Pic related. I'm in it for the atmoshpere and the gameplay, not the poorly scripted cliche ridden plot. Can't wait for my copy to come through the door, still.

Why is your copy coming THROUGH the door?
I like Nathan Drake's character in the same sort of way I like central characters in a sitcom. They're not really fleshed out, but they have character and get some funny lines. Saying the plot is good because Indiana Jones is good doesn't even begin to stand up as an argument. There are plenty of garbage adventure films like National Treasure and the Tomb Raider films, Uncharted 1 was a good game with a garbage story. I just hope Uncharted 2 does it a bit better, we need a game with a good plot.
I still don't see why the story of Uncharted 1 is garbage? Maybe you did expect too much. It got a climax, a highlight and in the end there were a kind of surprising end (everyone recognized there were some other beings around on the island but I guess NOBODY thought of them as zombie Spaniards). It might be a cliché ending but still it's meant to be that. Hell it's not MGS.
I find the stories to just be generic action/adventure film fare. I could see Mathew Mcconaughey in a movie with a similar plot and script. I personally loathe Nathan Drake, as I can't stand constant tongue-in-cheek characters. So I hope thats a bit different in Uncharted 2. I may get some enjoyment out of it then. raven_squad
what kind of characters do you like. whats wrong with tongue in cheek. you dont like witty sarcastic people? you got something against them? its been a while since i last played and beat uncharted 1 so i dont remember how generic the story was but this one really feels like it has plenty of depth. plenty of tongue in cheek still but the characters dont feel like cookie cutters with one liners. they feel natural and human. also this is one of the few games where i havent yet figured out all the plot twist in advance. im excited to find out how the love triangle ends. chloe is a bit devoid of sympathy at the moment but it cant end like that. hints of a good nature are there.
if you want my best guess (i have no idea how it ends im at the mountain area right after the truck jumping part.) so this is only a spoiler if im guessing correctly. chloe will die at the end when she sacrifices her own life to save nathan or something along those lines.

Well, for one thing, I disagree wholeheartedly that these people act like natural, every day people. They act like characters in a Steven Spielberg summer blockbuster, which is how they are supposed to be acting honestly. But It's not to my taste. As far as figuring out the plot twists of the first game, your pretty much right. Nearly impossible to guess it (though you should have known you would be making SOME kind of encounter). The reason for that being the fact that it was a plot twist that would make M. Night Shyamalan facepalm.I just played the first one about two weeks ago (just got my PS3). I got this game used just to see what you guys have been talking about for the past two years.
I never give a crap about the story in videogames, expecialy shooters. But I must say that Uncharted has the most interesting story I think I can remember ever in a videogame. I'm playing part two right now but I'm only on chapter 3 so I can't really comment on this one yet, but I'm sure it won't disappoint
...i dont know how you live your life but i try to inject a little humor into life. maybe thats just me but i make wise ass remarks. you could say in the heat of the moment no one would be making these kinds of remarks and thats probably true but unless youve jumped from mountain cliffs while getting shot at by war criminals you probably dont know how youd react. plus it wouldnt be fun if all the characters were constantly **** themselves at the threat of death around each corner. youd have no conversations nothing to make the characters feel human youd get blair witch project crying screaming heavy breathing and upnose shots. fun for a 90 min scarefest. not so much for a 12 hour video game. you have to suspend disbelief and seperate the action from the character and plot development. its part of gaming. you cant play a drama (except maybe heavy rain) and you cant have an exciting plot turning character driven firefight so you have to accept that both need to overlap.
in a way i think its a little sad if you cant allow yourself to be pulled into the art and truely enjoy the experience without "facepalming" and saying gee how unrealistic.
It starts off well, the game in general starts going downhill when you get to Elena's parachute for me.
I love how your judging my taste, emotions, and damn near my entire personality because I didn't like Uncharted. Keep going, I'm quite amused....i dont know how you live your life but i try to inject a little humor into life. maybe thats just me but i make wise ass remarks. you could say in the heat of the moment no one would be making these kinds of remarks and thats probably true but unless youve jumped from mountain cliffs while getting shot at by war criminals you probably dont know how youd react. plus it wouldnt be fun if all the characters were constantly **** themselves at the threat of death around each corner. youd have no conversations nothing to make the characters feel human youd get blair witch project crying screaming heavy breathing and upnose shots. fun for a 90 min scarefest. not so much for a 12 hour video game. you have to suspend disbelief and seperate the action from the character and plot development. its part of gaming. you cant play a drama (except maybe heavy rain) and you cant have an exciting plot turning character driven firefight so you have to accept that both need to overlap.

well it turns out its also sad you cant just read my opinion on the action adventure genre without immediatly coming to the conclusion that im attacking you personally. perhaps instead of being amused by my explaination of the genre and the liberties with real life it needs to take inorder to be both enjoyable and intriguing you could offer an explaination as to why you think it doesnt work. perhaps you read a different tone in my post than i intended but im not judging anything mearly giving an alternate view on how to enjoy the experience. it also doesnt help that we are talking about different games. im discussing uncharted 2 which it seems you havent yet played. your talking about the first uncharted which i havent played in well over a year so ive forgotten the tone that game took. i dont feel like this one has over the top out of place one liners during firefights or anything. most of the tongue in cheek remarks come after a near death moment when personally i think a lot of people would make these sorts of remarks as a means of calming down and lightening the mood.
perhaps it was the last line about thinking its a little sad. i didnt mean it in the slang way like your pathetic i ment i actually feel bad for you that the way your wired doesnt allow you to enjoy the game the way others might.
you took everything as an attack. im not hear to get in a online pissing contest just looking for discussion and alternate views.

Ummm, no, you actually out right attacked my opinion. "I don't know how you live your life", "It's sad you can't allow yourself...". Just go play Uncharted 2 ok?I never said that it doesn't work in the first place. These kinds of "adventures" have been around in the film industry since the beginning, so it's clear they work. I just don't enjoy it. And the tongueincheek moments come in just about every cutscene, and nearly constantly within those cutscenes.
And if your inclined, my biggest problems with Uncharted don't even lie within the script or story. I thought the gameplay was terribly uninspiring after the first hour or so. Drawn out firefights with the same pirates spawning in randomly, limited weapon selection. The platforming was well executed but utterly repetitive.
I really enjoy the plot and the voice acting, scripting ect.
I think its great =)
But that's not all I like about it. I loved everything about the first
And the second is just better on all fronts.

well at least youve proved one point. your absouletly right that you dont enjoy tongue in cheek. the quoted lines are tongue in cheek. (and the second one i explained in my last post because i can see how that one can be misconstrude.) ...and even if the first one wasnt tongue in cheek "i dont know how you live your life" as a stand alone line is anything but an outright attack. in fact its the exact opposite. its a statement of my lack of familiarity with your lifestyle. im prefacing my entire opinion by acknowledging an unknown factor. that factor being all the things you accused me of attacking.
in the end it doesnt matter because you havent played uncharted 2 and thats more or less the basis of this entire conversation. its hard to have an honest discussion when we are basing all or opinions on two seperate games. the first one had some shortcomings with the actually gameplay no doubt. i do think this one better intergrates all the elements and has yet to feel repetitive to me.
