Im thinking my troubles with my ps3 and playing online cod4 might have to do with my nat type. I don't use a router I just plug straight into my modem, but when I check my internet settings at the bottom it says.... NAT type -

is there anyway to get that changed to NAT type 2? or whatever would help my online games run smoother and have my bluetooth headset not make my game skip.

i was having the same problem and this guy posted this and it really helped.

NAT=Network Address Resolution Protocol, it is a security device in all home routers that hides your IP address to make your own network secure

NAT 3 limits communication and has high security, to lower this to NAT 2 you will need to enable UPnP. With my router I needed to place my PS3 on a DMZ. A DMZ allows unrestricted access to the specified IP address both too and from, without compromising security of your network.

I don't know what kind of router you have, and if you don't have one then you would need to contact your internet service provider.

UPnP is usually an option that just requires clicking a bubble to enable it, rather simple if you look around in the router.

DMZ what i would do is go to network settings on the PS3, write down your IP address, then find the DMZ setting and put that IP address in there.

Hey anls4e you stole that from me from earlier :P, but yea those are the issues that can result in a NAT 3. If you do those things and you still get a NAT 3 then chances are your router cannot go lower or it may even be the ISP

On certain routers primarily with Linksys brands, the media center will cause a problem, however that should not give you a NAT 3. Turning it off will most certainly help but will not resolve the NAT 3 issue as it is security based and not data based (connecting to a media server of sorts)
