hello

360 owner here. I'm selling off the wii and I'm thinking about getting a ps3 (I want a blu ray player and why not get one that plays awesome games)

I want to find a 20gb because I'd assume they would be cheap. I don't care about storage spaace because I could get a laptop harddrive for cheap.

are thier any disadvantages to the system since it was the cheap model back when it was new (is thier HDMI and all that good stuff? wireless? ps2/ps1 playback)

thanks

They are pretty rare, so you will have a hard time finding one

i wouldnt advise buying earlier models as they are mainly the only ps3's having troubles. they rushed the early build for reasons now known

Rushed? The PS3 was delayed in North America and twice in Europe

To be honest, I thought that the production of the 20GB was to promote the 60GB by blatantly taking away many of its features in order to make it seem like it was definately worth the upgrade to 60GB. zomg, Sony conspiracies!

go for the 20! excelent console, i have the first 20gb japanese model and a white 40gb.

the 20gb seems to be build with more technology, its like if the first model is built with more quality. also have more air vents, cause the the gpu is still at 90mm, new models use less energy as well.

Actually I think the 20 GB's are more expensive due to backwards compatability.

I have a 20GB model (upgraded the hard drive a long time ago, of course). It still works fine, and it's great to have full PS2-compatibility. The only thing that's missing is wifi... but ethernet is more reliable anyway, so whatever.

your best bet is a no BC 40 or 60, cheapest thing you'll find, then plug in a terabyte of external.

i would recommend the MGS 4 80gig bundle if you cant find it, it has full backwards compatibility and theres the uncharted 120gig bundle but i dont think it has any backwards compatibility thats about 500 bucks and the mgs one is i think $400

If you plan to play fewer single player games, then it's great. Although be warned - - it may break down :|

Interesting. 1 out of however many hundreds of thousands/millions of 20GB units produced. You should actually feel special. :) Anyways, honestly speaking, I haven't heard of many 20gb's breaking down. So far, the majority of those with YLOD have been 60's, and a couple 80's.

Araksik, all of the North American 20 GB PS3s have the emotion engine chipset in it- sounds like you have a bit of technical trouble there.

To the TC, if the backward compatibility is one of your main concerns, definitely look for the 20 GB or the original 60 GB.

20GB is one of the best one's with it's backward compatability for PS2 games. Only "slightly" negative thing about it is that it has no wireless chip, so you'll have to connect to internet with a Ethernet cable.

I would take a 20GB model over any current model today, because they have the EE chip for full PS2 compatibility. Those 20GB and 60GB models are rare and hard to find. They might actually be more expensive to buy than the 40 or 80GB ones. I have a 60GB model that I upgraded to 320GB. And it is nonsense that these models ever had any issues. They don't. The only useful feature missing from the 20GB model is wifi. If that is important for you, then don't get the 20GB.

they aren't cheap really, it was one of the first ones made so it is backwards combatable, and idk for sure i think it is made better too, because shortly after they came out with the 20 and 60 gig, they cant out with the none backwards ones where they stripped alone of the features because they cost to much to make, so if you can find a 20 get that, i htink youll be better off in the long run
