I think the industry needs to push the envelope a bit more. If Sony and Nintendo joined MS which already allows AO games in a campaign to get retailers to carry AO games then I think that would boost their sales. Develop a special wrapping for them like you get with adult magazines at bookstores so there would be no mistaken purchases by adults trying to buy it for their kids.

The industry is getting stale if you ask me, there needs to be something to spice it up again. Its seems creativity is getting rare so I think AO games would be a logical decision to add something new.

Also considering that there are so many 18+ gamers today I think its more than appropriate. This isn't 1983 anymore. Games are not limited to kids and teens. Its not a revolution, but a logical evolution. Are you with me on this?

When did MS ever partake in such a campaign? Major retailers won't put AO games on their shelves either. Anyway, I would like to see AO games released as well, but the only way I see it happening is via online only for PCs.

I said MS allows AO games, they aren't trying to market them yet. They can let third party dev's do them, but I think if big companies got behind the idea and told retailers logically why AO games should be carried, then they would be on store shelves and our selection of games more interesting.

What I proposed was that Sony and Nintendo should join MS in allowing AO games (actually not Nintendo since its heavily kid oriented). Currently Sony won't even allow AO games to be licensed on their systems!

But developers are too weary to make an AO game on 360, so there are none. Thats the problem, its bending to these old standards. The industry should join forces and campaign to convince retailers to put AO games in the marketplace. Age restricted, and properly packaged, but also on store shelves. Not every store will carry them. Walmart and Targets might not, but they don't need to. EB Games and Gamestop will. Online stores will, eventually most stores should be carrying AO games. Just like not every major retailer or book store carries a Playboy magazine, but many do. The rating is a just a symbol. And similar content is already in rated R movies and other media. So given the media content already estabilished among many mainstream retailers it wouldn't be that difficult to get AO games put in a similar context.

The problem today is that game companies aren't teaming up, aren't voicing concern about AO restrictions and so you get Rockstar overhauling Manhunt 2 simply to appease an outdated paradigm in videogames. The market is certainly there if only the industry would get some balls.

im sure what ever was in manhunt 2 they had to cut out, is no worse then anything you see in a horror movie. first off it's censorship and sony and nintendo should not have the right to say we won't allow it on our system. but! they do own the console so thats kind of an delema! i say give it time, some one on the hot spot said it best, "people still view games as toys" and every one is always thinking of the chilldren Oh the chilldren! in anouther 10 years or so we will have meny more rights and alot more things (such as sex and violence) will be more accsepted!

Neither Sony, Nintendo, nor Microsoft will allow AO games to be published for their consoles. As I said before, it would be great if AO games were allowed on consoles and PCs, but there's simply too much risk for the big three to do so. You know some kid is going to get their hands on an AO game, the parents/guardians will sue the console company and the game's developer, and the console company gets a bunch of bad publicity for it despite the ESRB rating.

Ahh, I thought MS allowed AO.

The issue remains. The industry needs to stand up to the intimidation. Lawsuits wouldn't hold up in court. It would be a frivilous lawsuit and the only people responsible would be either the retailer for not verifying the age or the parent for not checking the rating.

I think if the companies continue to reinforce a stigma for AO games they are only hurting themselves in sales. If they fight it, they can get the public to understand that the markets for all ratings of games can exist and its up to parents and retailers to keep adult material from children.

Yea, I wish at least one company would start it off by releasing an AO game directly online for download. There's got to be a big enough market interested in the original uncut version of Manhunt 2 lol.

well for one thing, the majority of the demographic of the video game industry is 18-35

so why not have AO games? take that into account, it doesnt really make any sense

i think games will take the same turn that the movie industry took as far as ratings go if you noticed jaws was rated pg, some movies were rated x and were just hard to see in a theater in the 60s and 70s you had to find the indie theaters that were playing the dawn of the deadsof the time and now you can go pickup pretty muh any x or nc-17 rated movie you want at pretty much any retail store. the ratings will work themselves out and i dont think by adding more gore or swearing or sex into a game is going to make it better look how many horrible horror movies there are just using the gore as a reason to cough up the money for a ticket. and sure enough like the movie industry the game industry will come full of remakes.
