Do you only buy games you're absolutely, 100% sure to like, or do you purchase anything you 'think' will interest you? I'm not sure I'm making myself very clear... I purchased a lot of games on my PS3, and I kind of regret it now. That's why I traded most of them in and created a new PSN account, with only my absolute favorite, triple A games: GTA IV, Killzone 2, Red Dead Redemption, LittleBigPlanet and Modern Warfare 2.

I research, but if a game interests me I'm going to buy it regardless of review scores. If I want the game, but it received bad scores then I'll most likely wait for a price drop before getting it. That's what I'm doing for Alpha Protocol.

I am I don't care how much u have $60 for a game is a lot and I want to only buy games that are worth it. I have a 62 Gamestop card that I have had for 2 months because there is nothing out there worth it. God3 is not worth the 45 I'll beat it in a week then I out 45 on a single playthrough game.

To be honest: no. I tend to have more money than time and I don't trust reviews anyway. I might look up some gameplay video before buying a game, but if it's a JRPG, a Hack n' Slay or any sequel to a game I enjoyed, I pre-order them right away ^^

I look at everything (gameplay, story, graphics, replay value, etc.) and check reviews to see flaws and such, and user reviews, watch trailers, and if I like it, I will. But I always know what I like, No matter what it is, a movie, an anime, a show, a game, whenever I see a piece of it (trailer, etc.) I just feel a connection, I KNOW that I will like it. It's always worked out for me, Death Note, I felt it, it worked, AC2, I felt it, it worked, LBP, Bleach, Heavy Rain, MGS4, Full Metal Alchemist, Titanic, Never Back Down, Inception, and so on.

If it looks good I buy it, but if I want to listen to someone else's opinion I find a dedicated forum to see what they think instead of some reviewer.

Honestly, I pretty much buy anything that interests me at all, though I do take reviews and watching gameplay footage into account before deciding to buy. I try not to buy new very often, excepting sports games.

I should be more discriminating... my collection is unreasonably huge, and there's zero chance I'll ever get around to playing all of the 300+ games I own.

Very careful. I make sure that every game is not only good, but worth my money. I tend to by a lot of RPGs (Demons Souls, TESIV, Dragon Age, Fallout 3) because of this, although shooters (Resistance, RSV2, soon to be COD:BO and maybe Killzone 3) and other games (LBP) that have a lot of value I'll pick up.

I mostly look into games before I end up buying them. Sometimes I come across really cheap ones and will get those though. Recently I bought F.E.A.R. 2 and Bionic Commando for $8 each and luckily I'm happy with both!

Research what I don't know and buy what I do know. If there's a demo, all the better. That's like $60 ~ $70 before taxes. I can't afford to wastefully spend on something I'm not 100% on. That's what I wait on price drops for. The rest of the "potentials". Used on a price drop or sale.

I wanted Just Cause 2 and only got that because it was on sale for $40 at Walmart. Very glad for it though.

But yeah, full price only for 100%. So far, my only full priced PS3 game this year is Fallout New Vegas on a pre-order (loved Fallout 3 and looks good to me)

If I'm getting a game day 1 it's usually going to be a major release, I'll usually pre-order it, and there will usually be a $10 or $20 pre-order bonus involved so I'm not really paying full price. I don't think I've ever taken a "chance" on a game on day 1. So far this year I pre-ordered Bad Company 2, God of War III, NCAA 11, Red Dead Redemption, Super Street Fighter IV with Gran Turismo 5 still pending.

Then I'll sometimes buy a "newish" game that's getting great reviews, and has word of mouth. But I will usually wait until the price comes down a little. Sometimes for a period of months, sometimes I'll watch a game for a year or more just to wait for the price to drop (Example: just got Demon's Souls for $29.99). Out of principal I just hate paying $59.99 when a game has been out months, that game stayed at full price for the longest time.

