Yup, I play it online on PS3. I never got the complaints from people on these forums about this game. I jump into games rather smoothly and have lots of fun.
There are always people on. You rarely get full 16-people games, but that's mostly due to peoples' impatience with waiting for the room to fill. If the host doesn't start a game within a couple minutes, everyone tries to kick them.
That said, I still love it, and it's the game I play online the most. I just wish it didn't take centuries to level up. I've had it since day 1 and am still a level 4.
Though then again, if you're level is too high, people try to get you kicked, too.
