i held off this summer pruchasing ps3 based on the rumor that a 40 gb would come out for 400. well it came out and i bought one. the only real worry i had was it not having wi-fi... i'd much rather take that over b/c anyday.. i don't understand why b/c is such an issue. i have a ps2 (as i bet many ps3 adopters do as well). there is very little left on the ps2 library that i would go back to at this point. the whole point of the next-gen is that we move on. there are plenty of titles enough now to warrant this "moving on". i think the 40 gb ps3 is agreat value and is here ftw! i already know 4 freidns that plan on getting one for the holidays.

I had a 60gig, but I gave it to my bro and got a 40gig.All the memo slots and usb ports they stripped from it noone will miss. the wifi is still there. you don't need 4 usb ports, what will you ever use more then two for? I will agree on 1 point. I paid $600 from my first PS3 and no HDMI not even a component cable came with it, and the same with the 40gig. the could at least give you an hd cable of some short. I could care less about B/C as I have no PS2 games, but it does play PS1 games. The 40gig is a good step for sony, maybe they could down the line cut it down to $299, now that would sell some PS3's

usb: buy the rock band usb hub, u can get it sold separately. Bacwards compatability: use your ps2 with your old mem cards and such, more nostalgic that way, plus you have rumble for your older games. wifi: it does have wifi u idgit!

I totally agree with you. I got the 40gig with similar reasons. I'm so glad I bought it also, its an awesome machine.
My bad but I do think full BC is very very important. If old games are not good, why do they sell so well on the playstation store and on xbox marketplace?
I think the 40GB was a good move for Sony. Someone mentioned people not knowing a lot about the technology and that the first thing they see is the price, which I think is correct. The price is what everybody looks at first. Its the first thing that tells you if you're going to purchase it or not.
The 40GB is a great idea. It's at a sweet spot price wise, but it still has a HDD, a Blu Ray player, (one of the higher quality ones on the market in fact) and gives the people who don't value BC an option. Not being forced to pay more for a feature you have no use for seems like a good deal to me. But if the idea of upscaling and smoothing older PS2 games appeals to you, you can pay a little more for the 80GB. Options, they're really awesome.
I agree. I have a 40gb PS3 and I love it. I don't need 4 USB ports to be happy and 40gb's of memory is more than enough for what I use the console for.
yeah just got one on the 22nd. It rocks and complements my wii very well. Got Uncharted, down loaded some demos (took forever) and plan to get warhawk next. ChicaGO CITY
