So far I am hearing that everyone is getting the ylod of death especially the 60gb. Well my MGS4 80gb PS3 is really special because it has everything the 60 gb has. So I am wondering if I should sell it and buy a ps3 slim before it gets ylod. Im sure I can sell it for a good price since it is backward compatible and is much newer than 60gb.

YLOD is rarely happens though. Just make sure you put your ps3 in open area, and make sure you don't played it too long.

Unfortunately that is not true for the Older BC models. I took great care of my PS3, had it in an open areas, dusted it every other day and it died. Lasted 2 yrs 10 months mind you but eventually it did die. Most people I know with the 60 gb models have had theirs YLOD too after around the same amount of time. With the newer non BC models tho kikitube is absolutely correct. YLOD is very rare.. SO go ahead and buy the slim IMO.

The slim has 45nm cell and 45nm Gpu. My Ps3 has 65nm Cell and 90nm GPU. Since I play long hours it will overheat quickly and it consumes alot of power.

I picked up my MGS4 bundle off Craigslist new, had to cause I waited too long to pick it up in a store and I wanted backwards compatibility so I could get rid of my PS2. Going strong for a year and a half now. I haven't read too much about this version having problems, mostly the 60gb. Of course no version is perfect and if you get a good price for yours, I'd say go for it. I might look into this when mine gets a little over 2 years old. If you're worried about it, might as well get something for it while you can.

Ya I am thinking of getting an external cooling fan to push the hot air away from the ps3. Hopefully this will help it.

I got the MGS4 bundle. I didn't get a YLOD, but ps3 games and blu-ray movies wouldn't work, but my ps2 games and dvd's would still play.

I've had mine since the day it released and it's fine. I recently made a custom cooling system for it and it barely gets hot at all anymore. Do all you can to keep it cool and clean and it should last for quite a while.

I have the PS3 MGS4 bundle and I have used it a whole lot to the point that its just overdoing it. The great news is that it is functioning just perfectly if that makes you feel a bit better about your system.

I never limit the amount of time i use my Launch 60GB (well, about a week after the UK launch). It's still running perfectly. Sure, it's a little louder than when I first got it, in regards to the fan. But if I were to disassemble it, and remove any dust build-up, I get the feeling it'd just run like new :)

I originally owned a 60GB from launch, and kept it for approx 2 years which were problem free apart from the occasional freeze up.But i always try to replace my consoles for a newer one as soon as i can afford it,cos doesn't matter how you look after anything in life-nothing lasts forever.I also read many reports of 60GBs suffering from YLOD,i expect mainly cos they're the older consoles.

So i sold my 60GB and now got a newer 2009 80GB Phat PS3,cos i got it new for ££££s less than the available slim 120GB at the time.Fitted it straight away with a Western digital Scorpio blue 320GB hard drive, and couldn't really be happier than with the PS3 i now got.
