i personally prefer if a game is shorter like heavenly sword because u actually remember what the story is about and it keeps u interested. certain games like oblivion i get bored of because there too long and don't really keep u interested and on top of all that some games i don't even finish. I understand that the longer a game is the more u get for ur money but i really dont see a difference if u don't finish the game anyway. i have 9 games and only finished heavenly sword so far and can't wait for a sequal.

Anyone else feel this way, its kinda weird but i think it makes sense.

actually GTA is debatable on this topic because i played GTA SA 6 hours straight at one time. And also every mission takes u a step further into the story so its always addicting.

No way. guess it is personal preference, but i like to immerse myself in a long game like final fantasy and milk it for everything the devs put into it. I don't own that many games, but the games I do own I play the hell out of. I only played oblivion for 15 minutes and couldn't stand it. A good long game is ideal to get your money's worth.

it depends, if a game can manage to keep a good pace and a interesting story then I prefer long games, I dont mind short games either, as long as they have alot of replay value but Heavenly sword has no replay value imo and was way too short.

Uncharted is great example of replay value, it has unlockables that keeps you coming back, just like Achievements, more games should use that

lol i had oblivion for pc.. probably half way.. i started using cheats just cause it was kinda getting boring.. it was still an innovative game though thats for sure
i guess i prefer games with a good story line or gameplay/replay value.. discarding its length.. :x

It all depends on the game. I love Call of Duty 4. The story is somewhat short, but the quality and the presentation are absolutely amazing and beautiful. ...And the online more than makes up for replay value, as well as the game mode cheats you unlock by picking up intel like Ragtime Warfare (Gameplay is 2x speed, grainy picture, music is ...well, ragtime).

Usually games like Heavenly Sword last you about 6 hours and you would enjoy it but at the same time is it worth sixty dollars? I recentally beaten Heavenly Sword and was pleased by a lot the game had to offer and played Hell Mode and beat that in another 6.5 hours.... All in all it only lasted a half of a day and I felt cheated.

Depends .. short games can be good or bad, and long games the same. Anything with a compelling story for me .. or just extremely fun .. ie GTA ..

If a game keeps me entertained throughout, it doesn't matter how long it is.

... as long as I can get at least 10 hours out of it. :P

I don't like short games, but I don't like really long games either unless it's a WRPG (like Oblivion or Baldur's Gate). For instance I love the Final Fantasy series (before the PS2 era) but I found near the end of them I just had enough and started to get bored.

Depends on the pacing of the story, if it's long just for the sake of being long and carries on tediously, then I hate it. Although, if it's long and paced well, I love it. I mean if a short game tries to cram 100+ hours of story into 6 hours (wow, 100+ hours! O_o) then well... You should see where I'm going with this.

Nope, longer games is better. and Oblivion is so short, but if you want to do all the guilds then that takes along time.

LOL hell no, that's what sucks about a lot of good games, they're way too damn short, sometimes when you play a great game you feel like you never want it to end, and that's when replay value comes in, but they longer the game the better especially when they're 60 bucks PLUS tax which comes to like 70 bucks for a game that you can beat in one play session of like 6 hours or so, that sucks big time, games like oblivion are the best at prolonging the series and game time you'll spend literally over 200+ hours playing the original game alone, and then the expansions too that's awesome, but ya long games are winners in this little topic cause there's just no point in buying games that are 70 bucks and only playable for 6 HOURS?!either way short games are renters and long games are buyers, in my opinion

A game like MGS4 I want it to be like 25-30 hours, with cutscenes included. It took me 23 hours to finish MGS3 for the first time. and thats with the cutscenes.

Yes, I also enjoy shorter games and usually finish them more times than the ones that last around 15 hrs because it's somewhat easier to come back at any time to play them.

The problem is that a 10 hour game shouldn't cost 60 dlls.

Being a student and full-time worker I can feel for both sides of the argument. I recently have beaten a few games but while I stock up on new games, older, much more time consuming games like oblivion and devil summoner go unbeaten. I'd still love to tap into those games and spend days at a time on them, but I have to keep up with what's important first/ Also, having a personal life like going to parties and hanging out doesn't give me much time for it, but the shorter games seem to fit just right in my schedule. Or online games since you can just jump into a match.

Long game, short game, it doesn't really matter to me.

What is important is that the game has an interesting story, rock solid gameplay, and proper pacing.

Two examples of excellent pacing are: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Neither of these games were "long" in any regard. Uncharted took me about 10 hours on hard the first time through. Call of Duty took me about 7 tops. Yet these experiences stay with me because they were so action packed and told their respective stories so well...Each level had a very specific purpose and pushed the interesting stories forward.

Final Fantasy VII is a "long" game that takes at least 30-40 hours to complete, yet the pacing is also excellent. From hour 1 up until 25-30 hours into the game, you are meeting new characters and learning new things. The story is many layers of depth and each mission and side quest further fleshes out the story. Everything remains interesting...

An example of a PS3 game with relatively poor pacing is Resistance: Fall of Man. I found the middle levels to be quite boring as I lost track of what was going on. I was going from one base to another trying to find the "mystery" of the Chimera. The cutscenes looked like slideshows and the voice work felt monotonous. That doesn't make the gameplay or level design bad, but it does disjoint the story. If anyone can remember what happened in the middle of Resistance, I'd be quite impressed.

Uncharted on the other hand, has a very cohesive story and flows from one chapter to the next. I can recall the events of where I went and what I did for the vast majority of the adventure.

Depends on my mood when I'm playing I suppose. I thoroughly enjoy Final Fantasy games & have milked VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 & XII for every little detail & more. But sometimes, I don't wanna sit through & find the little details so I jump to an action paced game like Devil May Cry 3, the God of War series or even Burn Out, etc.to get things moving.

I'll take a 40 hour game over a 8 hours game ANYTIME. I remember what happened last time I played, even if it was two weeks ago, and bigger is always better. :P If there's optionnal quests for up to 200 hours of gameplay, I'll be buying the game on day one!

Games these days are too short and too easy. Damn casuals, they're ruining our games that were so good 10 years ago. :P

No matter how long it is, I just won't give those sandbox games any shot.

Quality over Quantity forever. Luckily, JRPGs have quality and are not sandbox type.

FFIII for SNES was $70 on release. Love that game.

Anyway, my tastes have changed as I've gotten older and priorities change. Time is more valuable in other aspects of life. If a game is engaging and entertaining from start to finish I don't care how long or short it is. Today's gamer seems to be interested in content and not quality. WoW's subscription base is great proof of this.

I'm interested in both. I'll buy a game that has great gameplay AND will last me very long. That's why I rent games like Heavenly Sword. It's a great game, but too short for me to buy it. If the gameplay is average but there's 200 hours of gameplay, I'll probably get bored by the 20th hour, so I wouldn't play the 180 hours left. No point in buying it.

I work and don't have nearly as much time to play games as I did some years ago. But that doesn't change anything, I just play a game for longer. I have 200 hours in FFXII and I'm still playing it a year later.
