so i picked up and beat god of war 3 this weekend and thought it was one of the most incredible games to date.

graphics - superb

gameplay - phenominal

plot - great

feeling upon completion - exceptionally satisfying

i read on some forums that this is the end to a trilogy but as we've seen with other games and franchises, that may never be the case.

anyone have any insight on a god of war 4 release perhaps?

Wouldn't it be better if the same team develops a completely new game?

Haven't played it, but now that you mentioned it, I'll do some research. But I mean, GoW 3 closes the series. I'm just a bit tired of never ending series and few new IPs.

I mean, I like to think that GoW3 was the end of the series, but i also keep thinking that somebody as strong as Kratos can't be dead,

There will be spin-off games I'm sure, like the upcoming Ghost of Sparta for the PSP. I'd like to see them create a new game though or HS2.

Please, for the love of the Gods, no more God of War. They have milked this franchise enough. Part 2 should have been about 2 hours longer and ended it all there. I loved the first 2, but 3 was just not that great of a game IMO -it was exactly the same as the first 2 games with better graphics (same story, puzzles, events, tools, etc)

I would much rather have a new IP developed with the same production values that GoW3 had.

There really isnt much else they could do with the GoW formula that wouldnt just be rehash and to be honest, the 3 games we already have arent that different from each other to begin with...

Lol, whats your definition of milked? 3 games and a PSP game? Make that two PSP games now I suppose. What about games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, basically every game out there. In comparison, God of War has a very small franchise.

Please, dear God, not another God of War. One of my favorite franchises -- don't ruin it with a tacked-on sequel for money! PLEASE!

5 games (2 psp, 2 PS2, 1 PS3...and then a collection) based on a story that should have been over after part 2 (part 2 should have 2 more hours to finish it) It is obvious that they struggled to come up with any more story and gameplay
1. story is the exact same -someone betrays Kratos right as he is about to 'win' at the beginning, gets sent to hell (sans powers), work the entire game to get back powers and back where you were -looking for pandora's box...again -get 'new' blades...again 2. Action is the exact same -same exact way of fighting same old enemies (skeletons, cyclops, harpies, minotaurs, etc)...nothing new ...but it is easier, especially the 'challenges' 3. Items are mostly the same -same weapons (bow and arrow, blades, wings, golden fleece, helios' head replaces the Medusa one, only hermes sandals are new) -magic is scaled down though. one spell per weapon 4. story starts good and trails off -Kratos gets all emotional towards the end -...blah, blah, blah, "hope this, hope that"...is not Kratos (I am exaggerating here. not THAT bad I guess) 5. Short Game 6. Puzzles are the same -move cranks here, slide blocks there, use wings to glide w/ steam TBH, GoW II should have been about 5 hours longer and included this...Part 3 is really a drawn out expansion pack of part II (but way better looking)
I call stretching anything beyond where it should be stretched milking a franchise If there had been a new story. new gameplay...hell, anything fresh...I would not call it milking the franchise

I really hope they don't make a GoW4... The series is running dry and GoW3 is proof of that. It was a fantastic game, but another sequel WILL suck.

there will no doubt be prequels to the series, God of war 3 pretty much ended the series so I can only see prequels happening now, I also predict will see a god of war 2.5d fighting game, like when your fighting zues

God of War is an epic franchise, but I'm not sure Kratos actually died at the end of the 3rd game so how can we come to that conclusion? I'm almost positive that he died, but it seems like they left a little window open in case they decide to extend the franchise and build on it. So you never really know I think they won't make a 4th one, but there is always the chance they will. I think they might focus on prologues that led up to all of this and that might be it. I just don't see a whole lot left to work with. I honestly hope that the same company starts a completely new game. They should start off fresh.

The ending definately left it open for another game. I'm thinking that whatever they do next will involve Kratos' brother. Personally I don't mind seeing another game in the series, even if it is basically more of the same. The series doesn't have that incredible of a story to begin with, it's pretty much just there to move the action along. And that's what makes this series shine, the action, the gameplay. It's something that I have a lot of fun with (I've replayed each of the three games several times). For those of you so against another installment to the series there is a solution: you don't have to play it.

