How much memory does it take up? What are some possible errors that could go on?GodofBigMacs
You have to format your HDD and add a partition, i think its something like a 10gb partition for a new OS

10gb of your hard drive. nothing can really go wrong. sony made it impossible to mess up your ps3 with linux. if you ever have any problems, hold the power button when you're turning on your ps3 untill you hear 2 beeps. that will start the regular ps3 system.
pros?
it turns your ps3 into a computer. gives you a ton features that are not in the regular OS.
-hooking up devices via bluetooth (look at the screenshot, my phone is hooked up with BT)
-sharing files with other computers in your home
-printing. i set up my ps3 to print to a printer connected to my windows pc wirelessly.
-these are just some examples, but you can do anything on a normal pc with linux.
no it doesn't replace it. in fact, it's impossible to replace it because the XMB is not on the hard drive at all, it's on flash memory inside the ps3.
i think you have to update to firmware 1.60 or later, because that's when sony allowed linux to use wi-fi. i know ubuntu, and yellow dog work easily, not sure about fedora. i gave up on fedora after i coudn't get fedora 6 to work.andrewwg94Thanks for the tip. However, I keep my Ps3 always updated, I'm at firmware 2.53 right now. I read somwhere else that you could actually use wi-fi with earlier versions of the Ps3 firmware, but all of a sudden it was taken away in an update. So I really don't know, I tryied a lot of things and I couldn't make it work, and the bottom line was that it didn't seem to be worth all the trouble to beggin with. Thanks anyways!
So if you install this on you have to get to Linux through XMB?pros?

[QUOTE="andrewwg94"]So if you install this on you have to get to Linux through XMB? There is an option to... "boot to other OS" in the settings menu. Select that option and reboot, that's all.pros?

[QUOTE="andrewwg94"]go to psubuntu.com, you can download it from there--it's free--and it tells you how to install it and everythingxeon71how does it run? I had Yellow Dog Linux on mine and it runs really slow. If it is fast then it might be worth it. after you take down unnecssary services and such, it's fairly fast.
