I'm going to get a PS3 120 GB at Best Buy when they have some in stock. Considering that I've gone through 4 Xbox 360s in 2 years, I'm a little ticked about the 360's reliability in the past. Is the PS3 considered reliable, and do you think extended warrarenties are a good investment? Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to playing some good PS3 exclusives soon.

As with any electronic device you are taking a chance(that's why it's smart to get the extended warranty...on SOME devices)"BUT" as far as the PS3 is concerned, it has a very low failure-rate.I'v had my 60g since the US launch and haven't had any issue with it.

Yes, definitely. The chance of getting the yellow light of death on the PS3 is much slighter than the chance of getting the red ring of death on the 360. I've had my ps3 for a little more then a year now and I've never had any problems with it on the technical aspect. It has always worked perfectly like a dream.

I cant speak on behalf of the slims reliability but the fat PS3 is a reliable beast. I had no crashes on the thing and I have owned it for round two years.

I had a 360 fro 8 months it got a failed HDD then RRoD. I E-bayed the refurbished one I got back. My Brother in law has gone through 5. Withh PS3 I have owned 4 for years, my nnephew Ben owns a 60gb PS3 since launch, and my brother in law John owns a 40gb. None have ever had any issues whatsoever.

PS3= nearly flawless

360 = lots of failures

I believe more than half of all people that come here and say their PS3s broke are lieing or did something they shouldn't have done with their PS3.

Very reliable. I have had my PS3 since May 2007 and I run it about 3-4hours a day. No problems. Even my 360 is from launch and it still runs great (WIERD!!!!)

it almost seems that way. just sometimes i wonder. everyone i know who owns a PS3 don't turn it on nearly as religiously as i do. so none of them experience any problems. *sorry just realized. i have two friends who put their PS3's on as much as i do. None of them have experienced problems.

It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more realiable. And to save you a few dollars. Get a 80GB. It does the same thing as the 120GB. You can get an 80GB and go to ebay and get a 250GB for $54 or maybe a little tiny bit more with free shipping on some of them.

My PS3 60gb model died on me the other month. I keep repairing it but it dies a week or 2 into use. So I just bought a slim from gamestop. Uses FAR less electricity, generates far less heat, and still feels extremely solid. I don't forsee the slim ps3's to have any overheat problems at all.

No problems at all. Having owned 3 different 360s, I had enough and bought a PS3... I haven't looked back. 10 times more reliable than the 360.

You won't have issues with PS3.

Since you don't have one yet PS3 Slim is a fantastic choice.

Happy Gaming. :D

And here is the fan of the original , just for comparison from :

http://content.techrepublic.com.com

Now think this monster fan on the last fat model (80GB) ...i think thats why the 80GB models have no problems (almost).

The cooling system is almost as wide as the motherboard assembly.

Sure there's a few PS3s that broke before, all electronics have a chance to break, but most PS3s are pretty reliable.

The system is reliable. I have had my 60 gig since December 27th 06 and it still runs just as good today. The games are awsome, the controller is awsome just take the plunge and do it.

You do know when I asked that rhetorical question it was meant to imply the fan appears very strong, and there by would prevent over heating.

Okay, picked one up today! Bought the replacement warranty to cover any problems I might have in the next two years. Picked up MGS 4 and I'm getting Drake's Fortune and the Blu-ray remote next. I like how quiet the unit is... Microsoft will learn a few things from Sony I believe.

I have had 2 PS3's in my house for a couple years now. (a launch 20G) and (an 80G wifi). One is my brothers. and the 20G is like 3 years old or more. Never had a problem with either one of them.

The PS3 is a really good machine but in all honesty they're not that much more reliable than the 360 is right now. Don't listen to these obvious 1 console owning bias haters in here, if their PS3's broke they wouldn't tell ya anyway! Go ahead & buy the PS3 you'll really enjoy it.

Just don't forget to take good care of it. Even the best equipment breaks if abused.
