Price drop for the ps3 is improbable this year. If sony do drop their price it would mean that they are not selling their consoles. It is more likely that the xbox 360 will drop their price b4 gta4 comes out as it has been out one year longer than the ps3.

ps3 is actually a much better deal considering the elite does NOT have hd dvd (ps3 has blu-ray), free online gaming, and no one needs 120 gigs of space on a videogame console... seriously. come on now. the only reason i got the $600 ps3 was because of the built-in wifi, bluetooth, and realizing i'm getting a better deal with the 60 gigs. but i don't even need 60 gigs. 8g's was fine with the first xbox. though i guess with dl's on the ps3, a 20 gig would be necessary.
Edit: i didn't mean to put in bluetooth, i realize it's in both versions.... i'm pretty sure....
If you want a PS3 at a cheaper price you can try ebay. I've seen some for 400 to $580. Just watch the positive feedback, shipping charges, gb size etc.
Personally, I can't understand half of what this guys saying. :P But the 60GB is $600 (BestBuy sells console packages with games so you were looking at that) and with good games coming out in fall (not to mention Home) the chances are very slim that they would drop the price. The thing is that built in wifi, bluetooth and blueray are not needed for gaming and those are the features that is holding the ps3 back. But this argument has been gone over numerous times so it is pointless to argue.

I can't see them dropping the price even if Blu-ray wins because they are still charging $700 for the cheapest Blu-ray player. Anyone wanting to save $100-200 would easily go buy one of the PS3 models. Though it is surprising how Ive heard non-gamers wanting a Blu-ray player to be scared of getting a PS3 and would be willing to fork over extra money for the stand-alone player. :P

Tiger Direct sells Samsung ones for $470 here.
Unfortunately the Samsung is that first one that only supports up to 1080i. Still, it's comparable to most HDDVD players.

The kid's delusional. Ignore him. There is NO need for a price drop. Think of it like this: If 360 drops its price this year, it'll accumulate anyone who's stupid enough to buy the brittle system. Once they see in a year from there that they were ripped off, the PS3 price will be lower or there will be bundles. Then the person will buy that, and try to sell his 360 on ebay. Thus concludes this video game war (and the Wii goes Wiiiiiiii for all).
