Wow... hold it right there because you might regret what you just said there.

More great FF series is on their way. FFV13, FF14 online, FF Agito and many more. You cant resist all this, right?

Looks like you focussed to much on SE, but they aren't strong this gen. You can't go wrong with Valkyria Chronicles and Resonance of Fate. Other games you might like even though they are niche titles are Disgaea 3, Trinity Universe, Atelier Rorona, Cross Edge and Agarest of War. Got through them all and plated most of them because I enjoyed them so much ^^

EDIT: lol at the guy above me, you haven't played FF14, have you? It's about the worst MMKORPG ever released and pretty much every gamer, reviewer and SE (!) themselfs agree with me

Valkyria Chronicles is very hard but not too bad. I got rid of it after getting a few hours in and kept dying on a level that after about 30-45 mins of play some seemingly invincible player who could whizz round at high speed just annihilated everyone I had left. A few tries of that with the amount of tedious play time to make up those 30-45 mins again every time just made me completely fall out with the game. It's not bad, but I don't consider it a proper JRPG in terms of what I expect from the genre, it's a strategy RPG with no exploration. Cut scene, strategic battle, win battle, level up characters/weapons, cutscene etc. The battles are generally very fun and it has a unique art style that a lot of people love (though personally I don't). What I saw of the story bored me, personally, but that's probably just down to personal taste on my part. Disgaea 3 is a grid based strategy RPG, but an extremely good one that I'd totally recommend. Again, it's not FF-ish in any way shape or form, but a great game for what it is and it's pretty funny.

To be honest, Star Ocean 4 is the best traditional JRPG I've played on the PS3, Eternal Sonata did nothing for me, FFXIII was mediocre at best. With Japanese audio and English subs Star Ocean was far more bearable in terms of dialogue and as you say, the exploration and battles are really fun. Quite liked the story and most of the characters, although I can see why a lot of people wouldn't. After playing through P3P and watching a load of Persona 4 on Giant Bomb I'm hoping Persona 5 comes out on PS3 at some point fairly soon.

you are in chapter 7 and complaining about story? and I don't know why you guys just sort of "quit" if a game is hard, did you try using guides or looking up strategies on internet for that matter?

But the loading times were horrible... That's what turned me away from the game :S Just too many loading screens...

If your PS3 can play PS2 games I would recommend the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series. If you speak Japanese I'd recommend Tales of Vesperia since it only came out on the 360 in America. I heard Resonance of Fate is good but have not played it.

I always considered that an SRPG, since it played like one.
