Can you blame them?
If they hold true to the original FF7 and just redo the graphics, they'll be accused of being money grubbing :::::insert expletive here::::: and have a whole legion of critics.
On the other hand of they update the graphics and make tweaks to the story and/or battle system, they'll be accused of messing with one of the greatest games in PlayStation history and have a whole legion of critics.
Personally, I'd be happy with just an awesome game in FF13.
Although I would be happy if they chose to remake FF7. .Either pathway. And I promise no criticism. (from me at least :P )
I'd like to see XI remade into an offline game ... so I can play it..AnFangs_Endes
Same here. Maybe it'll have a better story than...no, it WILL have a better story than XII.:P
remaking a PS1 game on a PS3 is hard, because it's 3D so they'll have to port the game to the current generation engine, and seeing how muchthe architecture between PS1 and PS3 differ
they will probably have to really remake the whole thing completely, not just improving graphics; therefore they'll wait untilFFXIII to be completed first
oh and just consider how much effort they made from simply transfering the FFXIII project from PS2 to PS3, not to mention from PS1 to PS3
just my 2 cents

When you talk bout a "REMAKE" its different then a "PORT". We want a remake of the game meaning new graphics engine etc. They wouldnt remake a game with a 10 year old engine. And if they did remake it with the old engine the ps3 would have NO problem at all getting it to run since its maybe 70000 times strogner then a ps1 and the engine would be easy to emulate. The graphics engine would probably be the same as the engine used for Finalk Fantasy XII. Although i do tihnk this game is in development because suqareenix is not dumb at all, and they know if they released this game it would sell like crazy and make them a crap load of money.
The first 6 Final Fantasy's, maybe with the exception of 3, were not very popular outside of Japan. These remakes of 1-6 seem to be mainly catering to the Japanese handheld market. It's basically shovelware, I wouldn't even worry about it.
Wait until 13 is out, then clamor for a 7 remake. Believe me, I want to see it too.
Technically a remake shouldn't take that long, as almost all the conceptual side is done, they just need updated character designs, some plot tweaks and an engine to work with. Either they have FF7 in development, or they are stalling, i don't know what i believe any more. I'm not a fan of all this spin off FF7 stuff though, i don't like the new chars they have created and the prequal/sequal plots in dirge of Cerberus, crisis core and advent children.
I feel alot of the subtleties of the characters have been lost because of the expanded universe, i thought the FF7 universe was pretty unique and i loved the fusion of cyberpunk elements, the dystopian city, the end of the world crisis and the tifa aries/areith and cloud love triangle, I'm just not comfortable with how they have made Zack and Genesis as big as the Cloud and Septhiroth rivalry, which in my opinion was the main theme, the David and Goliath match up, good VS evil, except the good guy was self doubting and kind of an anti-hero.
The game seams to be losing how dark and macabre it was and has become more of an action fest.
Ive been a square fan for well over 10 years and have become almost completely disillusioned with them, my last hope after FFXIII and VS XIII, is an expanded FF7 remake and a parasite eve sequel, remake ect.

they would not need to port it since the ps3 already plays ps1 games....
But anyhoo why would it be harder to go from 3d to 3d as apposed from 2d to 3d as they did with the ds versions?..does not make any sense.
And yes I'm quite sure they are holding it back to save some hype for FFXIII
seems SE likes Microcrap's dirty money a lot, since Last Remnant is multi platform and Undiscovery something is exclusive to X360. Better hope PS3 sells a lot or SE will only do X360 crapTheTenth10
So a multi and an exclusive against?
FF XIII, FF vs XIII, SO 4, shall I continue With the rest?

yea but i would love to see atleast one of those games before 3Q and 4Q of 08.... lol
I think Square Enix knows very well how popular FF VII is and I believe a remake will happen(on PS3). As it was suggested before, when they showed the PS3 tech demo (of VII), the positive reaction was quite unexpected by SE.
You have to consider that right now, SE's big guns are working on FF XIII & XIII Versus and that SE wants these games to do as well, or better than any other FF in the series. So, time will be needed to let these two games have there time in the spot light. After all is said and done, what better way for SE to milk their franchise than to release a remake of VII a year or two later?
While I loved VII, I have zero interest in all of it's spin offs. I think it's great that they are focusing on those markets for those who may enjoy it, but it's not my cup of tea. I'd much rather see something new from them.
And for the record, I want a remake of VII as well.
Remaking a game for the ds is a lot different than remaking something like FF7 for the PS3. The ds remakes can still use the original games graphics, so there is little updating to do. They just add a little extra content here and there. Now if they remade FF7 for the PS3, I'm sure you'd be greatly disappointed if the graphics were on par with the original. Maybe a FF7 remake for the psp might work.
With new hardware in the PS3, the only option is to make a brand new game for that hardware. My opinion but I'd rather have something new.
of course they are avoiding a Remake. isn't it obvious? "haha, now they think we're gonna make the remake" and later on "rofl, what a bunch of tools, we haven't said ANYTHING and they think it again" .. and then "OMG! i just farted and now they think, like the tools they are, that they are gonna get a remake" .. i wouldn't say it sounds pathethic from my look at it. the only Pathethic people are the ones screaming "OMG! REMAKE! REMAKE REMAKE! every time someone moves at SE HQ.
They are (obviously) working on their first Next-gen title. now let them f'ing work on it
Can you blame them?

