Ok, so this game will be about an involving story, so it is perhaps a little unfair to judge it on a 10 minute demo. That said, the demo did confirm some of my fears.

Firstly, the majority of the game did indeed feel like a Quick Time Event. They were done well, but they were still felt as rigid as they do in other games. Also, making me press buttons to do the smallest of actions is not fun, it is annoying. The first time the guy wants to use his inhaler I think I had to press about 5 buttons and shake the controller - very lame. Also, when I wanted to slide between that gap, I had to press and hold 4 buttons - it was like playing twister with my hand... and totally pointless... why not let me just automatically slide through like in Uncharted 2..

The demo also failed to show and real branching paths, with the exception of the fact when you speak to the woman, one option results in you getting more information from her, but the game soon jumps back to the main path. And the option that you have to select to get this information???... It's "TRICK"... i mean, what does that even mean? A lot of the options you make are not clear until you have actually made them - when I clicked on Trick, for all I knew he was going to shout "LOOK BEHIND YOU!!!".

Graphically it's nice, but given the lack of interactivity, I would have expected better, There are occasional framerate stutters and the screen does tear on a few occasions. The walking controls take some getting used to as well, but it is not broken.

But all that said, the game MIGHT, just MIGHT, get away with all this, if A) it can give us a great story... B) give us REAL branching paths and make us feel like we are really part of an evolving world. I will give it another shot when the game gets released, albeit a rental.

I afree with this. I really hope that my actions will have real consequences (and i mean big, not just some silly things). But its exactly like you said - we cant see this in the demo. This demo is mainly for people to try how you control the game and how it works. And in full game it will be like this plus different decisions will lead to different paths. The demo is just a trailer i'd say :)

I think the QTE's can be a bit much at times(the whole inhaler thing), but most of the time it's a pretty good way to make a point and click style game more interactive. I've played through the hotel scene three times so far and each time has been different. I'm pretty sure that the scenarios will be much more influential in the whole game. For example during the CSI moment if you climbed up the hill and checked out the tire tracks later in the game you could use that data to your advantage.

No branching paths? I played a few different times just to experiment.... The first time I left money on the table, got the some answers from the hooker, and beat the hell out of the thug. The second time I left no money, got some answers from the hooker, left my card, and let the thug beat the hell out of me. The third time I kept my money, got the hooker to tell me to get the %&#^ out, and let the thug beat the hell out of her. Now, who's to say where that will really lead in the full game? Maybe since I left and let her get whooped she will be even less cooperative in the future. Maybe she gets killed by the thug and I lose her all together. Maybe since I beat the thug he comes back with a gun and tries to shoot me. Who knows, right? Hopefully, the full game will do plenty to alieviate these fears of yours.

While I'm not a huge fan of the point and click gameplay, the story and case solving have really caught my attention. I'll be getting the game, but I obviously know that it won't be an action packed marathon.

Yes you should never judge a game by it's demo and Yes this game isn't being praised for it's gameplay or non-linear MMO style exploration. Story, that's what I'm guessing the popularity of this title will focus on, but I know for 100000% certainty after the release, there's going to be a thread a day about how "It sucks" "Not worth the hype" "Gameplay is pointless!" "One big quick time event" "boring" "etc etc etc". Good day!

For me I wouldn't agree with this, a demo's purpose is to demonstrate what it has in store and tries to convince the consumer to buy the product. If a demo doesn't impress me much, then I won't shell out $60. This demo was good, but I didn't find it incredible, regardless of how nice it looks and how good the setting is, the va and the controls could of been much better.

To give this game a chance, I think for this one I'll have to check the reviews and see if it is really worth it. Sadly the demo didn't convince me 100%.

A better question would be: why are some people under the impression that their opinion is fact? You may not like it, but that doesn't mean it sucks, it simply means you don't like it.

And why exactly it sucks? Have you even played the demo? Also, have you played Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)? If you did do these two things and still dont like the game, then its just not your cup of tea. Go play other games.

Who in the heck told you it was supposed to be like Uncharted 2!? Whoever told you that was lying..... Unless they were talking about the graphics. ;) Anyway, this type of game is obviously not going to please everyone. Its not like its some universal genre like fighting or racing. Its keyed in to a very specific demographic. Apparently you aren't a part of that group.

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " Firstly, the majority of the game did indeed feel like a Quick Time Event. They were done well, but they were still felt as rigid as they do in other games"

I dont know what you mean by they feel RIGID. i had the time of my life with the game and its QTE controls . what a lousy comment . Its like saying why do i feel i am using my controller while playing uncharted 2 and its feels rigid. ARE YOU OKK?

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " Also, making me press buttons to do the smallest of actions is not fun, it is annoying:

Really. what If i say any game out there makes me press my controller buttons and its not fun. It is annoying. LOL. what a stupid comment.

