Hi, I have been considering for a while to buy a PS3. Recently, my friend told me that he would sell me his for $200. I would have jumped at that offer before, but the only thing holding me back is that it is a 40 GB. I still have some PS2 games I want to play and was going to buy a used 20 GB from gamestop or something.

So the question is, are you guys still playing (or wish you could play) PS2 games on your PS3, or do you think that backwards compatibility isn't really necessary in this new generation? I know $200 is a good deal, but I just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks a lot. :)

It just depends on the person, I guess. Personally, I'm not bothered at all because I don't own any PS2 games anymore and I'm not sure I'd play them if I did, except maybe a couple.

Jump at that deal, $200 for PS3 (and from a friend you trust) is a great deal.

I have a 40gb, but I also kept my PS2 so it isnt really an issue. Go buy a used PS2 for like $40 if its such a big deal

It is a bit annoying having to keep setting the PS2 up just to play some old games, but it's not a huge issue, would of much prefered to have b/c though.

I'd much rather pay for a new PS2 instead of playing on PS3. I don't know why. Even if I had a 60 gig I'd still rather buy a new PS2. But I'm not mad that I bought a 40 gig. I do wish I had a 80 or 60 gig instead cuz it has a lot of things that the 40 gig doesn't but at the end of the day, I'm playing PS3 games the way they were intended to be played so I'm not losing sleep.

Why do you have to keep setting up the PS2? There are all sorts of ways to have multiple consoles hooked up to a single display these days.

I don't see the lack of B/C as a drawback, so just keep your PS2. I have a couple of PS2 games that I play on my 60 GB PS3, but not too often. I don't think I would miss B/C if I didn't have it.

If you still have PS2 games then you should still have your PS2 so I see no problem with the 40GB.

I didnt really think i need b/c until MGS4 was a week away from release, i got MGS3 from one of my friends and then i remembered that the 40 GB PS3 does'nt have b/c.
