Anybody heard rumors about PlayStation 4 coming in the next 18 months?

What this all about

"A new Playstation 4 could be less than 18 months away according to a Sony insider. The device will include the same chipset as the current PS3 but where it will differ from the current model is in the drive bay and in the attachment area. It will also include an extensive software suite for the managing of content being streamed to a TV or Hi Fi source."

If anything this would be the media-centric device that was reportedly in the works a long ways back.  It's not PS4.emitsu97

maybe it will be compatible with the PS3.

Aha! I decided to read the article and the 2nd paragraph states:

"We have even looked at a Sony home server based on Playstation technology. This would allow consumers to connect home automation devices to the Sony server while also delivering online gaming and access to an extensive movie and music library" said one Sony source.

No PS4.

Sounds like the PSX thing they tried launching in Japan...Only this time built around the PS3 instead of PS2.spazzx625

that thing was expensive as hell, i think it wasn't that successful in Japan, if the new one cost like $1000 or something, it going to be a flop here as well.

I remember that.... It was mighty expensive. It wasn't even considered in EU. It will be a flop if Sony decide to go down that road again. :P

1) If it were true, it would be all over Google. It isn't.

2) If it were true, gaming websites would pick up on it. QJ.net hasn't dedicated an article to it yet.

3) If it were true, GameSpot would say something. Gamespot has actually gone ahead and declared this bit of news as "bogus". If anything, this "PS4" would be an "Elite" model. Something, by the way, that would irk me even more than the release of a new console. Significant hardware upgrades in the middle of a console's lifespan tick me off like none other.

4) If it were true, Sony would have axed the informant in cold blood already for leaking such information.

Exactly what I was going to say. Sony announced there plans for something like this before the PS3 even launched. This isn't going to be your main stream system upgrade. This is going for the full multimedia center center set up. Expect it to be over $1000. 

if this were true i would take my ps3 and a selgdehammer cut it into half and jump out of the window naked and never buy a console again.metroidjoe

But I would be interested in a sony av system which had a 5 disc changer to play blu-ray movies and PS3 games. I remember Ken Kutaragi speaking of such a av device awhile back. It was reported to be in the $2,000.00 price range. That is what I would call the ultimate av receiver!
