Bladestorm

Folklore

The Eye of Judgement

Now, I don't want a heated discussion about how these franchises may or may not be bad, I want unbiased opinions from people who actually played these games.

The Eye of Judgment I was quite skeptical about being a ex-TCG player to tell you the truth. Before I got the game, I couldn't see the depth of a game where you only conquer 5 squares and get an automatic mana every turn. After checking out the cards though, and actually gaining my hands on decks... It's definitely alot deeper then I thought it would be. Also, once they come out with the expansions that strategic depth will only grow deeper. However, this game will only go as far as you're pocket can as the game tends to get stale (to me) when I only have like 45 different cards so my deck combination is limited. If you're willing to spend money into the cards, it is a great buy as the replay value lasts longer then any othe r game because it's limitless; although, even if you just want it for some gaming fun AND the Playstation Eye it's a steal too. I wanted it for both reasons. I wanted the Playstation Eye for video editting an external source that doesn't appear in the screen (like the hand movements for playing Skate or whatever to put in a PIP in the corner of my video), and I also wanetd it so I can use the features in games it coems with down the road (if any). If you don't have a microphone though, this is better then Warhawk in my opinion assuming your room is setup to be able to place a microphone on a flat surface near your head. I personally can't use it because I have no where to put the dang thing in my room... It's a pain to setup an EoJ game because there are really no flat surfaces big enough.

I personally own eye of judgement, it's such a fine game to play with my wife, and other friends who would otherwise never play games!

Now, if you just want to play a game by yourself, pick either folklore or bladestorm.

Between the two, if you enjoy RPG, buy folklore, it's a great game I'm going to buy it soon. I played both of its demos and found them to be accessible and interesting.

I also played bladestorm demo, and I like it. but I'm worried that the game can get super repetitive for the long run.

I haven't played the full version of bladestorm, but the Japanese demo of the game wasn't too great. It is published by Koei, it is essentially kind of like squad based dynasty warriors only you don't push any buttons really. you can choose to press square or triangle and that attacks with your character as well as your whole squad. It is kind of like a real time strategy rpg only with more of an action front. The only cool thing about the game is that you can choose what squads you want to command. There are people with lances, swords, crossbows, and horses. If you use one type of squad more than the other, then that will only bethe only type that gets stronger. Once you battle around enough a bar below your life willraise kind of like the musou bar from (you guessed it ) Dynasty Warriors. This makes your guys stronger and faster instead of doing a big combo. Themain problem with this game is that once you choose an attack, all you have to do from there is hold R2 and your character and squad will keep attacking over and over automatically.

Folkore kicks some pretty hefty butt and it's a shame that it sells and will continue to sell poorly. It's not a game withawsome graphics or voice acting through the roof.It is a bit of a dark fairytale. You have tofight using and collecting creatures known as folks. You colloct them by beating up folks and then sucking their soul out by using the Sixaxis function of the controller. The story has a good twists and a lotof netherworld politics. Most of the story is told bystill frames with character motions and text. At first this seems crappy because it's the PLAYSTATION3. However this style fits the tone of the game qute well. The annoying aspect of the game is that you have to play each level twice because there are 2 characters. Some of the way they use the folks are different. The games sidequest are kind of boring, but they do give the games side characters personality. Some folks you will hardly everuse however, it just depends on your style play. Granted some folks have to killed in a certain manner especially the bosses. Speaking of which, the boss fights are a little mechanical, but are all right in general. There is also a dungeon maker mode which is ok. You can't make it very deep, but it's kind of cool to fill it with different folks. The only catch is that you have to play other people's dungeon to earn points and earn the right to new folks to put in your dungeon. The main story takes about 15 to 16 hours not counting the side quests. There will also be downloadable content from the store at some point. You can access the option to go to the store in the game which is pretty cool. All in all I would say it is a medium buy. It's cool until white night story or some other big rpg comes out.
