[QUOTE="Batang_X990"]just like every console gen, i don't buy launch consoles. i think it's a safe bet that we will see a ps4 announcement by 2013, and see the new console between 2013-2015. so, a good 3-4 years before next gen. not bad.Flame_Blade88Well Sony stated many many times that PS3 is "future-proof" and will be the mainstream Sony platform for at least 10 years. So going by Sony's statements I wouldn't expect PS4 until 2016 at the earliest.
I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Just because they stated it will have a lifespan of 10 years doesn'tmean that they won't announce the PS4 until 2016. They will do what the did with the PS2 - still support it, but the PS3 became the main focus. Same will happenthe PS4 and PS3.
Also, 2016 would be way too late if Sony plans on staying in the console market. By then both Nintendo and Microsoft will have their next consoles out.

Well that's what they meant by "future-proof" that the PS3 could still compete with the next gen systems of their competitors. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, just going by what they said, I wasn't trying to start anything or prove anyone wrong. Sorry if I pushed the wrong buttons.[QUOTE="Batang_X990"]just like every console gen, i don't buy launch consoles. i think it's a safe bet that we will see a ps4 announcement by 2013, and see the new console between 2013-2015. so, a good 3-4 years before next gen. not bad.Flame_Blade88Well Sony stated many many times that PS3 is "future-proof" and will be the mainstream Sony platform for at least 10 years. they said the same exact thing for the ps1 and ps2.
the 10 year life span has to do with hardware, not software. in fact, we should have ps4 by now
but with the economy and all the world tradegies, it's not really a surprise that we still don't see them.
they'll keep making ps3's till 2016. if demand is high by 2016, they'll extend it just like the ps2.
as for software(ie games), they'll stop releasing major AAA for ps3 once ps4 is out,
but they're still going to keep making ps3s until demands for it ceases.

Nah it's fine I know you from around here and I know you're not that kind of guy, just glad we're on the same page lol :Pheh...I don't trust Sony when they say that they are not releasing PS4 anytime soon. They lie a lot, like the time when they say there is no PS3 slim planned nor a PS3 price drop a few months before they released a PS3 slim and announced a price drop. They say there is no PS4 planned, but I'm pretty sure once the competition announce their next gen consoles they are going to want to start developing PS4 too, because the competition can release even more powerful hardware than the PS3, because then the PS3 would get outdated pretty fast...
I'm glad video game systems don't come out like i-pads or i-phones (seems we have a new version of those every month) so I'm going to say that I am quite content with the PS3 yet Ioften imaginethe possibilities of the next Playstation system and I can't wait to see what it can do and what the games will be like.
i just got a new ps3(although i own fat model for 2 years and its going strong but i always wanted a slim ps so ...) so i am good till 2015I am still contented with the graphics of the ps3, how about you playstation fans out there?

You expect a launch PS3 to last that long?Nahh it still feels way to soon for me even though I bought my PS3 at launch. I'll be good for at least another 5 years to tell you the trut..
Have some mercy on my wallet :P

I'm ready since about 2 years xD It's just sad that no console can make use of my 1080p 3D Tv for games :S
I have no desire for the next generation of consoles yet. Maybe in a few years. I'm still enjoying my PS3 immensly. hrt_rulz01Well you could still play on your PS3 whiles others enjoyed the new batch of consoles. :P
Hell yes.. All the greatest games are still coming out in the next 2 years.. PS3 has at least 4 years left in it!I'm not even close to ready for the PS4. Long live the PS3.

Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo. Those two companies are in the very early stages of developing their successor consoles.
The Playstation 4 is a long ways off. Sony doesn't have to worry about rushing out the PS4. As the PS3 is still going strong since it is more powerful the either the Xbox 360 or the Wii. The PS3 will easily outlast the others in the 7th Generation and continue to have great games during it's 10 year lifespan. Just like the PS1 and PS2 before it.
The PS3 is the best console this generation. The PS3 is just fine, Sony may be thinking about the 8th generation. I would welcome the PS4 But I don't think that I have to say buy to PS3 just yet.....
PS4 will trump whatever Microsoft and Nintendo come up with. But When Sony is ready for the Playstation 4.
Sony is Focused on the NGP (Which has a chance to knock Nintendo off the Handheld Crown)

You're kidding yourself if you actually think Sony haven't already drawn up the plans for their next console, they would of done this a while ago. There's nothing stopping the PS3 and the PS4 from selling side by side just as the PS2 and the PS3.Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo. I am still perfectly content with my PS3 and don't really care about graphics getting better. It's all about the software to me.
