Currently, 7 of the top 10 PS3 games are exclusives...not bad me thinks. I expect this trend to continue. Only the best of the best multiplatform games will make the list that should be dominated by PS3 exclusives...

sigh...

I mean why can't people just think of games as they are, why do we have to make ourselves feel better about our purchase, why do we feel the need to compare it to other systems that are different.

Can't we just appreciate games regardless of exclusivity or not?

Even hideo kojima is sick of people asking his game if it will come to the 360, if u made a game and someone was interviewing you about that game wouldn't you want them to ask question about the design of the game, instead of how a certain system influenced the game, and why did you choose that system, its almost insulting to the designer to ask these questions, fogetting their vision and dreams, and instead throwing the fuel on the flames of the system 'war', which is ultimately just for hits for the blogurnalist.

Ummmmm... because we want to feel justified in our purchase....

i bought a PS3 because i wanted to play Final Fantasy XIII and MGS4.. i sold the 360 i had because i was under the impression years ago that they were going to be PS3 exclusives... now i see the error in my ways.. and i could have save ohhhhhhh bout 300$ if i just kept the 360. i dont regret my purchase but now i wana feel like i made it for a good reason.

soo yea....

justification.. thats the reason.

/rant

P.s- and thats a good reason too, and anyone that says it isnt is too.. lets just say not smart so i dont get deleted, to understand why it is.. just like we all know the ps3 is a superior "System" than the 360 and anyone that refutes that is just too dense to explain why it is.

ok, so if hideo kojima comes up to you and starts talking about his games and future projects, would you say to his face "keep it as a ps3 exclusive". Would you honestly say that? Don't you think that if you said that to his face he would be dissapointed that you more excited about feeling 'justified' with your purchase than the prospect of his next game?

i am not saying that this is exactly what you are doing, i am using it as an analogy to explain that games should be appreciated for what they are, not for what they are found on.

I mean, that is right of us to pay special attention to a game that is an exclusive to the system? Many deveolpers work very hard on their games, and just because its not an exclusive we give it less attention then it deserves, are you saying that this is justified because of the insecurity of your purchase?

Oand you ps, so you are saying that is dumb for people to not care about justifying the purchasae of their system because they are appreciating the games that they are playing. Instead of feeding the ego of their consumerism, by drowning your insecurities with such superficial ideals. Is that what you are saying.

I can understand a consumer feeling insecure about their purchase, but is it the right priority for the gamer to be thinking about this, instead of looking for grand experiences on whatever platform they are on. I just think that it is backward to have purchased a games console and then spend a majority of its lifespan 'defening' its purchase instead of enjoying the experiences that can be delivered.

Buy the console of your choice for your own reasons...no one can say your reasons aren't good enough or correct.

If you bought it for exclusives then yeah you should be happy about the ps3 list.

Non exclusive games are awesome.. everyone gets to enjoy them. Exclusives are nice if you own the system.. but if a company takes the time to make the game for each system properly, and doesn't do a rushed port with lots of bugs, then it doesn't matter. A good game is still good weather its an exclusive or not.

Agree with you. People should start to practice this i mean of course you have a base for purchasing a console mine was MGS4. Be happy when your playing games it doesnt matter if its exclusive or not.

Wow, this topic turned into a fail right after the initial post. Why don't understand why people have to be so negative and put eachother down just because they are excited about something the other doesn't understand is exciting. Honestly, I like to know my console has good exclusives. It doesn't justify my purchase - MGS4 already did that - and I don't need to know this to feel good about myself or none of that crap. Its just good to know. If you don't wanna know about then stop reading and go away. People who leave rude/negative comments like that may think they sound intelligent but really only sound like *** holes. :P

lol because the gaming industry is like that now. everyone and every gaming company save some are all out to prove which console/ game is better. this came to be arguably after Sony entered the game industry. When a certain industry begins to think about money, all passion is lost in the process. you can kick and scream all you want, but gaming is like sports betting, you can't just watch and enjoy the game, you have to bet money and win so you can rub in other people's faces. it.s everywhere.

That was a bad analogy. Betting isn't even legal where I live and in a lot of places. Because of that, I'm able to love/hate any team/sports/players, no regards to how much money I win or lose. Don't you think that's the way it's supposed to be?

i think exclusives are dying out, they haven't been heavy console pushers for the most part there extremely expensive to produce and in the long run not good for the publisher. with extra work multiplats always outsell exclusives plus exlusives usually ahve long dev cyclesm, partially to keep them fresh and from coinciding with other exclusive releases.

nonetheless, you're still hating on one team/player and rooting for another, the competition in sports is the same in the gaming industry nowadays. there's hardly just "enjoying" the games.

well i play the games i want..

however if the game is an exclusive i will try it out no matter what.. there is something about playing games that are just on one console i feel obligated to try them..

but i if every game was multiplatform i would have still bought a ps3.. i will play every exclusive but they weren't in the debate when i was deciding to get the console..

