The ps3 has a lot of potential and a lot of good exclsives that will seek to optimize its power. And while i wanna buy some of these games like LAIR MGS4 FF13 MGS4 and Ratchet, there are plenty of multiplatform games i want as well like GTA4 (duh). Yeah gta4 is on the 360  and all but my problem is tthat this game isnt being developed for my ps3 in mind its being built for the low end 360 without a harddrive. So i payed 600 bucks to play a game that is playable on a system half that but the ps3 will have better graphics.  That doesnt make sense to me . I blame sony for not keepinggames like these exclusive and more importantly microsoft for churning out such a low end system. While the360 version is gonna fit in 9 gigs my ps3 game has about 41 more gigs left untouched. With all that power and space this game could have half the counry to run around in. but no it will be the exact same game playble on the lowend 360 w/ the exception of differing DLC. Now im not saying i regret the ps3 its the most fun i have had with any system ever this early ( Resistance doesnt get enough creditboth the single player and online play are superb) but i cant help being screwed over when it comes to thes games.

 Thoughts?

I don't feel screwed over one bit. There is only one game that I want on 360 and that's R6 Vegas, which is coming out for PS3 in May. I don't care for Halo and I have no interest in Gears. That's the reason why I didn't get a 360, I have no interest in their games.

Yeah, I agree. The only thing that makes a ps3 version port better than the original 360 is that the data doesn't have to be compressed as much but thats it.

People doesn't understand this, but if you going to buy a multiplatform game, you should get it for the PS3. Why? Because you know you'll be able to play it on the PS4.

Arent these games going to have seperate content for each system?  Thats what I heard!  So why do you complain when GTA 4 will potentially have more to the game because R* has more space to build more things with Blu-Ray and the PS3!  Think about it, did you actually hear that that game was specifically being developed on the 360 and not the PS3.  Did you hear if it was being called a port for the PS3?  I havent.  Don't worry yourself, both games will probably be great.  And the potential for Blu-Ray to make its impact is also something you should keep an eye out for.

no its not a port and the specific conten is in downloadable form. The game is being built to fit on both systems so they have to make it fit both sytems and since they cant make the game specific for the systems with hardrives they have to cut corners which isnt fair to us ps3 owners.

My thoughts are this. You my friend do not understand the world evidently. What part of bussiness do you not understand? These people are in it for the money, remember the phrase money makes the world go round? Rockstar is making these games multiplatform for the sake of increased profit margin. Sony knows this and with the price of making games going up it is cost effective to go multiplatform. Sony knows that competition is hard on the pocket book and they have their own developers that they own to offset this, to keep their profits higher. After all it is not the hardware that makes money (it is a fact that manufacturers lose money on hardware, while the software developers make a killing). Do you see?

nott hte point dude. i payed 600 dollars for this console and i want the most out of it and other multiplatform games. i know there in this for money but i am going to give them my money if i think im getting a good deal for it. i know its not the 3rd parties arenot responsibel for the high price of the ps3 but these games could be truly great if optimized for the potential of the ps3, yeah it might take alot of cash to make thes games but not as much as it does to make a movie and game makers charge more than movie makers.

I have both systems, so I compare the versions of multi plat games and get the better one.  Last gen, I did the same thing.  Currently, multi plat games are running and looking a bit better on the X360, because it is a familiar format.

In his defense of Sony, Mr. Hastings from Insomniac pointed out that compression and streaming technology are about maximized in Gears of War.  IF this is true, than as games continue to grow, Game makers will have only two options, limit the size of a game and augment with downloadable content (in which case the PS3 with its large HDD and easily expanded HDD wins), or go multiple discs (again PS3 wins).   I personally would rather not have to change discs in the middle of a game.  No, it isn't a deal breaker (I enjoyed MGS and FF7), but if you have the option, its nice not to have to change the discs.

I do worry that multiplats will dumb down some games, but I must be honest, I have beeen very impressed with this generation so far, I feel it has gotten off to a much better start than last gen did.

Not really.

Most multiplatform developers usually cater towards the bare minimum anyways, so even if both consoles had standard hard drives and used high-def disk formats for games, they still probably wouldn't use those features.

There are some exceptions, like Criterion whoopenly states that it isn't going to half-ass the PS3 version like pretty much every other developer has done so far (OMG, its the apocalypse, a third party developer is actually admitting that the PS3 fanbase is comprised of real people!!@21!)

To be honest, as far as system features go, I'm more than satisfied with my $600 purchase.

