Well I bought oblivion yesterday, and I've only played it for about 1-2 hours ( i know it's not a lot) but I don't seem to like the game that much. It looks really good and I haven't gotten into the story that much. I find it really confusing right now, with all the magic, skills, I'm not really sure what to do most of the time, and i get lost.

well do any of you have felt the same way with any game before? and did after learning how to play and stuff  did you start liking the game?

I figure I'll just keep playing it for right now and see if i could get into it.

ohh and before people say why did i get it in the first place, it was because of all the good reviews I had read.

I also had that at first, I was like ''Dude, wth? Where do I go? What do I buy? Theres so much stuff, HALP PLX!'' but after a while, you'll know how the game works and stuff, in 1 - 2 hours you can't do alot of stuff in the game, if you play it alot you advance alot and then it becomes addictive.

Or maybe you don't like the genre of the game. :/

I too was unsure of it on the first play it was all quite daunting. But i kept playing and gradually warmed to it, i'm still not fully in agreement with all the raving reviews it has gotten but i'm still enjoying it none the less.

I had exact the same thing, after I played it for 2 hours I thought 'Is this it?' It was confusing and strange IMO. But now, after hours of playing I love it. When you finally know all the things in the menu and get used to it the game becomes very very good. The freedom, the story, the gameplay, all are great but you just have to get into it.

I was expecting a lot more. I thought I could go on and freely do whatever I could, but the situations seemed very limited and the characters interactions very linear. I can easily seem it's a good game, and the free roaming and possibilities are vast, but not in the degree I was hoping for. For instance, you can steal things from people, starting a situation where they complain about it and start attacking, but then next time they act like they never met you before. The AI is poorly designed for a game with such high demands.

Hey, its OK! Its an RPG after all, if you dont wanna focus on all the magic things then just carry a sword and shield and do it that way. It makes the game MUCH more simple doing that. Then, things will just come naturaly as you get deeper into the game and then you can branch out more once you get used to it. Try not to try and do everything at once, cause that is a recipe for disaster!!

personally I don't like it that much.Visually its an amazing game. The idea of the game is great but there is a lack of fighting which bores me to death.I literally walked pretty much across the whole country in the game and saw one wolf and that was it.What the hell. How do you level up if all you see is one enemy in 4 hours of playing.I would absolutely love this game if there were monsters coming out from behind every tree or rock.well not every tree but you know what I mean.

Only thjing i hate about it is the frame rate. Terrible terrible framerate. Worse than splinter cells, yet that game still continues to take more heat for its framerate. I don't get it. Still a good game though.

The game is garbage, pure and simple. There are no real choices in the game (outside of "accept this quest or don't accept it") and frankly, it's not an RPG.

I wasn't too found of this game myself either. I played for quite a few hours too, and it just didn't get any better. I would love something like Fable on the PS3. This just didn't cut the mustard for me though.

yep basically what everyone else has already said - the game sucks at first because its alot to take in.  but keep playing it for a while.  eventually you will become addicted to the point where you just can't help it anymore, you HAVE to play!   It's a lot of fun once you get going a little deeper.

Having played Morrowind on PC, it was easy to get into, but I've always got the feeling this game is waaay easier than Morrowind was. The fact it gives you directon markers, and fast travelling takes a little bit from the exploring aspect, the sitstriders were moer realistic in the context of the game.

I didn't like the game. It's just too boring in my eyes and i don't get bored easily (i grinded mobs for months in WoW). I prefer the battle system of FF XII and other more traditional JRPGs. I also like the story to be told cinematicaly like in FFs, i don't like to search for the story until i get lucky . . . Anyway i can see that many people like these games but they are not for everyone. One thing that worries me is that Bethestha is now developing Fallout 3. The first two Fallouts were great and i tremble with the thought that the third might be an Oblivion clone.

Did you also notice that the continuity of their speech style can change throughout conversations sometimes? You might begin a conversation with a sort of withering begger but if you possibly ask about a rumour or something their style of speech shifts to a completely different accent.

yeah ive noticed that. with how huge the game is, youd think theyd invest a little more time in the audio department.

Make sure you use the journal's quest log to choose your active quest. It will make it a LOT easier to find your next objective with the marker on your compass at the bottom of the screen.

When I first started playing it was the same for me. I was about to give it up and sell it but one day I sat down and played for like 3 hours straight and I became addicted. I don't play that much anymore just because I have beaten pretty much everything there is to beat.

When I first got Oblivion on 360 I hated it.  I didn't understand how things worked at all.  I put it away and didn't pick it up again for another 2 months.  I ran out of games to play so I picked it up again and actually read the manual and I started playing.  I played through the main quest line and loved it.  I started another character and played through again concentrating on magic, then I gave it 1 more go and played through as an assasin.  Total hours on 360 about 120.

When it was released for PS3 and the reviews said it looked and performed better I had to buy it.  I'm about 50 hours in and I've completed all the guild quests, the arena, and have just started on the main quest line.

