For those of you so against another installment to the series there is a solution: you don't have to play it.

That is easy for you to say, you are not the developer/producer wanting to move as many units as possible
...at this rate, it will be the next tomb raider (they just kept making the same game over again as well)
Also, with the development costs as high as they are for a game like this, they cannot afford to take that risk
I am sure another game would still sell really well...but hard to say how many after that would (that would make 6 games that are exactly the same)
The game will sell. It's a hot franchise and given the success of the franchise I highly doubt Sony's going to end it now. Really, you think they're going to look at what a few users on a message board say and be all "well, we'd better not make GoW4, some folks on the Gamespot forums are gonna be upset if we do"? No, they're going to look at the bottom line, and that bottom line is that GoW has been an incredibly successful franchise. They're going to look at the franchise's near 12,000,000 units sold. They're gonna want to keep that going.
Of course they are not going to look here.
They will look at a very simple ratio...Profit Ratio on the game (development costs/revenue).
-with the ever increasing costs to make the game, they will have to sell more units now than they did on the PS2 to make it 'worth while'
I already said that another game would sell in my post
But the trick is to get out 'while the getting is good'
...better to leave some money on the table than to lose some
In the end, there will probably be 2 more games (another that sells well and one that does not...similar to countless series before this one)
But some of us can't help but be saddened by what we know is coming