That is easy for you to say, you are not the developer/producer wanting to move as many units as possible
...at this rate, it will be the next tomb raider (they just kept making the same game over again as well)

Also, with the development costs as high as they are for a game like this, they cannot afford to take that risk
I am sure another game would still sell really well...but hard to say how many after that would (that would make 6 games that are exactly the same)

The game will sell. It's a hot franchise and given the success of the franchise I highly doubt Sony's going to end it now. Really, you think they're going to look at what a few users on a message board say and be all "well, we'd better not make GoW4, some folks on the Gamespot forums are gonna be upset if we do"? No, they're going to look at the bottom line, and that bottom line is that GoW has been an incredibly successful franchise. They're going to look at the franchise's near 12,000,000 units sold. They're gonna want to keep that going.

Of course they are not going to look here.

They will look at a very simple ratio...Profit Ratio on the game (development costs/revenue).
-with the ever increasing costs to make the game, they will have to sell more units now than they did on the PS2 to make it 'worth while'

I already said that another game would sell in my post

But the trick is to get out 'while the getting is good'
...better to leave some money on the table than to lose some
In the end, there will probably be 2 more games (another that sells well and one that does not...similar to countless series before this one)
But some of us can't help but be saddened by what we know is coming

Well when you say they have to get it out "while the getting is good" I know what you mean. If they are going to make new games they have to do it while GoW is still "in". It could work, the only thing I'm worried about is the company focusing on that and then rushing the making of their game and then it comes out terrible and that game could get ripped by the press. If that happens then the whole company could go under. And then no more epic games of any kind from the same makers. It would be a shame. So they just have to decide if the risk is worth it or not. Oh and thanks for the tip with quote I was really confused.

Well IF they were to make another one it would probably not involve kratos. Maybe his brother. But you know I cant help wondering, at the end of GOW3 (UBER SPOILERS) the entire world was left in complete ruin. Maybe the story could be about some other hero trying to fix the world now that it was left destroyed. I dont know thats just my opinion

It could be about fighting for people. It doesn't have to be a happy game where everyone loves each other. It can still be epic. Or maybe all of a sudden the makers will go all "Author of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series and start making random games about roman gods.

It is a good studio. I would much prefer a new franchise than them trying to force something into this 'universe'

I think they could explore and make new games with Greek gods and a greek kind of story. It would work, but it just wouldn't be as good as something new and fresh so I agree.

Yea and it was weird how Kratos didn't actually die in the end he just pulled himself off the cliff and fell so for all we know he's going to make a comeback.

I don't think the franchise has been milked (too lazy to check release dates) , but if it was, they did a great job at deceiving me unlike GH and CoD.I for sure want a sequel to gow 3 , and it should be longer , not that I find it an issue as everybody seems to , but to give the sensation it's not dying.Until then we'll have gow 1,5 , ghost of sparta.

The makers of GoW3 want to take a break from this franchise. They made the ending what it was to keep it open for another GoW in the distant future.

Glad you enjoyed GOW3 and yeah it is an exceptional game. As far as a proper sequel goes there definitely wont be one since GOW3 pretty much wrapped up the whole revenge story. But Santa Monica said that there will be other stories to tell in the GOW universe so who knows. I just hope they don't start work on a new GOW soon, I much prefer a new IP from the team first. They are really talented people and want to see what new ideas they can conjure up.

Hs2 would be sweet. I'm not sure what they would do next. I also just beat this got my plat. The game is really awesome. Great fighting, feels brutal. Funny thing is this is really the only game of the series that I could see what was happening in the intense battles. I could also counter much easier. My fav weapon was deff the lion claws. The combos u can lay down wow These made Titan mode easy.

I think GOW3 tied up all the loose ends. Who else could they possibly have Kratos kill?