I agree. I don't think they'd be called money hungry, but the game wouldn't recieve high ratings.

but the ds version had 3d graphics.. and the old version had no such thing.. so How can it be easier besides the fact that the ps3 is capable of better so it would take longer to create those graphics.
Anyhoo why do you peeps keep speaking of a "remake" with ps1 graphics whilst that is utter nonsense.. besides the fact that people with the original disc can still play VII with the ps1 graphics .. if all they wanted was to put a port of VII to the ps3 masses they would just release it as a ps1 classic downloadable game.
Why waste time and money making the same old game. If anything they can release the game again but I still don't see the point. Deihmos
The point?
$$$$$$$$$$.

Well, Square is the king of delays, I mean, look at Dirge and FF XII. Announced several years before release. delayed trillions of times too :(
honestly when they remake theyll leave the same story maybe reword it to make it more clearer and DEFINATELY ADD more to it so that more spin-offs are possible along witha new battle system
honestly i have a feeling they will announce it a month or so b4 they release it
i hope they never remake it, i loved FF7 and i know that square-enix are going to kill it with a remake if they change the combat system, history, materias, etc... a FF7 with a spheregrid lvl system like in ff10... no thanks, or maybe a battle system like in 12... no thanks again...
they guy in the first page is right, Square-Enix will be critizied no matter what they do, if they just improve the graphics, translate better, and fix some bugs (like the magic armor one) they are going to be attacked as just interested in profits and milking (even more) the ff7 game. For the other part, if they do change the battle system, or something like that, they will be critizised for altering a classic.
They should leave it as it is, a PS1 game. They should focus in future releases and not in past games.
(in any case, IF they do remake it, i hope they dont change a thing in history, battle system, materias, lvl stuff, etc.)
I seriously doubt SE would implement drastic changes as they have yet to do so with other remakes. I believe SE will stay true to the roots of VII and just upgrade it's sound, graphics and improve the translation.
I don't think SE is too worried about the few complaints some might have because they know, with a name like FF VII, it's going to sell, regardless of whata few fans think.
a remake would just ruin a classic
beside...not many people will buy a 60 dollar game just for an improved graphic old game

I really prefer a FFXIII that is *as good* today as FFVII were in his day more than a remake.
The remake would be nice, but, personally, I wait so much for new FFs games to see the new story, the new characters, the new world, etc etc and stuff (I was even a bit bugged by the fact that FFXII was on Ivalice because I really like the concept of "a completely different world" every new Final Fantasy).
I think this remake hype is just nostalgy working the wrong way, as much as I would love to see new graphics, voice acting, enhanced combat system, etc etc; the most important stuff in the game (in my opinion) I already know.
I mean, I already cried to Aeris death when I was 15 y/o, I think that if I saw the exact same scene again, only on better graphics (kinda like Advent of Children), it would feel cheap and it would feel a part of my teenagerhood was, somehow, corrupted.
I want to cry about characters I don't know yet, I want to fall in love with stories that, today, are just drafts in someone scrapbook, the past has his warm place where it belongs, to take it out of there and bring the exact same thing here with just better images... I don't know...
I think the way the little SD cloud shakes when he is holding aeris, the way the SD Barrett shoots the ruins of Sector 7 (it was sector 7?) the way the litte SD Tifa grabs the masamune and runs into the reactor, I don't think that stuff can be reproduced without feeling cheap. I can see the FMVs being made like that technical demonstrarion was made, but the game itself, all the little gestures that were born out of necessity (because the technology at the time wasn't yet developed enough to make characters with faces), all those little things would be lost and, funny enough, in the name of nostalgy.
I think back in the day, Square was bold enough to, despiste all of the FF7 success, to make FF8 completely different and deliver us a completely new experience that was touching in a different way.
I hope they keep being bold and, despiste all of the FF7 remake claims, they go and and make stuff that we don't even dream about yet.
