Seems pretty striaght forward.  The thing i dont get is how the machine gets the "GameOS" back on the HD after you put the new one in.  Is the PS3 frontend stored on flash RAM in the system or what?  Since there are no CDs with that stuff on it, I wonder.

Yeah it's stored internally on flash memory just like PSP. It's definitely adding to the system cost a bit but is well worth it considering they trouble people would have to go through getting data transfer cable bs or whatever 360 has.

They made it so simple for us to replace our hard drives. And you can abckup all the data you need without losing any settings stored on Flash. I swapped my HDD for a 160GB.

You don't need your PSN password to backup the data on the hard drive.

You can copy them to some form of flash media, wether it be a USB flash drive or a Pro Stick DUO, and then once you have finished formatting the new HDD you can load those files onto it.

Its fairly simple, and because I purchased the 20GB originally I choose to spend that extra $100 on a 160GB HDD...

Same, don't know why you'd need more for a console.

If you're only using the PS3 to play games ... What a Waste!

Do so while I watch my 1080p movies in Glory on my PS3 Harddrive,

MPEG formated. =)

*no I won't tell you where I get my 1080p movies.

Well im looking to put a 160 gb in mine soon, I found it more cost effective to just buy the 20 gigger and then put a new hdd in. I dont need WiFi and I have a card reader on my computer. :D Ugh off to Penal Law.....just one more week...one....more. lol

Because Sony claims that 60GB isn't enought.

Same here, I saw one on newegg.com that was 160gb for $120. So I might be picking that up in the near future.

The majority of the games you download can not be copied. Only game saves, videos, music, and pictures can be copied. You will need to log onto your name and redownload them from the store. If you have your password check on remember, even after you switch out your harddrive when you log back on your password should still be put in so you just have to click sign in.

So is there a certian brand or model of external HD that works better with the PS3??  If I upgrade my HD I will need some way to get the stuff off.  At this point I could probably get by with a few flash sticks.  Probably would not want to run the external HD full time as extra storage, the PS3 may not like that.