Do I like Oblivion?  HELL NO!  I love it, it's the best game ever imo!

I agree with this guy. This is the most boring game I've ever played. And I just don't see the great graphics I heard everyone talking about, the open field you run through is seemingly the same animations for miles - Boooring. I'm glad I only rented this game with a free coupon. Imo this is just a graphically enhanced last generation game, not ready for next gen material. Bring on Heavenly Sword and Uncharted, I'm ready to play B3yond.

Read my review on the game. The game is an ok game that has some good graphics OUT doors, the in door ones are just so-so.

The worst thing is the animation though, I can't fathom how bad they are.

The complex character advancement is good, but perhaps too advanced and complicated for regular gamers. And the story.. well, it was a drag and not very interesting. (name one character that's interesting in the story please, if you think the story is interesting).

It's an MMORPG with one person, and I felt asleep a few times when I played it because although the outside world are very pretty, almost NOTHING happens outside. Every thing happens inside of some caves or rooms, and those places are just bland and sometimes bad.

So over all, if you are heavily into Western rpg, it's a good game. If you aren't, huh... the game is just so-so.

I have never played an american styled RPG before, but the freedom of this game as well as the reviews made it the only game I have bought for the ps3. (played the demos of both resistance and motorstorm and got bored within five minutes). I really like it, though for me the idea of being able to play a game in a universe however you feel in whatever order is what makes the game addicting.

To really make myself sound like a dork, I think the reason I like the game so much is that it's like D&D without having to gather a group of people together to play. I am an RPG fanatic anyways and as far as I am concerned, an epic JRPG with a decent story hasn't come out since FFX, so this new experience makes up for the shoddy writing coming out o' Japan lately.

I dislike the game. (when compared to what reviewer's gave the game)

Sure it's got an impressive amount of little nuances that give the game character, but it brings nothing new to the RPG lineup of games.

Randomly pushing a stupid sword slash button and an occaisional spell is not enough action in combat. Conversations with NPCs that point out obvious to-do lists is about as much fun as talking to my wife.

Lets hope game reviewers's get serious and set the bar a little higher instead of rewarding a slight step ahead of last generation copies  with high ranking numbers. This game cost me $59. It was a $40 game at best.

I rented the game and gave it a huge chance, I played it for like 8 hours the first night--for most of them I was really bored but then finally I got to the kingdom place and fought in the arena and made some money. Then I thought the game might be cool even though the battles were kind of weak and not very responsive--I played for the next few days, I probably put like 17 hours into it, then when I got to an enemy in the arena I couldn't beat, I decided to continue my quest. Which led me to the first Oblivion gate which I thought was really awesome--but damn it took forever to get through it. So after that I tried my skills at the arena again but kept dying so I wanted to find a guild, but now everyone was coming out of the woods to kill me, so I'd randomly get killed and at that point I was just sick of giving the game a chance. I totally prefer a linear game, the thing I hate most about a game is if I get lost for a dumb reason and the game doesn't give me any direction to go--so clearly Oblivion is not for me. I thought I was one of the few, but it's cool to hear that other people feel the same. After Oblivion I gave Final Fantasy XII a chance and I definitely prefer everything about it.

I don't own it on the PS3 but I will. I nearly finished it on the PC (I purchased a download version) but then my HD died and I figured, may as well get it on the PS3 if I'm going to have to start over. Let me tell you, from what I've heard here it's best on the PC but still plays well on the PS3.  That's my opinion based solely on the reviews and user comments I've seen. As western RPG's go, it's hands up one of the best around of the current generation. Will it hold up to eastern games like White Knight and Final Fantasy, I don't think so but then again, I don't care. Fun is fun and the deeper you get into the game, the more fun you can have. Same goes for any RPG really, they're all kind of boring on the outset until you get a few hours in.

I played Oblivion for the majority of a day the week it was released for 360. Amazing graphics and pretty fun gameplay, but it wasn't really my thing.

I'm kinda on the fence with this one.. I don't really like or dislike it..

I don't really like it. It's pointlessly to big, to many dungeons with no rewards. Guards who try to arrest you when you commit theft, even tho no one saw you. Stupid level up system that dosen't work cos your enemy levels up with you... I could go on.

I was def lost in the begginning but the more you keep looking at the menu and figuring out what each part is for the more you like the game. Once you get out of the sewers just activate the quests and your compass and map tells you where to go. You will get it down sooner or later. And you wont put it down

I don't really like it. It's pointlessly to big, to many dungeons with no rewards. Guards who try to arrest you when you commit theft, even tho no one saw you. Stupid level up system that dosen't work cos your enemy levels up with you... I could go on.hi_rev_kev

i agree with you, it is much larger than it should of been.  instead of making tons of identicial looking dungeons, oblivion areas, and wilderness, thay should of made a smaller much more unique world.  people always praise oblivion for its massive size, but any game could be massive if it used the same dungeon twenty times with slightly different enemies.