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " The first time the guy wants to use his inhaler I think I had to press about 5 buttons and shake the controller - very lame. Also, when I wanted to slide between that gap, I had to press and hold 4 buttons:

i think you must be a guy who has no brains and no sense of observing music and atmosphere. A guy who just wants to shoot and kill people mindlessly in FPS and has no sense of story or characters either.

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " why not let me just automatically slide through like in Uncharted 2 "

Who says that would be fun. I say pressing buttons is more fun rather then just sliding like uncharted 2.

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " The demo also failed to show and real branching paths, with the exception of the fact when you speak to the woman, one option results in you getting more information from her, but the game soon jumps back to the main path. And the option that you have to select to get this information???... It's "TRICK"... i mean, what does that even mean? A lot of the options you make are not clear until you have actually made them - when I clicked on Trick, for all I knew he was going to shout "LOOK BEHIND YOU!!!".

the game is not Just about branches dude. i dont know how you can even notice such unnecessary things and ignore the mind blowing gameplay , mucis, graphics and sound. What does Trick mean? go to Dictionary.com i think you didnt study in school. And for the branches why dont you grow some in your room. Trees and stuff you know.

The TrueSpin odd guy says: " Graphically it's nice, but given the lack of interactivity, I would have expected better: What ? given the lack of interactivity. what do you mean. there are so many things to interact. I even say the Fridge by interacting with it. Knocked each and every door in the sleazy place. Did you reallly played Heavy rain demo????

The TrueSpin odd guy says: "But all that said, the game MIGHT, just MIGHT, get away with all this" LOL . Really. I am expecting a 9.5 on gamespot . A 9 at worst. Not below that. You can keep your hope with yourself. we dont need them.

And why dont you just go and implement all these things in a Heavy Rain wanna cheap a ss game Crap them since i dont want it to be changed. its PERFECT.

The blind defense of this game is just as rampant as the attacks. Quit getting on people for pointing the flaws in the demo, when many of you are ready to give this game of the year without playing it also. If the man thinks the demo is meh, he thinks the demo is meh. Recognize your own hypocrisy in blind defense, and save the fanboy comments for the games release in a few weeks. There were obviously both interesting and disappointing aspects to the demo. Learn to see both. Also, the people who claim that only idiots aren't interested in this game need to get a grip. Many of us could make the same claims about the narrative power of the first Bioshock, or the unique artistic appropriation in Demons Souls. This game has generated a flood of fighting and name calling over opinions. Let's try to have a conversation about this game which evolves past blind adherence and name calling. I'll start. Valid complaints: Holding multiple buttons for simple actions, holding R2 to walk, hit and miss voice acting, some awkward animations, QTE's for mundane actions. Valid praise: Beautiful graphics, interesting plot pieces, coolest glasses I have ever seen, intense atmosphere, and the most interesting QTE fight I've ever experienced. Point by point objective reviewing is going to be more helpful to anybody curious about this game than the way in which we have been currently handling these discussions. I'm willing to rethink my approach to these dialogues. Is anybody else? All the best, Kyle Jay Dunn

All the best, Kyle Jay Dunnedthetinker
Well put, Kyle. I am totally pumped for this game and can't wait for its release. However, I agree with your complaints and praises. I'd also like to add the fact that it is such a pain in the @$$ to change directions while walking without going in a complete circle and the fact that the dialogue (in my humble opinion) is a lot more hit than miss. As far as only inteligent people liking this game goes I really think anyone can enjoy it as long as they have patience for the lack of any steady flow of action. Bioshock at least had a ton of awesome gameplay to get you from one story bit to the next.... Man, I love that game!

[QUOTE="edthetinker"]The blind defense of this game is just as rampant as the attacks. I'll start. I agree with Kyle. Good points, sir. Oh, and Bioshock is amazing. I enjoyed the demo, but I agree with your complaints. Still, the demo definitely upped my anticipation for the full game.

I actually thought this game was going to be "Meh" before the demo. Instead, the demo has made me decide to get this game day 1. I was blown away by the atmosphere in this game. I think until I actually tried it for myself I had no idea what it was going to be like. I cannot wait to play this game through.

This demo was amazing, I was really unsure about this game but as soon as I finished the demo I went and pre-ordered it straight away, I couldn't wait for the 26th any more, this game looks amazing and I can't wait to play the full game.

It reminded me of Shenmue. I'll probably get it.

I think some people need to look up what a QTE is. Rotating the stick to the left or right to knock on a door or get out of the car isn't a QTE. Only QTE's were the fight with the abusive client and when trying to get up the muddy hill with Norman.

10 minute demo that I've played for 3 hours.
