im becoming more and more woried about the future of the first person shooter. I have played tonnes of demos of first person shooters and none of them compare to the glory that is Call of duty 4. take conflict denied ops, the graphics are poor compared to cod4 the gameplay is linear it has no comparison to cod4. and i think that all future fps will live in the shadow of that great game.MATSIMUS
Dude, this is just the beginning... better games will come. Yes, even better than CoD4, and you don't even have to wait that long because R2 is coming out this year ;)
1. COD4 i believe is far from the last great FPS.
2.There are still a few(aggitating) problems with the online that have yet to be fixed.
3.Honestly i wouldnt go as far as saying cod4 set the bar,but it is a GREAT FPS none the less.
4.Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 will both be great.
To answer your question: I doubt it. I really don't prefer to play first person shooters, but at the same time, I don't see developers easing up on making shooters either. To me it seems like a shooter comes out every other month, if not every month and when the same kind of game is being released like that it's hard to say they are all good. I believe that many gamers, that love shooters, have more than one FPS to select from. Which is why a whole lot of comparing and contrasting goes on whenever a new shooter comes out. For example: when COD4 came out, gamers, that prefer shooters, probably compared it to the previous shooter at the moment (Halo 3) and many agreed it was better. Turok came out a few weeks ago, gamers did same thing. Compared it to COD4, and some said it felt 'generic' and then there were some to say it was complete garbage.
Don't worry man, from my understanding there more shooters coming out in March. You have more games to pick from and you may like one enough as COD4 to buy (I can't think off the top of my head the names of some of the shooters coming out, but I'm sure some are relasing next month).

Well then I guess I'm a downer too.:PP08CNot to be a downer here but isn't the FPS genre a little worn out? I mean it's all turning into the same thing

i agree. i think its funny when people say this fps is better then that when in reality unless the game is broken there really isn't much difference between them. there was nothing new or really innovative about cod4, its pretty much the same game its been for the past couple of iterations.
i think if anything all will see is a change of local, i think they realised certain locations/settings have become stale, and cod4 showed if you package the same thing differently people will enjoy it more. im not saying thats bad or good, if your having fun thats all that matters.
