Anyone else gonna play or are already playing their PS3 on an old tube TV?

I understand the difference in sound quality is a major part of next gen but graphics look fine on a tube as long as it's 20+ inches so you can make out some detail, Is it worth getting and HDTV and 7.1 surround sound system to fully experience the PS3? Or will my 15 year old RCA 21" tube do fine? I mean is it not worth getting the PS3 without the tech to fully enjoy it?

It gives true blacks and excellent colours but it's not anything special at all should I make the jump to a 21" HDTV before I get a PS3?

hmmm, well i played my ps3 in standard definition for a little while.  It looks fine, i mean you can appreciate the design details and such, but really i will tell you, it's a truly different experience playing in high def and you can see that this is what the ps3 was made to look like.  I would say, you go ahead and use your ps3 on your 15 year old tv for now if you don't mind it, but i would also say that you plan on getting a high def tv sometime soon after.  Number 1 it's an amazing experience and number 2, you have had that tv for 15 year, which of course is a fairly long time, especially when there is a completely new, great technology, high definition, out in full circle.  Just for an upgrade's sake it may not be such a bad idea, but its up to you.

I'm told it mkes a huge difference.  Maybe play your games now in SD, then get an HDTV later and play it again then.

I dunno 'bout 15-year-old TV, but it'd be better if you have a 20" or 27" flat-screen tube and best with component plugs.....theyre only about 200bucks or so these days. actually I still liked my 7yold 27" flat screen, but the 32" HD I got is better. but no you dont really need an HDTV for your PS3, it will look fine.

 - Dont believe me, ask her.

Well I only have a 27" Panasonic Tau Flat screen with component. The picture's good, but it's not HD. Oh and it was made in 2001 I think.

Lol, I had that TV. It was a pretty damn good set for being SD. Now I have a Aquos 1080p set which is fantastic but LCD's don't quite have that crisp picture when panning like a CRT. Slight motion blur with LCD's are the norm but they are still worth the jump.

I can't imagine playing on the Tau with resistance. You are losing 30% of the screen and all the detail.

What is average?  I would say a tv from 1994 is WAY below average and is going to have a PQ worse than 99% of the televisions in the US.

I don't think watching the PS3 in HD is essential, but to fully enjoy it ........ (Turns around to see 40" HDTV in the room) ............ nevermind, it is essential, if you can, get an HDTV, it's worth it.

I've played it on my mates 40" HDTV and it looks amazing. Than i return home and play on my tube 80cm TEAC and its still pretty good just not AMAZING....

I would think for most people the biggest issue is the cost of the PS3 and the cost of a new HDTV all at once. For me I went with getting the PS3 now, the tv can come later.....

If you are going to use ur old tv then i guess you would get the best out put that TV can provide.  It is expencive to go all the way to get the HD tv, surroundsound and the ps3 however I have used it at a friends house and everything looks fantastic on HD.  In my oppinion if you wanna PS3 go for it, besides bigger better longer games come available. To appriciate the pure quality this machine works at, then yes its best to get a HD TV.

Im in the same boat because I wasnt sure if I should get the ps3 without a HDTv because you loose the essance of all that excellence.  After playing on it for real then it came to me PS3 and HD are a must.  At the end of the day its up to you...

since getting my ps3 i've felt that graphics on a standard telly look grainy, so i've gone for an hd ready one.  there was a feature in this months playstation mag about them and showed the difference between standars and hd.  i just hope its as good as it seems...
