currently i have 2 SIXAXIS (not DS3) controllers for my PS3. But when i tried to switch on my PS3 earlier today i pushed the PS button and nothing worked. So i tried connecting it to the PS3 with the USB cable, then push the PS button but still nothing happens except the red lights on the top of controller start flashing about 5 or 6 times.

So i used thepower button on the PS3 to switch on and then pressed the PS button, had to wait for the red lights to flash a few times (normally it connects instantly if connected with USB) then it connected to the PS3. By now I assume that the PS3 and the controoler are now in sync, so i switched the PS3 off and tried again but still no luck, the controller won't switch the PS3 on.

After that i thought maybe the controller is completely out of charge but still it didn't work. Now I'm not sure if this is a problem with the PS3 or the controllers because whenever i try to control the PS3 with the usb cable plugged into the controller it will work, but as soon as i disconnect the cable the controller switched off, so i can't connect it wirelessly AT ALL. Pushing the PS button will then make the red lights on the controller flash a couple of times again and then switch back off.

BTW, i've tried using both controllers, many different USB cables and i've tried resetting each controller too.

Anyone else had this problem?

I think you have to register them to your ps3. Dont worry only should take 5 minutes at most.

So the controller was in sync with the usb cable attached then you powered off before unhooking the usb cable?

If so just turn on the ps3 then turn on the controller it should sync in a few seconds. If that doesn't work hook it up with the usb cable then unplug the usb cable and make sure its working before shutting it off and it should be fine.

I've tried that, I've switched on the PS3, connected the controller with the usb cable, used the controller to make sure it works, then when i take out the cable the controller just switches off and doesn't sync with the PS3 anymore.

Does anyone have the problem of their controller temporarily disconnecting sometimes? I was playing midnight club when I lost complete control of my car for a few seconds. I couldn't do anything but watch the car scrape against a highway barrier. The same thing happened a couple of times in BioShock where I would be fighting some splicers and then all of a sudden have no control while I get attacked.

Well, you did well troubleshooting. The only thing left is to test someone else's controllers and see if they stay paired with your PS3. The PS3 also has a cap of 7 Bluetooth devices it can pair with. I highly doubt you have 7 bluetooth devices connected to your PS3. Also, if you pair the controllers with another PS3 and then bring them back to yours, you'll have to resync. I'm sure you know of this as well though. If nothing that I mentioned helps, it seem like it would be the PS3 since you tried two controllers already. It's really odd. Call Sony and have them help you troubleshoot it. The final test you should do though (which is also the biggest headache) is to back up the system, and format the drive. Start from scratch. It may just be a glitch somewhere in the firmware. That's all I could tell you.

Just found a way to fix the problem, basically what happened is that the PS3 would not sync with the controllers at all, even though they recognised a blutooth headset :? So i tried to hard reset the PS3 (the power switch at the back) and now it works fine, why this isn't on their troubleshooting guide is beyond me, I missed out on a whole days worth of gaming.
