wish theyd start throwing you into combat with hints throughout. shooting a harmless bucket with step by step instructions gets very annoying. insulting my gamer intelligence

that's exactly what i hate about many games today. What's wrong with creating an optional tutorial for those who want/need it. Instead, you get that force you to play the tutorial just to enter (COD & other fps', Gran Tourismo), or games that screw up ur initial level w/on-screen prompts or interrupts while ur trying to concentrate on enemies (Killzone2). Put tutorials where they belong--separate fr. th main game!

true that! I remember a time when this was the case. Not anymore though and that is really annoying with most of the cases.

I dont mind them so much as long as you have the ability to skip them if needed.

yes.. thats why we have manuals.. (unless if EA and Ubisoft have it their way) Tutorials should only be included in something if its like a completely new genre or something.. They can still exist, but they should just ask you at the start of the game "Do you suck?" If you pick yes, you go to the tutorial.

A whole lot of games do a perfectly good job of introducing you to the various combat mechanics in the easy early levels of the game. Giving you a completely separate tutorial really seems unnecessary.

Yah because we know everyone reads them, i constantly see people ask questions that can be answered just by reading it! I think for certain games its important to have a tutorial level like an RPG where there are a lot of control things going on, not so much for games like RDR or shooters as its pretty easy to pick up those kind of controls

Not everyone is as experienced as most of the people on here.

I agree, they should just put it in the menu below or under 'options'. If they insist on putting it in the game then they should ask you through the games dialogue, so that you can accept or decline it. This forced tutorial stuff is annoying.

For me its good and bad. Sometimes I wish I could skip some tuturials, but there have also been several games that I have gone through the whole game without having knowledge of some move, technique, option etc. These tutorial levels as well as short tutorials given in games now when you aquire something new can help me understand all the uses of that item.

I prefer the optional tutorial. That way if I'm sitting around bored one day and feel like seeing if there's anything cool I didnt know about I can check them out.

Nobody is saying they are. Most people here have said they could add a separate tutorial option. As for me, i don't have any problems with tutorial stages as long as they don't last for too long.

Optional would be best. I like how Dark Cloud 2 did their tutorials. Theres a menu option to go through some basics and advanced moves. The problem with putting everything in the manuel is that it could spoil some of the story. Thats why we should be able to go through the game without tutorials and have any moves or technique tutorials be accessible as we progress.