Exclusives matter thats why. If they didn't we would just have one console and not a competition of 3. It doesn't make someone a fanboy if they are happy that the console of their choice has really good exclusives. I for one love Sony for their exclusives and this is why I have always went with PS. Why can't people stop complaining about people who praise the exclusives for their console? Not everyone who loves their console of choice is a system wars whore.

All this exclusivity BS wasn't a factor back when it was only Playstation and N64. It was more like, you go to your friends house and your like, "awesome you got this game. Let's play it". Now people declare alligiance to one console to feel good about themselves. It's pathetic and annoying.

Because while multiplat's are important to any system. Exclusive's are what define a system and set's it apart form the other console's out on the market.

I'd rather look at it this way: Sure, making a game multiplat earns more money for devs and publishers, but it doesn't tip any market scales for console manufacturers. When it comes down to it in a lot of cases a console is only as good as its exclusives. We all have a preferred console. But what if the majority of the population leans to one console? The others stop selling as well and eventually don't get any games made for them. Eventually they will stop selling all together and be canned. So then you'd have one console. Just one. Sure, others would pop up here and there to try their luck but fail, but ultimately you'd be stuck with just the one ruling the market all because if had all the fun games and the majority of the population liked it best. Think for a second what console fits that bill today........ The Wii. Eeewwwwwww!!!!! Exclusives FTW!!!!!

All this exclusivity BS wasn't a factor back when it was only Playstation and N64. It was more like, you go to your friends house and your like, "awesome you got this game. Let's play it". Now people declare alligiance to one console to feel good about themselves. It's pathetic and annoying.

mD-
That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. First off there were console wars since SNES and Sega Genesis and people always agued about exclusives then. "Who's better Sonic or Mario?" lol. There's no comparison for the PS and N64. That's why no one argues over which was better. It was blatantly obvious. The PS1 was actually a revamp of what was originally supposed to be an upgrade for the N64 until Sony decided to just make it into their own console. Anyway, this exclusivity BS has been going on forever. Oh... and Fanboys are annoying. :P

i personally don't care, but i see how high exclusive game ratings affect the tug of war between consoles and how they may sway those buyers which find scores/reviews relevant. Ultimately, whether you care for scores or not, awards are never a detriment to the success of the company.

[QUOTE="Renzokucant"]

Ummmmm... because we want to feel justified in our purchase....

i bought a PS3 because i wanted to play Final Fantasy XIII and MGS4.. i sold the 360 i had because i was under the impression years ago that they were going to be PS3 exclusives... now i see the error in my ways.. and i could have save ohhhhhhh bout 300$ if i just kept the 360. i dont regret my purchase but now i wana feel like i made it for a good reason.

soo yea....

justification.. thats the reason.

/rant

P.s- and thats a good reason too, and anyone that says it isnt is too.. lets just say not smart so i dont get deleted, to understand why it is.. just like we all know the ps3 is a superior "System" than the 360 and anyone that refutes that is just too dense to explain why it is.

adizorz

ok, so if hideo kojima comes up to you and starts talking about his games and future projects, would you say to his face "keep it as a ps3 exclusive".

I just think that it is backward to have purchased a games console and then spend a majority of its lifespan 'defening' its purchase instead of enjoying the experiences that can be delivered.

the thing is i spent 650 CAD (and 169 to fix my ylod) on a ps3 cause i assumed its the only place i can play mgs4 and ff13
now that ff13 is on the 360 and if mgs4 went over too then i could have saved 300+ dollars
so exclusives do sell systems because they a big part of th reason for buying one

thats because ps3 exclusives are amazing, and make people buy the console only hearing about mgs4, infamous, or killzone 2.

don't be stupid people. exclusivity is a big part of videogames, you can say "oh well i just wanna pway my games" but thats not how everyone is. your opinion is right, but there is more than one truth. they are right too. two ways of looking at the same thing.

people want there system to be 'the' system. when this happens more people join the community, more peoples opinions are read, more people buying games. if you "just like to pway games", and are on this site, most of the time you have, or had; both systems. i'm no hardcore gamer, i just like sony's exclusive companies, so when i here of exclusivity, i hear quality, when i hear multiplatform or 360 port, i think microsoft based companies, which i have a hard time liking, especially because i still dont trust the quality of most western video games..which is the basis of microsoft

most of you go from topic to topic just to say that. like it makes you feel like a better person for not caring. lol, its actually a rather selfish comment when concerning an analytical topic of exclusivity.