As far as games go, there aren't a whole lot of games on the shelves that interest me, but then again, with my PS2 and PSP, I don't ever recall buying 4 games, all of which are worthy of a AAA score in my mind, before the system was half a year old.

how do you know that R* is making GTAIV with focus on the 360? i don't have an xbox1 but did the multiplats suck in it because they were also made for ps2,a clearly inferior console hardware wise? if GTAIV is not better in the ps3 it'll be at least as good as the 360 version

Seriously why the hell are you whining about something that hasnt even come out yet?  Your already comparing GTA4 on the ps3 and 360 when its not even out yet.  Did you ever think that maybe they might build it separately? did they say there using the 360 devs and just porting it over to the ps3? Wasnt most games on the ps2 like that anyways. matter of fact the xbox had more stuff and the graphics were a little better then the ps2. With that saying, dont you think they will do the same for the ps3 since 360 in your opinion is a lowely system?

These threads are making which should not even be brought up right now are not doing any could for ps3.  naive people read negative stuff like this and makes them think twice about buying one. And the thing is all this negative crap is false.  I dont know whos worse at making false crap the 360 fan boys or people with the ps3 who are afraid of the false negative crap. Think about it dude.

I only feel screwed over while the ps3 installbase is kinda low. If the installbase for the ps3 were like the wii or 360 is right now, I'm sure DMC4 woulda stayed exclusive. I feel kinda ripped off w/ games like DMC4 because instead of focusing all their efforts to utilize blu-ray and the ps3's vast capabilities, they settle for xbox360 specs to be easily portable.

multiplats are still great games to own but dont worry about multi plats too much, they are never going to showcase what the ps3 is fully capable of

new franchises and new IP's that probably will be announced at E3 will be the games that will bring the wow and really show off the machine and should be the games to be excited about

Lair is looking to be a nice look into what the ps3 is capable of. With the secrecy behind Killzone, I'm expecting it to be a huge showcase of the system. I'm also expecting alot of Ratchet & Clank. I think the game that'll really blow most people away when it comes out, will be God of War 3.

A better way to explain it in relation to the previous person's response is that Xbox1 and PS2 games were similar in that they used the same format; DVD5&DVD9. However, in the case of PS3 we're up to Bluray which holds up to 25GB single layer. Xbox 360 games are still limited to ~9GBs. Hence, whenever a game is multiplatform, the game must be focused for the 360 to fit within size limits therefore being a ripoff to the PS3 that could have had higher resolution movies, uncompressed sound, and overall more content.

Sure, if you don't mind the possibility of getting the red ring of death. Notice MS only extended the warranty. Didn't they extended the warranty twice now or was that once? oh, well, If you don't mind gambling on $300-400. Oh, you want a console that utilizes the full hardware potential? then you should have just stay with the old gen (original xbox, ps2, gamecube) The new consoles have a few more years in them, so you cannot expect the developer to use up all that potential in 0-18 years. Look how long the ps2 lasted and they are still releasing games for it. You are screwed either way if you bought a 360, wii, or ps3. If you want, you should wait till each console got 3-4 years into its life cycle before buying.

Trust me when I say this:

THERE WILL BE A PS4.

It might be a different appraoch to the brand name, should this system not sell as well as its predecessors, however, there will still be a PS4.

i agree, it makes me mad when exclusives are lost not because of any fanboy crap but because they wont take advantage of blu-ray or the ps3 itself, they'll just make it for 360 and port it over to ps3, the only game so far that i REALLY want that will do that and is exclusive is mgs4...that, lair, and god of war 3 are the only games im interested in that arent multi-platform, i was looking forward to devil may cry 4 but now they're just gonna pull another 360 port to ps3 kinda thing, and all these ports seem to be a lot worse then the original except for oblivion

well dude, you can stop blaming developers for wanting to go multiplatform. they need to make money, it's as simple as that. all the GTA's have gone multiplatform in the past - given it was a bit of a wait before and this time it's same date, but that's completely besides the point. GTA, no matter how you cut it, is a very expensive game. all of us probably laughed our asses off when we were running over pedestrians while listening to michael jackson in vice city, yet that likely cost R* an arm and a leg to purchase the rights to that song. so if you're even thinking about blaming them for making the game functional on both systems, you just made an idiot out of yourself. secondly, understand that developers are still learning how the PS3 works. this whole "the PS3 version will have 41 more gigs left untouched" is among the dumbest things i've read in awhile. the files won't be as compressed as they will on the 360's version, but that doesn't matter. the problem is you're not seeing a game available on the ps3 right now that can't run on the 360, and in many cases with the multiplats right now they run better on the 360. yes, it's true - "the low end 360" is proving to be an easy system to develop games for right now. i'm not making fun of sony's system for saying that either, that's the truth. what the PS3 needs are games like lair and heavenly sword to come out and show developers that the games they have envisioned are possible on the 360 and it can do things the 360 can't. believe me, this whole fanboy tech speech of cell processor this and blu-ray storage space that means nothing until people understand how to use them properly. if games begin coming out on this system that actually live up to the systems potential than you won't be feeling so screwed over. but it's not something that's going to happen overnight and you're going to have to be patient about it. i thought people were saying sony made this system for the long run, and if that's the case then calm down and give it some time.

