I was totally looking forward ti that game with an interesting and fresh new concept ever since I was able to play it for about 45 minutes on GamesCom 2012. The Sony Employee there told me the release would be some time in 4Q 2012 around christmas, so I'm really surprised it's out and available already.

But when I read the review here on GameSpot who gave it a 5.0 for mediocre I was a bit shocked. Then I checked it in the PSN and saw it's only about 12 so I guess it's a bit unfair to rate it by full price game standards what this review in my eyes clearly did. On the other hand, today I also checked IGN's rating and they gave it a solid 8.0

It's always a bit strange when you see huge and massive differences like this, isn't it?

Well, anybody who already has bought it, what are your thoughts about this and if you happen to own the game, how is it? Which review fits it better?

If you like weird, you'll like Tokyo Jungle. It's got a lot of problems (graphics, music, toxicity system, weird design of the 'open' world) but it's still fun to play. I've been enjoying it.

I've not played the game yet, but i've watched some video reviews on youtube and, despite the japanese weirdness, the game seems to be surprisingly good.

Look at several reviews and gameplay videos and you'll be able to more or less tell if its a good game for you or not. Sometimes the reviewer can be nitpicky about some things that wouldn't bother you. And since you got to demo it yourself then it shouldn't be a difficult decision.

Picked it up on release day but only got around to playing just now...

It's definitely a unique title and one that you'll either love or hate. Personally, I'm with IGN on this one. Can't wait to play it again! :D

No I don't find it weird. Separate people have separate opinions. Shocker.

It is supposedly a little like Dark Souls but with animals. Watch the Quick Look over at Giant Bomb.

It's a niche title, so don't take anyone else's word for it except your own- research, research, research!

I don't know about ratings but I'm liking the game pretty well. Mostly unlocking animals at the moment took me a while to figure that out.

Well, it wasn't a finished thing back then.

Anyways, I got it now :)

And absolutely no regrets. It's indeed like a mix of Dark Souls and Metanimal Gear Solid :D

And indeed, unlocking new animals, making them stronger and stronger over time is really fun. Also looking forward on how the story will play out. And especially looking forward to unlock Dinosaurs.....I wonder what the gameplay with them will be xD

The concept sounds cool, but the gameplay looks terribly repetitive and boring. Not surprised it got mediocre scores to be honest.

If it wasn't for the guys on the Giant Bomb Bombcast talking about the game - and saying some pretty positive things - I wouldn't have even heard about this game. (I really miss The Hotspot podcast.) It sounds quirky, and like the sort of game that you'll either love or hate. It also sounds repetitive, but in a way that wouldn't necessarily get boring, since you might feel compelled to keep going back to the game, trying to last a little longer each time, chasing after unlocking particular animals, etc. And, from all accounts, it lends itself to either being played just an hour or so at a time, while still possibly being addictive enough to suck you into playing it and losing track of time. Which is really cool. I just wish it was cheaper. I mean, I know it was a full price retail release in Japan, but as a download for a western audience, I think $10 would've been a better price point. But then, I feel that almost every game on PSN is overpriced that way. I mean, there are a lot of AAA titles you can buy for the same $15 they're charging for some of those smaller, indie games. Yeah, they're older games, but still... It'd be way easier to make impulse purchases on PSN games if they were all $10 or less. At $15, I start thinking, "For the same price, or a few dollars more, I can buy Batman: Arkham City, or Dark Souls, or any of a dozen other games that likely offer a longer, richer experience - and an actual physical copy that I can later sell or trade-in for money back! - than Braid or Dead Nation." That's held me back from buying a lot of PSN games. But I digress. Tokyo Jungle: sounds interesting, possibly way cool, but it's a little too pricey for the gamble. And given that it's one of those games you're either going to love or not, the wide range of ratings on the game doesn't really surprise me.

I'm a champion of weird games, it's where we get some of the best mainstream fads down the line. Who could have predicted "Mr Mosquito"? Or "Katamari", which went HUGE? I think strange stuff needs to be nourished, and encouraged. There's far too much homogenization in gaming today, and that's a shame when you consider that this medium is only restricted to the imagination.

I say, if it's something which appeals to you, sod the reviews. Long as it ain't busted technically, after that I have little use for reviews or other people's opinions, by-and-large, If I had kept a closed mind, I would have missed out on the Zen of "REEL Fishing", and "Super Monkeyball". Two of the best gaming experiences I have ever had in over 30 years of home gaming.

Like it? Buy it. Play it. It looks bizarre, and though I don't have interest in it personally, I encourage your own strange cultivation. Perhaps when you've played it a bit, you can tell us in better detail what the attraction and ensuing affair brought to you. There's plenty of chatter on the Internet about "Call of Duty"... Discussing a game like this can only be a good thing!
