I like fighting games but it seems like they aren't as popular as they used to be and there aren't many fighting games around especially when it comes to beat em up games. There are just a couple handful fighting games for the PS3. They still have the one and one fighting games but where are the side scrolling beat em up games like streets of rage 2? They use to be so much fun.

PS. And Tekken 6 scenario campaign doesn't count.

Well, I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be a Final Fight HD Remix (or something like that) somewhere in the Capcom section of the store.

Other than that? I'm not sure. Fist Of The North Star is coming out soon. But it's just another "well produced" Koei game that's just a direct copy of Dynasty Warriors with FOTNS skins it seems. (pretty much, like every other DW game including Gundam ect..)

The last great beat'em up game i've played was Shaolin Monks but that was last gen. Still worth a play through though if you like the genre as much as you say.

Streets of Rage ..TC from the old-school, like myself. Try Final Fight on PSN. Old-school right there.

Well, it's not much of a fix, but, if you're really desperate, you could try sitting through the Tekken adventure sections until something solid comes along.

There are God Of War, Heavenly Sword, and the Conan game... those are sort of beat'em ups.

Next month the Scott Pilgrim game is being released on PSN and XBLA. It's a 2D side-scrolling final-fight styled brawler.

For your perusal:

As a fan of the graphic novel series i think it looks pretty damn awesome.

Well theres Yakuza 3, it isn't side scrolling but it can certainly count as a Beat Em up, it also has RPG elements though which you may or may not like.

No they're not.....haha, did you even read his post and what he wanted? An old-school 2d brawler..not one of the games you listed fits what he wants. Final Fight Scott Pilgrim There's another one like Double Dragon on PSN too, legend of dragon or something, I forget the title.

Streets of Rage 2, one of my favorite Genesis games second only to Earthworm Jim..It's a shame there's really not that much out there that compares nowadays. Yakuza 3 is close, but not a lot like it....as for the hack-n-slash games people listed above (God of War, Bayonetta, etc.,) those definitely aren't similar to what TC is looking for.

Your best bet is downloading the oldies off PSN. I always thought Fighting Force was pretty decent. Definitely a beat 'em up.

Yakuza 3. . . If you wanna venture out of the PS3 try Shenmue I & II (Dreamcast & Xbox. . . Shenmue II is Xbox exclusive in US but you can buy Pt II for Dreamcast online)

Supposedly Castle Crashers is still set to come out on PS3 eventually. That's probably tied for my favorite side scrolling beat-'em-up ever with Streets of Rage 2.

Or if you have a 360 as well you could just buy it right away, been on 360 for awhile...

Unfortunately games like Streets of Rage dont appear to be made anymore (except for fan-games). Here is a list of games like Streets of Rage (the list includes a screen-shot and description for each game): http://l-lists.com/en/lists/qreay4.html People can register to add to the list. The list entries are subject to some strict criteria: - The playable characters should be able to walk up, down, left and right (this rules out 2D platformers and most versus style fighting games). - The playable characters basic attacks should only be in the direction of left or right (this rules out many third person fighting games released on the 5th generation consoles onwards) - The playable characters would typically encounter multiple enemies at the same time (which rules out the remaining versus style fighting games)

Okay I'm like six months too late for this topic. But I want to add here that I miss those games as well and I want to see them come back. I don't mean I want 2d side scrolling stuff back, but this genre back. Last game, a good game in this genre was probably Fighting Force on original Playstation. It was super hyper fun to play with my brother. They killed the fun in sequel by removing two player co-op mode. We seriously want this genre back!

Im really missing the Ready 2 Rumble series. It seems the only developer out there that understands what people want is Naughty Dog. What about another Revolt. The gaming industry is becoming lame to be honest. What about another Jackie Chan Stuntmaster

You could still get the Genesis compilation game. There is also Scott Piilgrim vs the world game and also X-Men. I just wish that they made a great beat em up with great ps3 graphics in similar fashion to Streets of Rage 2. No swords and no slashing like the God of War games.

I think the this PS3 generation really missed out on beat em ups and also horror games. The PS3 should have made some great horror games.

it's a sword and sorcery setting rather than an urban one like streets of rage, but dragon's crown is great.

god hand is a PS2 game but you can download it on PSN. it's pretty much the closest thing to pure 2D beat 'em ups being translated to 3D.