hey man i asked someone this once and never got an answer so i'm going to ask you - why are people listing god of war 3 as games they are looking forward to? development probably hasn't begun, i've seen no trailer or picture of anything about it yet. and yes i've beaten GOW2 and i understand the potential of the next sequel - but you're saying you're only interested in 3 games right now and one of them is god of war 3, a game that likely won't see the light of day until... 2010????

We might have to wait 1 or 2 years to see a game that takes advantage of what the PS3 can really do.

I always wonder why don't they use two dvd's or three to reach the blue ray capacity. I know that it is not convenient but its better than losing its benefit.

[QUOTE="phantas777"]well dude, you can stop blaming developers for wanting to go multiplatform. they need to make money, it's as simple as that. all the GTA's have gone multiplatform in the past - given it was a bit of a wait before and this time it's same date, but that's completely besides the point. GTA, no matter how you cut it, is a very expensive game. all of us probably laughed our asses off when we were running over pedestrians while listening to michael jackson in vice city, yet that likely cost R* an arm and a leg to purchase the rights to that song. so if you're even thinking about blaming them for making the game functional on both systems, you just made an idiot out of yourself. secondly, understand that developers are still learning how the PS3 works. this whole "the PS3 version will have 41 more gigs left untouched" is among the dumbest things i've read in awhile. the files won't be as compressed as they will on the 360's version, but that doesn't matter. the problem is you're not seeing a game available on the ps3 right now that can't run on the 360, and in many cases with the multiplats right now they run better on the 360. yes, it's true - "the low end 360" is proving to be an easy system to develop games for right now. i'm not making fun of sony's system for saying that either, that's the truth. what the PS3 needs are games like lair and heavenly sword to come out and show developers that the games they have envisioned are possible on the 360 and it can do things the 360 can't. believe me, this whole fanboy tech speech of cell processor this and blu-ray storage space that means nothing until people understand how to use them properly. if games begin coming out on this system that actually live up to the systems potential than you won't be feeling so screwed over. but it's not something that's going to happen overnight and you're going to have to be patient about it. i thought people were saying sony made this system for the long run, and if that's the case then calm down and give it some time.

i agree with that but why dont developers stop being lazy and learn the ps3 so they can make better games, i'd rather wait for a gta4 game that uses all of ps3's potential, then just get a port from 360...granted im sure the game will be extremely good whether its a port or not from 360 because rockstar usually doesnt half-ass anything, but it seems like developers are afraid of ps3 or something, or are they just waiting until this year finishes to start working specifically for ps3 or what?
[QUOTE="shadyd1717"]i agree, it makes me mad when exclusives are lost not because of any fanboy crap but because they wont take advantage of blu-ray or the ps3 itself, they'll just make it for 360 and port it over to ps3, the only game so far that i REALLY want that will do that and is exclusive is mgs4...that, lair, and god of war 3 are the only games im interested in that arent multi-platform, i was looking forward to devil may cry 4 but now they're just gonna pull another 360 port to ps3 kinda thing, and all these ports seem to be a lot worse then the original except for oblivionphantas777
hey man i asked someone this once and never got an answer so i'm going to ask you - why are people listing god of war 3 as games they are looking forward to? development probably hasn't begun, i've seen no trailer or picture of anything about it yet. and yes i've beaten GOW2 and i understand the potential of the next sequel - but you're saying you're only interested in 3 games right now and one of them is god of war 3, a game that likely won't see the light of day until... 2010????

im not sure when its coming out or anything, i havent seen anything about it at all, but im only assuming it'll come out and im looking forward to it so i just mention it, even though like you said it probably wont be for a very long time

360 isnt necessarily low end. The hardware is close enough that I think the Multiplatform 9and even teh Exclusives will look just as good as the games on the other syestem. Both consoles are powerful beasts
