You know how the ps3 is getting close to the way computers are eg a processing chip devoted to the HDD, arent sony worried that virus' will eventually hit ps3's bad? I spoze if that ever happens theyll deal with it but have they ever said that they have security in place for this?

Sorry if its a really stupid question it just makes you wonder how consoles will go in the future as they become like computers and have internet ect.

I don't think so. For someone to specifically develop a virus for the PS3 OS would take along time (like you said, getting through the security is a huge undertaking) and in the end the virus wouldn't reach that many people.

You would have to have a PS3 dev kit most likely because you would have to have source codes and secerity access, unlike the open source of a PC.

It doesn't seem to be worth the effort. If anything, hackers would probably try to pirate games before they think about creating viruses.

I can see both micro and sony doing this. Not too sure about nintendo. But im sure the closer they get, there will be things setup to deal with such problems Maybe we will see a firewall on the ps4 or something.

The PS3 has the antivirus, or whatever, its a 90-day trial.

The Trend Micro protection for PS3, don't ask me what it does, as I have no clue and very very rarely use the PS3 browser (about once a year), so you can say Sony are aware of virus' infecting the PS3.

I've never had any kind of problem with my Playstation 3. The firmware the Playstation uses, XMB, is relatively secure. It's not an Open Source model so I don't think anyone would be able to easily decompile it.

If hackers ever did find a way to execute their own code on a PS3, like a virus, I think they'd be more interested in trying to figure out how to do a particular something else that would be more beneficial to them.

That wont happen anytime soon, has anyone seen the price on blue-ray burners + Discs... Smart move from sony, unless someone can do some kind of custom firmware to trick the ps3 into a HD DVD player.

That would be server side with Sony and unless you can break into that, I wouldn't be too worried. Even so, that wouldn't mean a virus can be implanted either.

The dev kit seems very "closed" to the public. They have taken advantage of that with "dynamic themes" only to be created by their SDK so they could charge a price for them. I highly doubt anybody's going to get their hands on it anytime soon.

As far as 360 goes. 360 is kind of built more like a "PC in a box" so I could see why it would be easier. Not to mention, hackers seem to have more incentive to attack Microsoft in a sense. Not only for their own reasons, but because it's a very weak fence full of holes with almost everything they make.