Yeah, man. That's why I bought a PS3. The exclusive games are just amazing. Killzone, MGS4, and Resistance are my favs, but now there's inFamous and it is SICK!

exclusives matter because they create competitiveness. think about it. if there were no exclusives there would be only one system with crappy games.

[QUOTE="adizorz"]

/rant

goddamn people piss me off sometimes...

shabab12

Exclusives matter thats why. If they didn't we would just have one console and not a competition of 3. It doesn't make someone a fanboy if they are happy that the console of their choice has really good exclusives. I for one love Sony for their exclusives and this is why I have always went with PS. Why can't people stop complaining about people who praise the exclusives for their console? Not everyone who loves their console of choice is a system wars whore.

Iniesta maybe, but Xavi? meh.

You must not watch enough football then because Xavi is the driving force behind Barca. There's a reason why he won the Euro 08 player of the tournament award. Did you not see the perfect ball he placed for Messi's goal in the final?

Wow, this topic turned into a fail right after the initial post. Why don't understand why people have to be so negative and put eachother down just because they are excited about something the other doesn't understand is exciting. Honestly, I like to know my console has good exclusives. It doesn't justify my purchase - MGS4 already did that - and I don't need to know this to feel good about myself or none of that crap. Its just good to know. If you don't wanna know about then stop reading and go away. People who leave rude/negative comments like that may think they sound intelligent but really only sound like *** holes. :PNephilim83

your right, i got upset and got carried away sorry...

Wow...lots of hate in this board...that wasn't the intended purpose at all.

I'm all for multiplatform games, but the fact of the matter is most of the multiplatform games are designed with the lowest common denominator (DVD space) in mind...

I like to know that certain games are CUSTOM BUILT for the console I bought. It also adds to the value of the console knowing that the CUSTOM BUILT games also happen to be the highest quality and highest rated games.

I can't understand why PS3 exclusives, in general, don't sell that many copies when compared to the 360 exclusives. I don't really care to be honest, but I'm just curious...especially since the majority of them nowadays are of such high quality.

yeah sorry about that, i didn't think people would care what i wrote anyway...

Yeah exclusives does sometimes make you feel better aboutthe purchase of that game, that they are sort of tailored to the system, and whatever you get is a limitation of the system itself and not some other system.

I do like ps3 exclusives the most, but not enough for me to actually buy them, i don't like shooters, infact the most shooterish game i have bought is mgs4.

Infamous has too many bugs...

Ratchet and clank demo was too damn easy...

Valkyria chronicles demo is fairly boring.

Killzone 2 sometimes has terrible animations, for a game that tries very hard to be something great to look at it, it actually fails in some regards even compared to uncharted. I also don't like shooters. hell even haze sometimes had better animations...i am not talking about the death animations they are great.

Uncharted is a shooter.

I rented folklore, loved it.

Little big planet doesn't really offer much to me.

Love flower, relaxing.

Ridge racer 7 is alot of fun.

as you may have already concluded, i am a very picky gamer.

I don't see how it is insulting to question a developer about exclusivity when that developer chose to produce an exclusive game. In fact it sounds sort of disingenuous for a developer who makes exclusive games to complain about people asking him about it. If a developer had some sort of moral objection to people focusing on exclusivity over game content then that developer should refuse to produce exclusive games.

i know how the way things are, and most of you who are disagreeing with me are right, that is the way things are. BUT, is that how they should be? that is what i am trying to say...adizorz

Exclusivity shouldn't trump content when discussing a particular game. But for gaming as a whole, exclusivity is a very, very important part and has been since the Colecovision took on Atari. Without the branding that exclusivity provides you would just have one generic console. That's actually a scary thought for people who are fans of creativity. I would think that it would be a particularlyscary thought for people who are picky about their games.

Who said people who love their exclusives can't enjoy the games? We do enjoy them but we don't have to talk about it all day. Bragging about exclusives isn't very mature though.

The thing I love about the PlayStation brand is how unique and quirky some of the titles are.

You would never see a game like Flower or The Last Guy or even Fat Princess on any other console...

Like I said before, exclusives...they give each console their own unique identity.

yes i agree with what you said, i geuss what you quoted me on can seem like i am talking about the industry, and not the gamer.

I meant it from the perspective of the gamer.
