I don't have too much experience on PSP. I got mine last december, but I guess I can help you a bit.
1) They're not too different that those on a cellphone... If you text-messaging a lot, you'll get used to it soon
2) There are a lot of settings for the browser, you could check the on-line manuals for every feature.
3)Yep, All the media goes to the Memory Stick. You don't need special programs to download, but might use one for converting video to mp4. The PSP supports mp4 for video. I use Xvid4PSP and DVDVideosoft for converting, but there are a lot of programs. For MP3 put them in /MUSIC folder or /PSP/MUSIC. You could use the Sony Sonic Stage if you want to use the ATRAC3 format for audio... It's not that bad, actually.
4) I'm not familiar with a replacement plan :(
5) For games, it really depends on which genre do you like the most... You could try FFTactics if you're an RPG gamer like me
I hope this can help you
I have only had my PSP lite + slim for two weeks, but I have found out lots about it.
I found it hard to use the texting thing at the start, but you get used to it and now I post in the GS forums using the texting very quickly. Yeah if you want to put songs, videos or some demo's on to your PSP, you put it on the memory stick. You might need a converter but I try to avoid using those and just stick with gaming and pre-converted songs. I reccomend getting Tekken: Dark Ressurection, if you liked the graphics of Daxter you will LOVE the graphics of Tekken. :D
buy a case, i think crystal case is the best for psp slim, and a cleaning cloth
get silent hill origins, brave story new traveler and disgaea
to type use start button after every letter
well ive had my psp for...gosh i dont even know (its a PSP 1001) so i know a little bit about it :)
the web browser view style can be changed in the web browser with the little button 3rd from the right and then selecting "display mode", also, look up the controls for the browser, also, i find that opening more than one tab slows it down quite a bit (especially if some of the sites have pop ups), but its very usefull (by the way...allspark? were you searching transformers or something?)
anyway, you dont need any "special" software to download stuff from you psp to your computer or vis versa, all you need is a USB cable or , if you have a nicer computer, there should be a memory stick slot right there on the front of you tower, but dont go sticking you memory stick in there right away...you would probly need an adapter for it to fit properly
well the only thing i wont be able to help you with is the video side of things...i didnt exactly get it for that purpose
music can be simply used with a system software version of 2.82 or better (there is a way to do it right out of the box...but i never really tryed until 2.82
the games are pretty straight forward, i think you had that pretty much figured out, one thing worthwhile to know...newer games come with better software updates wich can open up new things to do on you psp like the flash player(i think?) or the location free player...
Pictures can be put on your psp from your computer or the internet (if you have trouble with this just PM me)
one last thing to know...if for whatever reason you want to delete everything from your memory stick ( and i mean EVERYTHING except your background pic) there is a format memory stick option in the settings
hope this helps you
One of the unfortunate things about the PSP is the use of the Memory Stick Pro Duo. Fortunately, they have gotten a lot cheaper, and have gained more storage. You can buy a 4 GB Pro Duo at Costco for about $60 bucks, which isn't too bad considering a 4 GB iPod Nano goes for $150. Of course, since you got the Daxter PSP Pack, you already have a 1GB card. You can compress a good amount of videos on it, and put up to 240 songs (more if you use WMA format).
Of course, the core of the PSP is the gaming. Get yourself a good little library of games, and you should be playing your PSP for a good while. I've had mine since June 2005, and I still play it. Trust me, you have made a wise investment.
Oh, and get the warranty. I never had to use mine, but one time, my friend put his PSP in his back pocket, then jumped into the seat of a large truck and broke the screen. He didn't have a warranty (mostly because he bought a Ceramic White PSP from Japan), and thus lost about $250 dollars. If something similar does happen to you, you can always take it back to Best Buy and replace it, which would save a lot of heartache.
