wel the best FPS i know on psp is medal of honor and even that one doesn't look that great, so nh i dont think psp has any good FPS
but if some one(sony) would have added a second analog stick to it im shure we would be getting waaay better shooters than we do now, oh wel lets hope psp2(if ever come out) will have 2 sticks...
It is not a lost cause, is just that developers think it needs another analog stick (it does need one, but fps work ok with sort of a N64 adaptation, using the face buttons to aim and the stick to move)
It is not bad once you get used to it. Great FPS for PSP are: Medal of Honor Heroes 1 and 2, Coded Arms and Coded Arms contagion. Don't know why devs choose not to take this pad as with those titles it has been proven that PSP can Handle FPSs very well
Actually, FPS aren't terrible if you're comfortable with moving with the face buttons and using the analog stick to move. I used to play Dreamcast games this way, but it never became second nature to me and there aren't enough PSP shooters to get me willing to to try again.
I think developers have totally gotten the PSP wrong on FPS. They're busy trying to shoehorn modern design onto a system that can't handle it. Using Goldeneye as the gold standard (no pun intended), remember what that game lacked- jumping, crouching, only one way to cycle through weapons....yet it's still a brilliant FPS due to its design. Here's how I imagine a good control scheme for the PSP (and it's a total ripoff of Goldeneye).
Analog stick- forward, back, turn left, turn right
Square, Circle- strafe left and right, respectively
X, Triangle- look up and down
R- Fire
L- Manual aim (used with analog stick)
L+Square- Reload
Start- Pause
Select- Cycle weapons
Throw in a reasonable amount of aim-assist (again, as in Goldeneye where you could see the gun moving to help target), and now you have a perfectly workable control scheme. Now go design some great levels and it'll be called a great FPS. I intentionally left the D-pad untouched because a) I hate not moving so I can perform some other task, and b) in case the developers had a really cool ideas that might need a button or two.
Oh yeah actually i played the original moh on ps1 and it wernt that bad... but it also had 2 analog sticks, same with golden eye iv played that on PS2. I dont rekon that the psp will really get any gd fps apart from mayb moh that one person sed. I don't think that psp only havin 1 stik is a magor fault tho. it stil a very gd console.
You can change the controls so that you move with the face buttons and aim with the analog stick. It worked just well for me. In fact, I was hooked on Medal of Honor Heroes for a long, long time. But since people like complaining and nitpicking about the second analog stick they don't make FPS games anymore. A real shame if you ask me. If people were only willing to try it instead of complaining then it would be so much better. But then again, FPS isn't really my style so no big loss there. As long as I get enough RPGs(I do :)) and fighters/beat'em ups(I don't :() I'm all happy.Darth_Tic-Tac
I'm guessing then that you already own Tekken Dark resurrection, best beat em up on psp i ever played, are the moh games actualy realy good? I liked da original, wats beta mohh1 or 2?
if you wanna force an FPS game on a portable, you can get a Nintendo DS. FPS on a DS are way superior to PSP in all but graphics department. Nothing on the PSP has quenched my thirst for an fps yet, not even close.Psience
Moose Puckey.
I like the stylus on "That Other System" for FPS control but the PSP works just fine for a shooter... the only things wrong with the MoH games are the clipping and the AI, it has almost nothing to do with the game's control whatsoever. Like driving games without a second analog control, the programmers have managed to leave that right amount of slack to the player in order to keep them hooked... I can't put MoH down recently. Once you get into mastering each weapon and capturing every award you just... can't... STOP!

Yeah, Tekken is the real deal, one of my favorite PSP games. And answering your question, once you change the controls, the first MoH Heroes is a good game, and, according to my cousin the second one is great too.
there's a lot of really good 3rd person shooters. not so hot on the fps.
that is, until resistence comes out
ihaveabu
resistance for the psp is gonna be a third person shooter
What's the deal on that demo center? Are there demos which work ofr certain countries (hence the little flags next to them)? And how does it work, just like the PSN where you have your PSP plugged in via USB?ston3henge
You simply download the demos (Any country version will work). Connect your PSP to your PC via USB and drop the downloaded demo into the GAME section of your memory stick. The site used to be able to download directly to PSP via PSP browser, but the site won't work when I try to access it on my PSP anymore.
As for PSP FPSs, I find them to be tolerable and very enjoyable. Medal of Honor Heroes was a blast to play and the Skirmish mode never seems to get boring. I have also played Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. It is a fairly fun FPS with average controls. However, the game makes up for it's shortcomings with a very large variety of weapons and the unique Tachicomas. These tanks follow you around, pack a hefty punch, follow your commands, are full of humor and you can even hop inside them to control them manually. Very fun.
if you want to see what FPS is like on psp GET SOME DEMOS. You can get several demos from the playstation store or psp democenter.com you know. I liked the Socom and Syphon Filter games, but not enough to buy them. i think the control schemes are usable, but only if you are playing against stupid AI or other players that have the same crappy controls.Talldude80
Oh yeah that's a pretty good idea. but hardly any psp games have demos anymore!