Finally I will take chance on bargain bin games or games I see on sale. For $20 I'll still check reviews a little to make sure it's not total crap. My last game like this was Blur for $19.99, I knew it was decent so for $19.99 I went for it. Hell half my PS3 games I probably paid less than $20. For $9.99 I'll take more chances without really looking at reviews, but it's hard to find decent games this cheap (Bionic Commando, Mirror's Edge, Hot Shots Golf are the only PS3 games I can think of that I paid

it mind sound stupid but with so many great games coming out and that have come outalready i really make sure i will like the game. i mean, i got motorstorm with the console (along with resistance 2) and that got an 7.9, i also got ashes cricket 09 caus its my favourite sport, but apart from that i haven't got a game under 8.5. now i know you's will say you shouldnt let a review score determine what you get or not but seriously, games cost quite a bit of money and i only get so many in a certain perioud of time that it would make sense to realise theres an obvious difference in quality between a 9.0-9.5 game compared to a 7.5-8.0 game.

now im sure i would probably enjoy a 8.0 game or lower slightly but every game in my collection so far i really enjoy a lot.

I usually look at gameplay videos and play the demo before I make my decision. You seem not so confident in your purchases... do yourself a favor a play a demo first or rent them.

To me, buying a game is like buying anything else, especially something that is expensive. You basically could have changed the title to, "Are you careful about spending your money?" Because that's what the topic translates to in my mind. I do heavy research. I read and watch reviews, previews, screenshots, gameplay videos, user scores, critic scores... low and high score reviews, and I'll go at it for a day before i decide. That's usually what I do with games that I'm not sure about. But for franchises like Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted, Mass Effect, and the like.. it's really a no-brainer. I know that these developers have proven themselves over and over and I can trust them with my money that I will be highly entertained.

If I like the developer or if the publisher is known to do a great job localizing it then I will almost 100% buy it as soon as it comes out.

EB GAMES has a '7 Day Game Trial', so I can buy any game which seems fun and if it isn't, I can simply return it. I buy all kind of games, just in case I miss something good.

If a game is really really cheap, my standards drop pretty low. As long as it looks like it might be interesting, that's worth $15 - $20. If you're talking a full $60 game, then I do a lot of research and it better be something I'm sure to love.

I only buy games that are both highly rated (usually meta score of 90+) and used/on sale (usually under $10 or maaayybe $20). Other than those two conditions i'm not all that carefull. I NEVER buy games new anymore, and probably won't until diablo 3 comes out.

At the beginning of console I was used to buy games without checking too much the rate of this one. But now with the PlayStation 3 and the Blue-Ray games can reach 90$ (I am French so I converted from the euro to the dollars). I bought a bad game ( I can't even remember the name) and sold it after 3 days... Now I buy only game that I am sure than I'm gonna play or I download the demo before.

I have bought like 100 plus games in the last 2 years and the backlog is just too huge. With the way game prices are falling and with so much uncertainity in the job market I'm taking the approach of just waiting for games to fall to a price I deem worth purchasing. Normally $20 and under for most games. I guess a few games around $30 I might buy. The only games I will buy new now are game titles I really love like UC2, RDR or HR. I really wanted to play those games but still made sure I didn't pay a lot for them when they came out. I bought them for $45 brand new.

I'm very careful. I do a lot of research. I don't necessarily need to play the game beforehand. So reviews, trailers, user reviews, forum reviews, written/video reviews, gameplay videos, knowledge on content, whatever information is available I'll look it up. If it interests me I'll make the purchase.

I refuse to buy any game for $59.99. That is simply too much for my liking. I have typical game genres that I like, then I look at critics reviews, then user reviews and when the price comes back down to $40 or less (whether on retail sale or ebay), I will buy it then. It's good to wait a few months after a game's release so price goes down.

Of course I do, games where I live cost a lot. I read and watch reviews, players comments, gameplay videos, etc. Also i need to be sure because I cannot buy a game every week, at best one per month. That's why I don't regret my choices :)

Yes, very careful now. I only own Demon's Souls, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and Dead Space. Kane and Lynch 2 will come home if there isn't any screen tearing and the overall reviews are positive. I have been doing a lot of research on it and it seems as if the developers put a lot of love into rectifying the problems that plagued the first game.

Hmm, almost always wait for a review. I've noticed the video game industry often likes to hype games that turn out to be very bad, so going off hype alone can turn badly. A very select few games I know will be awesome i might pre-order, like God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption.

I rarely buy games anymore. Mostly I just rent them. If I like the game well enough and think it's one I play again then I might buy it. And very few games to I buy without playing beforehand. God of War III was one exception, but I'm a huge GoW fan.

I think it's pretty safe to say I know what kind of games I like and will buy without having to check for reviews.
